Yes that is true since most of the time I am experiencing these kind of errors when some people do translate some words since sometimes they have different interpretation which make it sometimes confusing on the part of the listener but I agree that nobody is really perfect and these kind of errors are rampant nowadays.

I do understand what you are saying. Some Chinese words have no exact English translation and this presents a big problem for translators because they have to use a descriptive sentence and that is time consuming.

Yes, not all tools are good at translating. In fact, I doubt if tools can translate 100% without errors. The problem is translating and you are not well-versed with the language you want to translate.

Yes that is really true because Chinese language are one of the hardest language to translate into English because of its complexity in its words. We should have a vast and deeper knowledge in Chinese language in order for us to have a precise and great translation.

I think those people that are able to translate Chinese language in to English are really a skilled and talented persons because they manage to do that very well. I agree that it really takes a lot of time to master the translation of Chinese language since not all have the patience to continue learning for that language since it is a very tough for me.

Yes that is right, I am trying my best sometimes to visit YouTube during my spare time and watch some video tutorials regarding Chines translation into English because I want to personally witness on the process of translating them. I find it really difficult since Chinese language are very weird for me and I cannot really understand it.

In my own opinion, translations in Chinese to English or vice versa will not be accurate especially if it's auto-translation. There are words in Chinese that has no direct translation in English and same as with English to Chinese. It is always better if a person who's knowledgeable with both languages to do the translation than let the comptuter-generated translator ruin the whole text.

Yeah, the person should have the ability to be able to speak that language to a particular extent in order to be able to do the translation. It is all about getting to understand what you are translating and it is always difficult when you are using auto translation.

Its just like a day I used Chrome translator to translate a website, I still couldn't understand a think there because the entire word was not translated so they was still some Chinese left there.

I'm not in the translation field, however I think the main concern would be if you translate correctly. When you are can translating in a language that is your second language your bound bomb to get the translation wrong. That's because you think in your first language. So a mis-translation is going to happen. I'm not aware of any Chinese specific translation problems.

If you will only be using a tool such as auto translate, you will surely have some words translated wrong. I think it is not only Chinese to English traslation that can encounter this but even other languages. This is because there are words that are the same but means different depending on how you pronounce or use them in a sentence. If you really need an accurate translation, it is advisable that you use an actual person who can speak both language.

Auto translate can be helpful in some cases, but I do think when it comes to overall accuracy it’s not the best for that. It also completely gets rid of the human factor which I think you need in order to be able to interpret emotions and feelings, not just simple words.

Auto correction does not work sometimes in some site and you will have to wait or reload the page for more than five minutes before it can translate something that someone won't understand.

Google Translate is a great tool for translating between languages but it's not 100% reliable, not even when translating between languages that are both based on the Roman alphabet. I have used Google Translate for various tasks that required me to identify the language and judge the relevance of a web page to a topic. I was impressed because it was able to detect the language and provide a decent translation of the web pages to English.

Of course, I didn't expect the results to be perfect and there were sections where I have to read between the lines to get the real meaning but it was good enough. And yes, it can identify and translate languages like Chinese (simplified and traditional), Arabic, Persian, Japanese, Korean, and other character-based languages. Many users will probably find the translation work satisfactory but if you need a more precise result, you may have to hire a human translator.

I think translating is hard because often you're not dealing with a direct "one-for-one" when it comes to words. In some languages there simply isn't the right direct translation, so often you're doing more than just translating words -- but translating emotions and intents. I think being a translator is a really tough job, because you've got to be emotionally savvy as well as academically intelligent!

The objective of translation is to give the reader a clear understanding of something written or spoken in a foreign language. I'd say the translator should focus on the thought of the sentence in translating and not on the words and phrases only. Would you believe that the Chinese car named Chery was supposed to be Cheery? But the word was changed in the wrong translation that obviously the Chinese do not know enough English.

I actually teach English to Chinese students and the two languages have a lot in common than I thought. Most idiomatic expressions have a direct Chinese translation, but, yes, there are still some that fall through the cracks and down into the category of "very hard to translate" But these are the more commonly used words in today's daily English conversation. But in terms of translating general English, Google translate could do the trick, just use simplified Chinese. But it's only effective with single sentence or statements, not so much with whole paragraphs and articles.

To be a very good translator, I’d advise that live among those chinese cultures, watch their tv and emerge as one with their way of seeing the sector. Your translations will consequently maintain real to the unique intentions of the author. You might even come up with a more effective translation that is better than the language you're translating from.

I watched a lot of foreign movies and most of the time there is a subtitle that I need to read. The main concern of me when people are translating, it should be the context or what they are trying to say. There is no perfect translation especially if there is like a spice of culture hidden on the sentences that you can't really translate. It's like translating a meme for your parents that don't understand the meme. However, you can put some notes that will try to explain the translation much better.

I agree. I have a hard time understanding some of the subtitles when watching foreign movies, too. They translate it literally that the meaning gets lost in translation. I sometimes search for the movie in You Tube to fully understand what was said.

As with any language, the main concern should be to preserve as much of the original meaning as possible. This is challenging as some words cannot be directly translated into another language, in which the skill of the translator comes into play. The translation is therefore best done by someone fluent in both languages, and not just any app or software.

