Do you ing it or think about inging?

Words ending in "ing" can be overused in a book or article. However, it is not as simple as deleting every "ing" word,  I found this helpful blog to explain. It gives some good advice.

I agree with you that it can be overused at times. However, we really can't help but use it many times. Thank you for this, I'll check it out.

I found this article useful because it is more about when to use it or when not to.

There is a lot of good advice in that article.

Present progressive when overused gives the impression of repetition which will not impress many readers. If one must use such words they should be used sparingly. For those who overuse them or regularly use them, start cutting them out and you'll notice how much crisper your writing will be.

Earlier today I was edinting someone who was "inging" all over the place. I wanted to scream "get the ing out of it!" Not sure they wanted to listen though.

For people who use english as their second language, it's not easy for them to become so proficient in this subject. It will took a lot of time for us to be that good in this language. However, through continous study we can become fluent. Thanks for sharing this article. It can help us improve our knowledge as well as our writing skills.

Words that end in 'ing'. Go through your manuscript and get rid of as many of those words as possible. He was climbing. They are running. All telling. Of course there are plenty of ing words which can be appropriate like wedding, boating, and so forth. You can’t wipe ing out completely.

When it comes to words that are ending with 'ing', we should always look at the way that we are going to get rid of them at the end of the day. When it is too much, it is not okay for sentences that we make use of.

There are many words that sometimes we overuse. For me the following are my overused words - sometimes, normally, usually and so many others. But it is not a good idea to revise your blog just to replace those overused words. When you write a blog, I'm sure you have reviewed it and you think it looks good when you published it. After reading an article about overused words, why do you have to revise your old blog when it is doing just fine?

I'm not sure that I agree. I don't think that there is any possible way you can avoid using these words and I don't think that you should avoid using them if they give meaning to what you are trying to say. I think their use is wrong only if you use them in an inappropriate place or if you place( inging) in a place that it is not meant to be. They are people whose local language influences them using (inging) in inappropriate places.

To an extent, you made an excellent point. One thing that I have noticed with making use of those words is that you may not really get to avoid them when the need for them are in the content that you are writing.

The point of the article is that it enables you to know when the ending is appropriate. There are some good examples in it to help you.

This will take a lot of practice. Even an experienced writer would find it difficult since these sentences still seem grammatically correct. I think this is why it is still better to have a trusted reader other than your editors. Nevertheless, if put to practice, this will help writers make subtle but effective changes in their writing style.

In my opinion, the present participle suffix "ing" can be used asany times as possible. The important thing is that it should be use the right way.

I completely agree with you on this about just making sure to use the word "ing" in the right manner. Even if it's used repeatedly, but as long as it's still made a good sense and doesn't mess up the writing, personally I don't see anything wrong with it.

I went through the article that you have mentioned in this post and I agree with it completely. I have read people using the ing word very frequently without even realizing it. I don't think that this is a very common mistake done by all, but some of us do tend to overuse the" ing "words. I think that excessive use of any repetitive words can have an effect on the overall reading experience and should definitely be avoided.

I don't think including too many words that end in 'ing' is a problem in any written document. Anyone who thinks to might be overthinkING things a bit.

Haha, no pun intended right? I don't think there's anything wrong with using too much 'ing' in constructing sentences, what matters is the message it conveys and if it suits its usage.

Yes, even me tend to use ing on every article that I am doing, because I feel like it's easier to do it than with none.

You know, even as a native English speaker I'm sure that I've done this a million times. I think that's one of the things I enjoy about writing though - there's always room for continuous improvement and opportunities to learn. That piece was an interesting read.

@amelia88 I know I sure have. Although probably not as much as most people because I'm the type of writer who hates using the same word, or similar words in the same paragraph twice.

I thought so too. It is nice to know I am not the only native English speaker on the board. I can spend hours trying to improve on my chosen craft. In that way, the Internet is helpful as there is so much to investigate.

I feel like I make that mistake a lot too! I try and read over my work before I submit things to try and ensure I haven't used words over and over again...but sometimes old habits die hard!

Personally, I don't really bother about how many words that are repeated in my article but all I look out for is to make sure that my articles are very easy to read and understand by those that picked interest in whatever I have written.

I think I'm guilty about this. I will definitely check this out. It's hard to get rid of it though. This will take my time on writing instead of doing what I use to do. I believe I won't be able to do this in an instant but I always have a room for improvement. Thank you for sharing.
