Who or what inspired you to start writing?

Whenever you ask a well-known writer if they ever had any inspiration that made them begin writing, they usually answer yes. Initial inspirations very often have a big impact on the writers future work. It can be seen as those few extra pushes that we sometimes need to start believing that we're capable of writing amazing things.

I can admit that if it wasn't for my high school teacher that I would never take writing seriously. She was the one that always showed interest in the essays that I have written or the short discussions that we had to write after each class. She was my true inspiration to start believing in myself and in the things that I wrote. Without her, I wouldn't find this passion that's inside me. I love to express myself through writing - even if it's just with simple articles or stories, it's truly amazing to be able to create ANYTHING you want with words and your imagination.

So, tell us, who or what inspired you to even begin writing? Was it somebody you know personally? Or was it perhaps a famous author? let's discuss!

I think the person who really got me into writing was Quentin Tarantino. It may seem odd because he's a movie director, but when he writes his characters, he writes them so believably, and their dialogue is always interesting and entertaining. This is the reason I got into scriptwriting. I wanted to create a world on paper, put characters in it, and then bring it to life on the screen through film production. I don't write novels or anything like that, but I love formatting a script and getting a story down on paper that way!

I have to agree. I've seen a lot of his interviews and it really is interesting to hear about his process in writing and also his passion and talent for the craft really shines in his movies. I think his visual style is only second to his writing in terms of contribution to how well his movies turn out, or at most they are equally important.

This is very interesting. Do you follow his influences as well? He is a very literary writer, I would say. He is really into the old hard-boiled detective novels of the fifties and sixties, and he also was really influenced by J.D. Salinger. Of course, Pulp Fiction also is influenced, in a great deal, by the Bible and many of its proverbs and philosophies. This is so cool that you have been influenced so much by him. He is also one of my writer/director heroes.

I do not follow his influences that closely when I write. When I channel my inner Tarantino, it's in effort to make character dialogue as as believable or entertaining as possible. "How would Tarantino's characters say this line?" is something my screenwriting friends and I will post to each other when we're having a tough time getting a feel for a line.

When it comes to themes in a script, I think I tend to draw from people like Ridley Scott and to a lesser extent Wes Craven. I enjoy a good thriller, and I like to write scripts in that genre as well.

Technically, particularly editing-wise, I look to Edgar Wright quite a bit. The way his scenes transition between one another is fluid, seamless and logical, and I try and incorporate that into my films as well.

I don't write at all anymore, to be honest with you. I just don't have the time nor the interest to write anything. But I loved writing creative stories and books when I was smaller. I would love to design different front covers for them and I would spend ages just writing stuff on Microsoft Word or on paper.

There were so many books that I read when I was smaller that inspired me to start writing. But I think it has to be Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that first inspired me to try writing something. Roald Dahl was an absolute genius and I love all his books. But for me, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was the best.

That really was one of the greatest works of all time. Not just the book but the movie as well. I think it was so revolutionary in that tales like this are usually structured to teach kids a lesson, but instead Dahl made the story to be a cautionary tale towards adults who are neglectful of their children. I'm not sure but I think that it has a lot to do with his personal experiences, and I have to say I can relate a lot to it so it's definitely inspiring to me as well.

Roald Dahl is also one of my favorite authors. He is one of the best story writers of all time. I loved reading his book "Boy" which is basically an autobiography of his life. He talks about how he was raised as a child, the teacher who hated him, and the daunting moment when he was taken to the doctor to get his tonsils removed.

I really enjoyed reading the responses to this post. I was expecting to see all sorts of tributes to famous authors or thanks to professors and was relieved really, to see that to the contrary, most people were a lot like me in that there was no great "aha" moment when they knew they wanted to write. And like me, a lot of people admitted to not being all that published themselves. So far my writing has not taken me where I want to go or rather I haven't taken my writing where I want it to be. But that doesn't mean I won't. Thanks to the encouragement of people I have wrote articles for recently and in the past, I continue to expand my horizons and my talent. These are the people who keep me moving forward with my desire to write something of merit. But there was one funny quirk I had when I was growing up and that was turning my spelling words into entire stories. We used to be assigned twenty words a week for spelling and comprehension. In order to aid us in this we would need to write a sentence for each of the spelling words showing that we understood what the word meant. I would take this assignment a step further and write a cohesive story made up of sentences using the twenty spelling words. Though these stories were not great, they got me writing, and while I was not yet noted for style and content, I was getting a reputation for creativity. Something about those corny stories I wrote for all of grade seven, left me with an itch to write and I'm glad.

I wish I'd had your experience with spelling words. Any fun that could have been had with the subject was ruined by my mother's poor attitude during study sessions in which she'd get angry when you spelled a word incorrectly. Consequently, I'm still an atrocious speller to this day! If people knew how much I rely on Grammarly and other spell checking features they'd laugh me away from my keyboard. Fortunately for me, these cognitive prosthetics do exist for my spelling-challenged brethren.

