Plagiarism is a crime

As the title says “plagiarism” is a crime and I have seen someone picking up few things for my information that I had posted just a week before and also the title is quite similar, actually same. I won’t reveal the name of the user, but I have seen his profile, seems like he is from a South Asian country and his profile picture also says that.
Honestly, I don’t mind if someone is using some of my information or the title because information can be same or similar to one another, but if he or she ask before they can use the information, I don’t mind at all. And for me, I don’t simply write anything, I do a lot of research before I can write and post something, and I use my own words. So if someone does pick one or two things from my post, I can easily figure it out.

It could be a crime if you really intended to steal someone's work. It could be not if there is something reason to do plagiarism or you did not intended to do that. It depends upon the situation whether you will say plagiarism is a crime.

There are many crimes where intent is important, but plagiarism is not one of them. If you copy or create a derivative work of a copyright work, you are infringing the copyright. Whether the rights holder can effectively do anything about it or not is another question. But it is one of those cases where ignorance of the law is no excuse. In the few cases that went to the court, the rights holder was awarded damages equivalent to what they would normally charge for that use. If, as was proven by a lawsuit last year, you post the work of a professional photographer on your blog, that can amount to a rather large amount. The excuse that the blogger found the work on Google and assumed it was not under copyright did nothing to reduce the bill.

I guess it depends upon what you plagiarize. Some people think that plagiarism only means copying someone's work. Stealing ideas can also be a form of plagiarism. Sometimes we use quotations as captions of our pictures. Without proper citation, that can be considered as plagiarism. But I don't think that's a crime. Be careful and make sure to cite your references whenever you are writing.

Plagiarism might not be a crime by law, at least when it comes to posting in online forums, but it is certainly morally questionable behavior. There aren't too many types of people I look down upon in this world, but I feel like plagiarists are certainly one of them. Anyone who steals someone else's work and passes it off as their own is not only a thief but lazy as well, and that is an awful combination. I wouldn't ever mind someone taking my work and posting it somewhere else, so long as they credit me.

I think it badly reflects on the user who plagiarized work by others. I especially detest such behavior since they do not bother to think and put any effort before making a post. These people have the tendency to flood forums and do the same thing over and over again. At the very least, some effort should be made to credit the original writer.

You should tag that guy or tell us his name on your post here. In that way, we can also hear his side if he actually did copy your work or not.

And for me, I don’t simply write anything, I do a lot of research before I can write and post something, and I use my own words. So if someone does pick one or two things from my post, I can easily figure it out.

So do I. You always tell by how the post is delivered. Even if they try to mix up the words or content. Some would even go to the point wherein they would add stuffs at the start, then adding the copied post, and also add their own or another copied post at the last part. It really makes it easier for them.

Hell yeah! Plagiarism is a crime. If you use another person's work and do not attribute that work to the author, including copying text verbatim, paraphrasing a phrase or summarizing an idea, you are essentially committing plagiarism. Plagiarism usually occurs when a writer fails to:

  • cite quotes or ideas written by another author;
  • enclose direct text in quotes; or
  • put summaries and/or paraphrases in his or her own words.
Committing plagiarism could be grounds for expelling a student from a university, terminating a professor's teaching contract, or suing an artist for monetary compensation.

If you ask me, plagiarism is a cross between lying, stealing, and blasphemy, and I think it should punished as much as possible and never tolerated. Stealing the original ideas of someone else and then passing them off as your own is low and heinous, and anyone who would do this is morally reprehensible.

I couldn't agree more with you related to this aspect. I think you've created a new definition for the term "plagiarism", haha! Each adjective that you used dialogues perfectly with the idea of this abominable practice.

Anyone who understands the least about laws knows that "plagiarism" is a crime and certainly it's a term well known in the world of writers.

Unfortunately, the law is not so severe for such cases... But I particularly think that stealing the idea (no matter if it's an original idea or not... after all, it's not yours) from someone and using it to your advantage is something extremely serious and shows how much a person can be dishonest (not to say a heavier / bad word).

It's a shame the world is full of this kind of people.

I was on LiteracyBase and was enjoying that site and earning too until one plagiarist just devoured that site and I wonder if the owner could even handle him. That site is now killed. Many of us have our blogs there and not paid.

The owner was of terrible quality obviously. Any writing site worth its salt would bury a reputed and unabashed plagiarist quickly and inexplicably.

Plagiarism is a crime but seems like no one knows the punishment. You can rewrite an article or use your own words. But when you copy paste without quoting or giving all the credits to the original writer, then it becomes plagiarism.

Plagiarism in its biggest cases and forms can be punishable in a court of law. Depending on the circumstances and how big the offense and the offended - is. In smaller instances - like everyday life for example, plagiarists always pay a huge social price for their crimes. Anyone who has ever been legitimately plagiarized - should ensure the offenders pay that big social price. By being drummed and cast out of their overall social space.

Plagiarism is definitely a crime and I would have been happy had this been punishable by law in my country. Last year someone stole an article I posted on my blog. I can't explain how I felt at that time. I spent a lot of time researching and writing that article. Unfortunately, there will always be some people unscrupulous people called plagiarists.

Most laws against plagiarism are handled in the courts, especially here in America. No one gets arrested for it, even though it is a form of stealing. But you can sue over it in a court of law, and certain institutions will ban or expel a person who commits such an act.

Over here, there is a law against plagiarism that you can be sentenced to a jail term depending on the gravity of the crime. However, I have yet to hear a plagiarist being jailed because one lawyer said that there are loopholes in the law. And to prove a malicious intent in copying an articles is not that easy to prove. In the internet, there are many plagiarists but it seems that no one is punished yet.

Doesn't everyone plagiarise? What is plagiarism?Even if you write the article in your own words it's still plagiarism.Your copying someone else's idea unless it's wholly yours. Plagiarism is copying some else's idea without acknowledging them or not noting it's not your own. Plagiarism in academic institutions is very serious it can get you suspended or expelled. In the freelancing world it is not that serious, you may displease your client and even lose them.

I think plagiarism is copying the whole thing without giving credits to the owner. You can get the idea but it doesn't mean you can copy the whole thing as this will violent the law. Even drawing and designing, this is very particular in this field for a lot of people (they claimed their self as an artist) will steal the work of others and claim that its their own work. You can paraphrase or rephrase it. We can't tell that we are the first one to have that idea or what but humans exist long long years here on earth so I think the ideas we have might already performed by those people from the past. We can used the work of others as reference but we can't just copy and steal their work. We should still give the owner a credit.

Plagiarism is wrong and it's unethical. It's theft! Plain and simple.

Allow me to placed it in very simple a form. Think you and a acquaintance are each interested by winning the heart of a few individual. Now assume you write a great love poem that your acquaintance sees, copies and shares with this love interest earlier than you have the possibility to accomplish that. The acquaintance wins the heart of this individual who has been so essential to you. What might you feel about plagiarism now?

That is not right. I have a poem once that's been stolen from me and I was so mad at the blogger but he was a known so I can't do anything.

It also happened to me twice. It feels so bad. I did two articles using free WordPress hosting. Someone just copied the content, word to word and I had nothing to do. You just leave it to God and move on, although that should be a criminal case.