I think that’s why sometimes when I use google translate, things just don’t always make sense. I don’t think we are at a point yet where we can substitute machine translation for human translation, since it’s not just words but feelings being translated.

I agree with you. It really annoys me that Google translate is the only option that I know when I want to translate the meaning of a foreign text in English, because it sometimes doesn't help you understand what you are reading. But, I'm still thankful that Google translate exists.

Assuming that what you want translated is for readers who don't understand a language that a writer has used, only opt for machine translation if you have nothing to lose.

What you'll have translated as it has already been mentioned, won't be 100% accurate. In fact it won't even come close. Too much of what you want to convey will be lost which is why it is advisable to hire someone to do the translation. Or if you can speak both languages fluently, get the job done yourself.

How about using the machine translator for the draft and then you review the translated manuscript for enhancement. I think that is an easier task compared to the full translation that you had to start from scratch. That machine translator is very helpful for long translation jobs like a book or a procedures manual. All you would need after the machine had done its work is to run the grammar checker before validating the sentences vis-a-vis the words and phrases.

I suppose this could help a little. At least you'd have all the words translated right there but you'd need to ascertain that the information being conveyed and the meanings of words are retained as they are in the original post. There is much that will be lost in (literal) translation if a lot of figurative language is used by the writer (which is exactly what readers will be getting if you rely entirely on automated translation).

Translating from one language to another is not a walk in the park. There's a lot of things to be considered to have an accurate translation. Deep knowledge and understanding on both languages are needed as well as the skills and mastery of the translators. If you really want to have a more accurate translations, you must know that you have to pay the price.

Translators have to be careful not only the meaning, but also the flow and the plot of the overall story and message. The quality of the translation in the end depends very much on the purpose and message of the original article remain intact in the translated piece.

Translation job is not a very easy job. It needs a lot of patience and effort to translate precisely from one language to other. The translator needs to apply his mind when translating between two languages. Sometimes some words and sentences, when translated from one language to another, have a completely different meaning from the original content. The translator has to then translate these words or sentences in his own words in order to explain the original content.

I know a lady who worked as a translator for several years and she said it was one of the most exhausting jobs she held - and she’s worked in a number of high stress positions. I can only imagine that having to think in multiple languages certainly becomes draining after a while!

I think almost all language when you are translating it to English is not accurate as what we expected. There are slangs words each language that not in English language. It is very hard. The only thing is that we need to see the get the meaning of the whole words so that we could understand it.

1.The time you'll spend in translating should be proportionate to the pay your getting.

Most newbies accepts a translation job thinking that it's easy and can be done quickly. Well I'm here to say that it ain't the case. When translating, sometimes you'll encounter words which doesn't have any equivalent and this would take a long time.

Obviously, the main concern is that the real meaning of what is being said gets lost on translation. However, since I don't speak Chinese, I can't really say what the problems are when translating from Chinese to English. But you asked about a “tool” and I can say that I have used the Google translator tool for Asian languages and I have not noticed that the content was mistranslated. But how would I know? (O.o) The words I read which were written in English sounded reasonable and weren't confusing. If you are going to manually translate for a person and you have a command of both Chinese and English, then perhaps you should input text into a translator tool and then point out mistakes, if any, in the translation.

The main concern when translating Chinese into English is the manner of which it was spoken or written. Chinese characters in comparison to English Alphabet, have thousands of characters. Each of these characters corresponds to different meanings of course. But there are plenty of these characters that means the same word BUT they differ in the way they were expressed. This means that a same word, say, "Father", may have different Chinese characters when expressed happily or sad.

Probably, the grammar and how the delivery of the sentence. I can't explain ir properly, but what I meant to say is that the politeness, the level of anger, or the state of emotion may change after the translation. We should be cautious of it other than the grammar when translating between two languages.

I believe that in translating from Chinese to English, the translator should focus on the thought and not per words. When I watch a Chinese drama, I notice that they translate the dialog word per word which can be confusing. I believe that not all Chinese words have equivalent words in English.

Well for one thing, I don’t know jack about translating Chinese to English so I don’t think I’ll be able to help much in that territory. What I do know is that, for the love of God, do notdepend on Google translate or just programs in general for your translations. They’re not going to process the characters in the same way that a human being would.

I know this because I experienced the differences while I was learning Japanese. I was learning Hiragana and the phrases you make using Hiragana characters do not translate well at all in Google translate. I assume Chinese would be similar since it’s a similar writing system.

To have a better translation from Chinese to English. A translator should be fluent in both languages. He has to be a certified translator or got some certification. Having a lot of experiences related to this job is also a big advantage. Translating may be hard since some Chinese words cannot be translated into English. And this is something that a translator should focus on to provide a clear understanding of the lines or sentences to the readers or viewers.

There's no accurate tool for translation. Specially Google Translate which always gets the words wrong. All the other translation sites and apps also have a lot of flaws. The best way is to translate word for word then sentence by sentence to get at least 90? correct.

Hello!

My main concern about translating is not always the grammar, but rather correctly delivering the message when you translate something more literal, like idioms for example.
As you know, if you translate a saying in one language into another then it might seem as total gibberish.

The main concern is understanding. The reader who is reading it in their own language once translated should be able to understand what has been translated. You must have the accuracy and well known balance of realizing if what you, as the translator, translated into the language of your audience if they will be able to understand or not.