As for any "aha!" moment, the closest thing I had was the first time I was published. I had always created stories when I was younger as I needed that creative outlet before I discovered music. I used to attend poetry circles in my city through my teenage years. During one such session, I had doodled an image and set it to a short prose while I listened to the big dogs recite their masterpieces. There was a guy who ran a self-published monthly magazine that distributed statewide, containing stories and poems from local circles he attended. He saw what I was doing and wanted to publish it. It was very flattering! I had never even considered the idea. Nothing I was doing was on the level of the people I was spending time with, but the experience did plant the seed of a peculiar hunger which I chase in various ways to this day.

Like you, I can also trace the roots of my interest in writing back to my languages teachers back in school. In a bid to improve grammar, we would be asked to write essays on particular subjects and then the teacher would go through them and gives each one of us a mark out of 40.

As this continued, we would read essays from other outstanding students and professional writers just to get a glimpse of what was expected of us. I always got fascinated by the flow of the stories, and really desired to come up with my own, like those

Therefore I buried myself into books with phrases to spice up my writings, then came up with essays that I took to the teachers for crosschecking. In no time, I was doing so well that my essays would be used as an example. This really built my interest, one of the reasons I do it today.

@TheArticulate Well I must say that that is a very good approach. Especially at a time like this when people are addicted to movies, this would be one of the best ways to impact their lives positively. From what I have seen however, this requires a whole new level of creativity, especially for the animated movies. Many movies have been scripted and coming up with an original script, must be really involving. I just would like to commend you for that.

I don't know that there was a particular incident or person that inspired me into writing. As far as I can recall, I've always loved writing. When I was a kid, I would create my own little books with stories and drawings in them. I was thrilled when I received my first diary at age nine, I wrote it every night whether I had something to write about or not! In fifth grade I won an award for a short story I wrote and throughout high school I had several short stories and poems published in the school paper. I've just always loved writing. I love words and stories. I especially love having a way to express my imagination and all the possibilities that writing provides. I haven't particularly taken my writing on as a profession, but I still love writing little things here and there when I can, which is why I enjoy blogs and forums so much.

I’m tempted to say, ‘anything and everything’ however it’s more than that. I like a challenge and virtually all of my stories begin as a title around which I weave the plot. If I’m stuck for a story idea, I often chose a song title as inspiration.
The Same Old Song, The Pied Piper, Substitute are all songs I enjoy and I once again based stories on these titles.

I don't think there is someone or something who or which inspired me to write stuffs. All I know is I just wanted to share my personal point of views when it comes to things that I am interested with. I don't really care if people read it or share it . All I want is to have a published document or article online so whenever I want to read or share them to someone, I can easily access it. That is why I have never bought a website or hosting site for my blogs because I don't know if how long I could maintain it. So I used the free ones instead specially from the big companies and has link to my social media account.

I was inspired to write by the writers on the blogs I frequently visited throughout the years. There was one in particular that was about movies and the entertainment industry in general that I really got into and I'd say that played a major part in my decision to start a blog of my own. Unfortunately, the site has already been sold and the quality of the writing in my favorite blog has gone down significantly over the last few years, but on the bright side, I am thankful that it lead me to start my own site. I don't really make much money off my my blog, to be honest, but having a space where I can express my thoughts regularly helps a lot with easing my stress.

I started to write a blog 9 years ago when my brother-in-law told me about Adsense earnings. He had earned quite a sum of money online by selling domain names. However, I do not have any knowledge on that. I surfed online for recipes and Hubpages was the first site I got hooked. I created my account, god paid on the 4th month USD$50, I was thrilled. Now after 9 years of blogging, I am still with Hubpages and other new blogs. Some comes, some goes, only Hubpages retained.

I started writing when i felt i it's time for me to start writing . i don't know or is it just me, people can't influence my decisions or opinions. so i can't say i was inspired or influenced. and my views where always different from the view of most people and i found out that i need to reach out to people who think like me, or have the same views like mine. That was when i launched my first blog, and that was when i knew i needed to write, because i can't hire someone to air my views, because i don't think anyone can tell my story better than i.
And that was how my journey began, now the rest is history.

Honestly! No one inspired me to become a writer like making article, poetry, poems and other stuffs done by writing. Instead I developed my skills in writing by watching movies, anime with English subtitles, and reading online articles. It helps me a lot to enhance my ability to construct an English sentences. Knowing how to speak and write English language is an advantage for me because we know that English language is a universal language and most use by people to communicate outside the country.

There was no particular person who inspired me to write. That drive comes from the satisfaction I derive in the creation of my own imaginative worlds. There is just something deeply edifying to me about having an idea, then slowly developing it to become this complex narrative that has tempo and agency of its own. I especially love the idea of what other people's minds are doing as they read my stories. They give a unique voice to the characters and see settings all their own. Provoking their imaginations this way bring me joy and I hope to reach wider audiences with each new publication.

