Well as for me, I love the amount of humility in a statement in which the words; please, excuse, thank you and sorry are included. People love when they are treated with respect, and one of they ways that this can be displayed is by regularly including the above words in your speech. In fact people will always have a way to punish you if you constantly act in pride.

Though I am always a little shy, I also love the so called, the three magic words; I love you. Not necessarily when spoken to by a spouse, but even a regular pal. They make one feel recognized as being part of a society.

Ah, I see that you understood his question differently than I did! I thought he meant just generally speaking not which I use every day and are my favorite.

You listed some of the most important and impactful words. I think that we all don't use the basic words of, "please" and "thank you" nearly enough. It's a big sign of respect everywhere around the world.

Totally agree. I feel sad that some people nowadays forget the true meaning of those words specially the 'thank you' and 'sorry' ones. I mean, sure anyone can say those words almost like instantly but the feeling and emotion isn't there anymore. It's like, it has become a habit to just say those words instantly specially if you need to because of the given situation which requires you to utter those words. Or maybe I am just overacting.

I'm not good as a writer to write about such words. But I have my ten favorite words which are gorgeous, polite, kind, faith, peace, love, freedom, family, friends, and nature. But there are more words I like. Your Ten Favorite Words

Do you mean my favorite words in general or when it comes to writing?

I try and always use different words through the sentences or when I am talking to avoid sounding too repetitive. Generally speaking, I love those weird words that many people don't use frequently.

Here are my ten favorite words: paradox, absolutely, serendipity, utterly, onomatopoeia, dubious, beyond, simplicity, obedient, definitely.

Tronia,
Yes--I love words, so I was just curious as to what words people really enjoyed to use, read, say, etc. Sorry if I was unclear. Plus, secretly, I was hoping to learn some new words from you guys myself.

My favorite word would be "beautiful" .It doesn't necessarily mean the physical appearance. I personally interchange the word with the feeling of peace, tranquility and love. it is so epic
A lot of times when you say "she is beautiful", people tend to look for physical appeal and they don't see what you see. But for me beauty is run deep within the soul which reflects on the outside. If you have a good heart then you are way too beautiful.
I love the three magic words as well and for some funny reason I love the word "broken".

I don't understand. Your Ten Favorite Words It would be best if you try to be more elaborate and detailed next time please. Short threads such as these with very little sentences would make the viewers and readers get confused specially if it seems so vague like your other posts too. No offense. Your Ten Favorite Words

I have to agree with you. It is slightly confusing because the title says one thing and the post says something a bit different. Do I post my ten favourite words or do I post my most favourite word (as asked in your post)? I'm not sure what they would be any way to be fair. I don't think anyone really has any "favourite words".

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Point taken and no offense taken! Sorry about the confusion here. I don't think that I can go back and edit this at this point, but what I was meaning to ask for a is a list of your favorite ten words and then maybe a quick explanation why you like the sort of vocabulary that you do. However, I obviously dropped the ball here. I have definitely learned to be much more specific next time.

No worries! I do this a lot; like everyday! - the confusion thing lol. I sometimes end up confusing someone specially those who I talk to because I sometimes cannot focus on one thing at a time. Really weird. >.> As for the words, my vocabulary is very limited since English isn't my main language and thanks to movies, books and animes, I learned, like a lot. - and oh! Video games too! I can't list my favorite words with so much property because I have to know first what I'm going to write about... So, they'll - most of the time - always vary according to the content being written.

I mean, I can start from the simplest concepts and end up in the more complex concepts or vice versa.

I usually use "Usually" and "Majority in my posts, scatter them almost every new paragraphs!

I don't have any single favorite word. Usually, a word by itself lacks enough context to have value. Words are only meaningful when they come in packs! I think of it a bit like music. Solo musicians do exist and many of them are very talented. However, it's really when you get several people playing together in a specific context that real magic starts to happen. LIkewise, a word is very limited on its own so I don't pay much attention to them individually. I'm looking for a flow when I write. I want rhythm. I don't really achieve that very well yet, but it's something I'm more cognizant of as time passes.

My favorite word is "swoon". It is not a common word that we use anymore, but I like its meaning and how it makes one feel when we are in love. I have a friend who speaks Serbian and she just thinks this English word is great, and in the last month, I have adopted it as my new favorite!!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Oh yeah, this is such a great word, and it packs a huge punch for only being one syllable. I like the meaning behind it too, and I have to admit, I have "swooned" a few times in my life. I just noticed that the past tense of swoon, which I just typed, is also one syllable. A cool word no matte how you cut it.

I will have to actually go back and read my blogs that i have submitted at various sites to actually know what words I frequently use. Strange as it may seem I had shared an article with a friend without mentioning that it was from me. But she said from the style of that writing she guessed it was mine. That shows I do have some favourite words that I use (lol)

You are a writer if people can notice your work like that just from reading it without initially knowing it was from you. That's really cool! That means you have style, voice, an established tone, and a mastery of your content, most likely. I think it is really hard for us as writers to establish our own original voice. I hope that I have, but I am not quite sure yet. Friends tell me that I have, but I know I could always be better.

