Writing – Just DO it!

Here is something cool that I have learned over the last few years and I have had a few people ask me for tips on how to get started.

My biggest tip is well to get started you sort of need to get started!

What exactly do I mean by this? Well when I first started I was so scared to push that publish button on my first blog post ever. I went back and I looked at it and I edited and I saved it as a draft.

The next day I opened it to publish it and I decided to change something else.

It must have taken me two weeks just to get to pushing that publish button.

And no it wasn’t a great blog post at all. It was quite awful actually.

But that is not the point. You will never be great the first time you try something and you can edit your first blog post for the next 5 years… it will probably still be shit.

That doesn’t matter actually. Just do it anyway.

You get good by writing all the time.

I used to struggle to write content and it would take me a few days to write one post for one website.

Now I write content for a number of websites on a number of different topics.

I churn out content like there is no tomorrow.

How did I do this? By writing more and more every day. Each time I publish something I am improving my skills and this is the only way to do it.

So thinking of writing something? Be like Nike… Just Do It!

Yes, a lot of people give up even before they publish a single article, you need to have a little courage and just go with the flow, don't wait too long before you actually start writing. You don't need a lot of research and plan things out, at least at first, you just need to write and improve that writing because chances are it will pretty much suck at first.

Not that many people have a native talent for writing, most of us need to work on it everyday.

Exactly Cristian, all things take practice before you become good at it and writing is exactly the same!

Writing is a skill that needs to be developed over time.

I think it is important to practice and keep doing something until you become better at it. This trick applied to me since I developed my own skills after a long period of time. It is important to read a lot and improve our personal knowledge to enable creation of interesting content.

It is no wonder that Nike decided to market those three magical words, "just do it." They really can do wonders for you in practically any field of your life. A lot of the time when I don't feel like opening my laptop and getting to work, I tell myself to not think twice about it and to not try to talk myself out of it. Instead I tell myself to shut up and just do it, and next thing I know I'm hard at work. Same thing goes for exercising or just about anything that we normally may not feel like doing. You tell your brain to shut up, just do it, and magic happens.

Yes, it is all about motivation. Sometimes, I find myself prone to procrastinating certain tasks. I guess it is easier to set a schedule and stick to it. I think that most writers think too much causing them to take the first step. Once we overcome that mental block, it is pretty easy to get in the zone. I find it hard to recover after vacations though since I become lazy to work during that period.

Yes, I have the similar problem with writer's block. I tend to procrastinate alot, causing back log articles which could last up to years instead of months. It is hard to get rid of it if I think too much. I must stick to a schedule and stick to it, then I can succeed.

Haha, I was the same as you. It would literally take me a week to finally publish something... or I would have the general idea in my head but for some reason, I was scared to actually write it all down. Sometimes, I had such a hard time producing new content... like I'm trying to give birth! But I agree that with experience and time, it gets so much easier. I can write content 10x times faster than a few years back. I've just learned better how to express my thoughts through words and making it interesting.

You know what they say, practice makes perfect and unless you don't write, you can't get better at it. Force yourself at the initial stages Writing – Just DO it!

It's always bad to over think something and that is especially true for blog posts. If you have written something and everything is perfect in terms of grammar and spelling, then just publish it. There is nothing worse than looking over it, saving a draft and then saying to yourself that you will publish it later. It just leads you down a road where you will just delay publishing that post even more.

Yeah, this is the reason I don't hold back after penning down my thoughts about things I have observed and researched on. I always publish both of blogs and social media and let the audience do the talking. It is by doing so that I get better at writing and feel comfortable doing so as well.

I think it's all right to look over it for a review and check for improvements. But you have to publish it the moment you end your review. It is not good to just save what you have written for it may not be published anymore. Besides, depending on the subject matter, what you have written may be stale or out of fashion when you wait for long before publishing it.

This article is amazing advice for young, new writers like me. It's very motivating, and it gives me more incentive to want to start new projects, instead of stagnating on what I'm already working on. I haven't had any trouble generating content on forums and blogs, and I don't take that for granted. However, when it comes to starting new ideas for my novel, or creating ideas for other books, I experience a lot of writer's block, and a lot of fatigue. The philosophy of the "Just do it" approach is the best one that I've ever run into. Creating outlines and diagrams never helped me nearly as much as just diving in, and starting to write.

This philosophy also helps me when I'm turning in essays. I attend a fully online college, and I sometimes experience a little anxiety before emailing them to my professor, or pressing the share button on Google Docs. However, it always works to just go back through it quickly, make a couple quick changes, and turn it in. I have to admit, sometimes I have to take a break after this to get my mind off of it, but at least I was able to turn it in!

Starting is the most difficult thing and when one opens their 'shop' ideas will just flow. No doubt there are many stages to finish what we have started and at each stage it is necessary that we have the same enthusiasm as we plunge into action. Setting a goal is therefore necessary as that takes one further towards achieving what one has set forth doing.

It's true that starting is the most difficult stage of doing anything in life and that's the reason I support this idea of beginning irrespective of whether we are ready to start or not. Things can be adjusted later as we move on with writing a book or a a blog post, but not starting can make things difficult.

Yes! Just do it! I feel the same. Nothing will happen if you don't get started and just do it. It's normal to commit mistakes as a beginner but it should not be the reason for you to keep on postponing what you should do. Everyone started as a beginner anyway. Successful writers just decided to do it and improve along the way. They commit mistakes and fail but they just do it. I did the same the first time I was asked to write. It was actually a difficult topic for me and I can't relate with it and yet I still choose to just do it. I ended up having my article published, and surprisingly, the client have no corrections for it. Not bad for a first timer. I totally agree that no matter what the circumstances are, we just need to do it without hesitations.

This is an awesome piece that I've read in a long time which means that I should just start and not get worried about how perfect it is going to be. Things can be reviewed as I work, but the core part is starting out at the moment. I'm grateful that I learnt more about it for it is going to help me get better.

Great post. I also have experienced this. My first posts have never looked perfect to me. I feel my writing skills have improved over the years. I have always had the pressure to copy someone else but getting feedback for my original work encourages me to write more and keep learning.

I still have a copy of my first blog post and whenever I look at it I can't stop laughing. Firstly, the content is of poor quality and there are some errors. However, over the years I have learned from all my mistakes and perfected my writing skills. I have to admit that I am still learning.

I tend to agree that to be a writer you must start writing and as soon as you've finished writing and editing, post it! Being over too critical most of the time can work against you. It's always best to write and post as many articles as you can and overtime your writing skills would improve and develop. Like they say, practice makes perfect.

I agree with this. Just do it. When I was offered a blogging position, I did not hesitate because what’s on my mind was that I love to write about my passion and I can do it .So I did it. That’s also my advice to beginners who want to be a writer. If you think you can write then just do it. Don’t hesitate because being reluctant can only add to your discouragement. Just write and do the thinking afterwards. Now, if all those who had read your writing are in unison in saying that you cannot write, that’s the time to stop writing otherwise… write with gusto.
