How effective are titles?

Hello,

I have been writing for quite a while now, but newly introduced in the forum world, I used to write journals and articles for various company regarding their products and services.

During my days as a marketing agent, I’ve learned a few things, firstly, is it good to assume, that customers are always right, even if they’re wrong and secondly, customers they don’t know what they want, what they’re looking for.

Same with readers, as a reader's point of view, I don’t what to read, don’t what I’m looking for, maybe something interesting, in such situations titles does play a major role.

When a reader is browsing for a content to read, a title should immediately catch his or her attention, tittles should be kept as short as possible, the mystery hidden behind the short titles is that it excites the readers to read more about it, it should be very simple and interesting. For example: “Day With A Pornstar”, such titles guaranteed to have a lot of visitors, cause the readers are excited to know more, like who was the pornstar and what happened behind the doors etc. Versus the title “Syria bombing” I don’t think, there would be too many readers, reasons why, because it’s too complicated, it’s violent and it’s related to government, people are helpless and they’re dying, So,it won’t excite a reader also because its very a serious topic.

Or Interesting titles that can give readers a glimpse into the story is “lifestyle of Robert Jr dowry”. As a celebrity he has millions of followers, who may be interested to know more about their favorite actor.

Also the image or the thumbnail, can earn a lot of clicks.

What do you guys think?

Titles? Well, only the most important part of any web based content!
Seriously you really need to consider optimizing your titles to their full potential since everything depends on them and can make a huge difference when it comes to CTR and time on site.

Title must be eye catching to be more effective. I stumbled upon one funny video in social media. Its all about persons having large books with eye catching titles. They do it to see the reactions of the people around. I really laugh out load because its so funny.

I think the title is like the summary of your content. You need to be creative in doing your eye catching effective title. In the Bible sometimes the whole book is entitled to the author of the book. For example the Book of Mark, John, etc.

Titles are EXTREMELY important. Most people don't even realize how much value they hold. You can even use titles to your advantage when it comes to SEO and reaching that high rank in the search engines.

Just picture yourself as the reader... what's the first thing that you notice if you read any sort of content? Yes! The title. The title is what grabs your initial attention and it's what gets you interested to stick around and continue reading. You have many types of engaging titles such as ''XY tips for'' ''how-to-guides'' ''top XY lists'' and similar. Those always work. But I have noticed that many times people struggle with good titles. It can be hard to fit everything you want to say in few words and still be interesting!

Yes, it is important to put yourself in the shoes of a reader. Sometimes, I make several titles and just get some feedback from my friends on social media. The input helps me to pick a proper title before I use it. It is important to make relevant titles interesting to grab attention. My personal preference is for a title to be around seven to eight words. I try to avoid mundane and boring titles if possible.

The title is definitely an important aspect of any writing. It's what potential readers first encounter and it's what (hopefully) draws them. A catchy title is important, such as the pornstar example you gave. Although I don't feel a title has to be super short, it also should definitely have a point and not be overly long or complicated. I notice that when I am browsing through blogs and forums, I look for titles that quickly catch my eye and either mention something that I know is of interest to me, or mention something that piques my curiosity because I'm not sure what it may be about. At the end of day, drawing in readers is the point of many writings, so that does make the title a rather important aspect of writing.

Using a catchy title is all that might matter to most readers since it is the title that will draw them to focus on reading to get the information the article is trying to pass out. So, I think it's good to make it catchy.

I have to agree with everyone that the title of any written publication is one of the most important features when it comes to attracting readers, but before reading this, I gave very little thought to just how important it really is. Sure, I knew that an exciting and provocative title would have more appeal than something that sounded like I cut and pasted words from a shoe polish ad, but I never really took the time to think of the hundreds of readers that may have read something I published on the web if I had only taken the time to title it with a little more effort and pizazz. Thank you for this nicely manageable, bite size piece of advice!

I strongly believe that title plays an important and extreme role in any kind of writing or article. Readers usually read articles or writing based on what is the title. Such in my case, I usually check the title first if I am to read any article or some kind of books. The title is the first words or statement that we usually see or read first. If you come up with some kind of catchy or intriguing title then people would definitely remember the title and would try to read it whole. And that's the power of the title.

A title is like your name, without it, you are nothing. If an article or a post doesn't have a title, it won't be found for the most part specially on search engines. Sure you still have the content which can always reflect to some search engines but having a title with good keywords really is the key. An article or post without a title, can easily be owned by anyone who wishes to own it. Just like a land, or a house, or a car.

very good examples you have there. Titles are showing that you owned the article, it is yours and better still to add in the keywords that Google SEO is looking for. COuld use keyword tool to check out

There is always no second chance to make a first impression, and therefore in any content I believe that the title should be the most captivating. It is at this point, that you either make it or break it. Therefore, it should be effective enough to compel the readers to open the content, otherwise they'll just scroll to the next article.