When it comes to voice I have one that is unique and I do not have to introduce myself while talking on the phone. Most recognise my voice and even those I hardly talk to regularly.

I noticed that when I write in blogs or comments, I frequently used the followings words:
However
Therefore
In addition
And
Initially
Regardless
Frequently
Confidence
Don't give up

I learned to use these words during my secondary school days which had became a habit until now.

I found your selection of words kinda interesting and usual (in a good way, of course). But do they have any special reason to become so frequent in your writing? I mean, in what kind of approach / context do you usually make use of them?

You know this is a pretty darn good question. Unfortunately when someone asks me my favorite words, my mind automatically reverts to a list of curse words which I sadly use quite liberally (I'm working on it, I swear)! That being said, I suppose there are some modest words which I like to use. Some of them would include:

- Sincere
- Serene
- Tranquility
- Illuminated
- Focus
- Obtain
- Determination
- Noble
- Unique
- Shrub

Don't ask about the last one, something about the word shrub just appeals to me.

I'm not sure if I can give 10, but I do in fact have one favorite word. That word would be "brilliant".

While it's true that the word "brilliant" is similar to many others, there's just something about it that stands out for me. Perhaps it's because it's not as commonly said as much as "Amazing" or "Awesome"? I'm not sure, but to me it means a lot more than those and just gives me a unique vibe I guess.

Probably one of my favorite words is BOMB, not the one that explode. I mean something or someone that is really attractive or cool, like "that guy is so bomb" but never say this word on airplane..

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
This word strikes me as interesting because it can be a verb or a noun. Also, it can have so many different connotations, like the one you are mentioned, which is positive and meant as compliment. There was once a really cool literary magazine that I remember from years ago called "BOMB". Cool word choice, as long as I avoid thinking of terrorists or Hiroshima.

When am writing i do not have favorites words unlike when am talking or chatting. It also depends on what or who am talking to. If am in the hood with my friends and we are randomly talking about things. They are some words i use and when am talking official matters or otherwise, they are some words that i like to use. I also a big fun of slang and new words. If there is a new cool slang that i like i will use it for sometime until it fades away.

Epiphany and oxymoron always have a funny side to me. One looks like an old name for a woman, and the other looks like a rude bad insult hahaha. Beside those, I always have trouble writing the word: Rhythm, oh my... seriously i had to check the word a lot to write it right now. I have no clue why it always seems tricky to me, I guess because English is not my native language, and usually we don't put that combination of consonants in one word in Spanish.

I am not sure if I have favorite words since I am not a grammar person. I am always happy when I learn new words that seem to be complicated in my own head. I learned the word Inveigle few weeks ago and it made me feel good and motivated to keep reading so I can learn more.

Though I do not know my favorite top 10 words, I LOVE YOU is my favorite.

I loved lot of words but if I will name them I guess it will exceed about ten words. But I will try it so first, God, family, peace, freedom, happiness, forever, endless, countless, unlimited, love. But still there are more words I love. So we just need just ten words which I love so that's it.

First, let me issue this disclaimer that I have a small vocabulary. Anyway, that’s the first word that I always use – anyway. And the other words are mostly, really, and maybe. So far, those 4 words are on top of my head. They are rarely absent in my articles that’s why I’m reading the thesaurus from time to time in order to expand my English vocabulary. But I know I am improving somehow and with patience and perseverance my improvement will be marked.

My favorite word is "December", its the 12th month of the year and a lot of festivities including Christmas is being celebrated in December.

Why December? Well I was born on the 26th of that month and i can always see happiness in peoples faces every time someone mentions that word.

The thing with speaking words is that we tend to develop at it with time and another time that I've come to notice is that people also tend to speak some of these words often that they become familiar with it. The ten words that I use often when I write are:

lovely
Hearty
Amazing
Interesting
However
Also
Succinct
Maybe
That
What

There are still lots of others, but these ones are the ones that I don't joke with.

I love the feeling when saying these words: eclipse, crisp, elegant, glorious, cascade and exquisite. The other 4 words I'll include are pretty special: rhythms (no vowels), facetiously (a, e, i, o, u, y, in order), syzygy (no vowels but 3 y's), and hydroxyzine (has x, y, z consecutively).

Well, if we are talking about a certain word/s, the first thing comes to my mind is the word GENUINE. I don't have exactly 10 favorite words but the word genuine is special to me because I want everything to be genuine and we should be genuine to our words and to our actions at all times.

The funniest thing is that my favorite word keeps changing. At the moment my favorite word is however. I use it all the time. Whenever I'm writing I find an excuse to bring it into the sentence. I also like words. I love twitter because it has many intelligent people and I love their phraseology. I learn so many new words and how to apply them to many conversations. I'm also just moving on from like the word henceforth. Funny I know but I used to love it.