I really don't know where the inspiration came from. I just knew that whenever I had any strong emotions, I always felt the need to pen it down. It was my way of release and escape.
Growing up, there were lots of books lying around the house and so I picked interest. More interestingly in poetry. I see poetry as a place and an art where you could get away with fusing any kind of words together, the creativity is just at its peak.

I got inspired to get into writing back in high school. There was no singular event that made me want to explore this hobby. Instead, it was that throughout writing so many essays and papers and reading so many novels, I realized that I have the skills to be a writer, and I soon realized that I have the creative aspect too. While it wasn't, and still isn't my primary dream in life, I found a lot of joy in writing. When I was younger, I was geared to think that creatives, including authors, couldn't make any money or achieve anything. I realized that this wasn't the case very soon. I wrote emails and advertisements for swap meets back when I was in high school, and even got paid a little bit for it. After that, I knew that I had potential to make writing into a decent hobby and possibly be able to get a novel published one day. While I still haven't gotten a novel out yet, I am steadily on the way, and I have learned to really enjoy writing.

My inspirations usually comes from something that's bothering me and I need to put them - somehow - in the "paper". So, to speak something very specific is complicated for me because the inspirations are always very diversified.

Plus, I don't like to limit myself and this makes things even harder if I have to choose something very specific. I'd rather always let things flow normally.

I could not remember the person that motivated me to start writing. I can at this point tell you that writing seems to be innate in me especially after my primary education. The motivational factor I can really remember is my attitude towards history, both verbally and orally. It creates a strong imaginative situation in my memory which I always like to put down by writing so as not to forget it at all point. Writing has been a hubby that has earned me series of award and other entertaining goodies. When I learnt about this platform, I was happy to engage in another entertaining contest. The motivation to me is innate never from a particular person.

I have many people who have inspired me to write. My mother was the first person who inspired me while everyone else inspired me to continue to write. When I was ten years old, I would sit in my room and draw on the weekends. I played with objects until my mother came into my room and told me to write. She explained to me that it made no sense for me to sit around on the weekends and do absolutely nothing. I began to write one page stories that consisted of three paragraphs. I wrote about absolutely everything that I thought was interesting to me at that time. As I got older, I began to expand my stories to about three to four pages. My father saw how much I would write and told me that I should also read to gain more knowledge and ideas. He brought me books that I would read and gather some ideas and facts to write about. When I reached my senior year of high school, I was put in Creative Writing. I would write stories and poems for my teacher that she would display on the boards because she said I was the best. My parents and my English teacher are my biggest inspirations as well as books. Without reading, I wouldn't have so much ideas to write about. Every book that I have read in the past has given me at least one idea of what I should write about in a book. Till this day, I still read to collect ideas for my upcoming books that I will write.

No one or nothing inspired me to write actually. I think it is already in me. Writing comes out naturally in me maybe because I do have this very large and various ideas and thoughts in mind which tend for me to share or post. I also have this vast and vague perceptions and interpretations on things and the fact that I am very an opinionated lady who is not afraid to bent out one's point or stand. Even when I am discussing with my peers, I tend to have like a debate with them which sometimes I don't like. Though they already know that I am really like that, it is just sometimes it is not healthy and decent enough to be like in a heated conversation especially when it is not supposed to be like that. However, despite of being like this, I can say that I am not a good speaker or a public speaker. Unlike writing, I am confident that I can do good or even better because I believe I do have the right words and points to ponder. Just like writing a song, I do have the lyrics and the melody. Who or what inspired you to start writing?

I know some of the popular writers here but the main inspiration that motivated me into writing is the blog owner who invited me to write as a co-blogger. Since the niche was about pets which I love, I did not hesitate to agree. And I was right because although it was difficult at first with the required revisions, I felt comfortable with the subject matter. This is not to brag but I was writing from my stock knowledge and just a few times did I consult Google for verifying my data. Now that I am into writing for 3 years perhaps I can do solo with my own blog.

I was in high school when a teacher noticed that I can write well in English. He pushed me to join competitions in and out of school. I won the first essay contest I joined. I was called on the stage and I received a gift pack from the school head. That motivated me to join more contests. I'm not really sure if I was that good in English writing. I do know that whatever comes out on my paper was a product of my love for reading and that in my school, I was probably the only high school student reading Reader's Digest, law gazettes, and college textbooks. There were a lot of books in my home because my dad was an avid reader and learner. However, I forgot about writing when I went to college. It was many, many years forward that I'll get to rediscover it. While it was the gift packs that inspired me then, it's now the money I'm earning out of it that's motivating me to write.

Every time I read her works I feel so glad that I am be able to read such a wonderful story. She really writes like a professional writer even though she is not that popular like the others, and her works are really amazing. She was short of one person, ad being her nephew and all, she chose me to fill the gap in her team. As inexperienced as I was, I had no choice but to join her team of writers. To everyone's surprised, I got the first place in News writing category, while all of my other teammates fall off the competition. I discovered then that I could write. Since then I began my journey as a writer. I would always be thankful for my aunt.