I agree that the title should be short and concise. As I was studying, digital marketing, one thing that I was taught is that people are always busy. Therefore, it is always good to only capture the most relevant and important information in the title. It should also be utmost 10 words. If possible, you can localize it too. For example, "Why you should buy land in California."

A book, an article, a comic book, a script, a review or any other content... A title may simply be the success or the failure of what you are writing. It's one of the secrets to attracting the attention of readers (whether they are new readers or not).

The importance of a creative / interesting title is still something underestimated by many writers and this is a mistake that can cost more than they might think.

As everyone else has already stated, titles are incredibly important to anything you write. In fact, your title has an effect on whether or not people will even consider reading your article before they delve into the body. Take click-bait titles, for example. Somebody found out that sensationalized, overblown titles would catch people attention and drive traffic toward their work out simply due to people's curiosity. It wouldn't matter that the article was uninformative or not even related to the title so long as they clicked on it. And it works!

I'm not telling you to write clickbait titles, because I can't stand them and try and stay away from them, but it shows that titles have a powerful effect on readers.

Incredibly important. I like that description for the title. Yeah, when the title is bland or very common, it is blah and nothing more. But if the title is interesting just like the description that you used - incredibly important - it will hook the readers to continue reading because the mind is thinking why it is incredibly important. I have a weakness for creating titles that's why I always consult people on that issue.

Titles are like teasers that gives a glimpse of what your writing material is all about. It should really be catchy while creating curiosity at the same time to make the readers excited. Aside from being catchy, a title should also be believable. No one wants to read an article seeing a title that seem untruthful. Another thing to be considered is readability. A title should be brief. Some people, especially millennials are too lazy to read. Titles that are too long and hard to read will not get their attention. Lastly, the content of the article should give justice to the title so it will not bring frustrations to the readers who really look forward to reading a mind-blowing content that matches their expectations when they saw the title.

The titles of your articles are important to drive in external traffic. They are also called Killer Titles, the keywords used where readers type in Google search is the key point. Attractive and jaw breaking titles could bring in curiosity from the readers.

I think titles are very important and a catchy title can mean the difference between 10 views and 1000 views on the same article. When ever I write a title I try and be as descriptive as I possibly can to try and get as many pageviews as i can. So far I have only wrote one article that got so many views that it crashed the website. What I wouldn't do to have that level of success again!

It's incredibly important to to be strategic when choosing titles for your content, but it's just as important to try to stay away from posting clickbait. Clickbait has been a popular method of gaining views on different social media platforms, and I honestly think it is a plague on online content.

For those who don't know, clickbait is simply posting something with a controversial or tempting title while the actual content is either uninteresting, unexciting, and sometimes even completely irrelevant. Because of this, the use of clickbait titles makes me lose pretty much all respect for a content creator.

It's quite nice to understand what clickbait is all about. I have to say that these are mistakes made by some writers which is quite bad. Using an interesting title, while the body of the work is not worth the stress.

Definitively titles are vital. Whatever it is you are writing for, you need to have a very catchy title.
Usually, that happens to me, I'm searching about anything in particular, then I read a very interesting title, and there I go, clicking on it and checking the article, forum, or blog. The title must be centered on what your subject is, but you have to catch the attention of any reader, so yes, you can feel the pressure when you have to put a title on anything.
What I like to do, is to make it tempting, something that will make anyone to read about it.

When I began writing, understanding everything about the titles of articles were high on my agenda and that has enabled me to see reasons an article will have more views than related others. This shows that using a good title can be beneficial to the writer to earn attention that moment.

I always try to add catchy titles to my articles. The title must be such that it grabs the attention of the readers. A good title is what will allow you to get more views on that content and help in increasing your traffic. At times I spend hours to think about a good title.

I agree, titles are made to catch attention. Its basically a simple way to explain the content, this is how you can make your content interesting and worth reading. Although some people make their titles exaggerating just to make attention, it's not all title that makes a great content. The whole package is what makes a great article.

I totally agree with you but about the bombing title, it might not seem exciting because you say it portrays a sad story but I think it will have many views. This is because the title has captured the emotional aspect. Many people will be touched by the title and they will go ahead and read it.

I also believe the title should be short and clear but it should be able to cover the content so that readers know what to expect.
