That one blog/forum mistake that you regret.

I think it was 2011 and I ran a super nice Michigan blog/forum. That started to pick up huge traffic and against my greater wisdom I decided to butcher the website and get rid of the blog part of the website and it cut the website off at the knees and it never recovered.

I often wonder where that website would be right now if I hadn't made such a huge mistake. These days I try to not rock the boat when i make websites. I like to keep the original concept/design. What is that one blog/forum mistake that you regret.?

My mistake was to name my blog. I gave it a name that only talks of one niche where being a multi faceted personality I will have much to stay but putting my writings under that niche is not right. I am now planning on opening another blog and give it the right title.

you can change the name of your blog but cannot change the url link. My blogger dot com name was changed after I found out the traffic was slow

That may not look good as if the url opens with a name that has no relevance to the changed name of the blog it may put off viewers. I am seriously thinking of creating a new blog with a different title and transfer the content of the present blog there under a suitable title.

I was reading a post on one of the IonicWare sites about sister niches and this was one of the points. Choosing a name that allows you to go in different directions is a good idea because you do not know when you might go into a different niche or start writing about different topics. Do you use a domain? If so then it won't be difficult to just get a rebranding and then change your domain as well.

I did this too back on my very first blogs. I was too excited (and too young) to start blogging that I failed to see how things are going to be in the future, and the name of the blog eventually just didn't attract any readers.

This is something that has always worried me when going into any sort of endeavor. I fear that I'll call my project one thing, only to end up branching out and having my name become obsolete. I've seen this happen with a lot of YouTube channels for example. A person might start a YouTube channel with a name like "ActionVideoGamer" or something along those lines, and start out posting nothing but video game content. Then later on they branch out into all sorts of other projects and the name becomes irrelevant. It's hard starting over at that point if they've gained success because who knows if all your followers will transfer over to a new channel.

I think the mistake I made and still feel hurt was not getting the necessary tools needed to run a blog. I began and because of limited experience, I couldn't do it till the end of time. I'm planning to start a new blog soon.

I think sometimes our excitement at doing something is so high that it blinds us in some way and it seems we can't see mistakes as simple as the lack of tools needed to do a certain task.

This has happened to me, and it's really annoying.

This is partially what's stopping me from jumping into a blog project. I really want to start a blog, but the thing is that I don't want to get started only to realize that I've hit a brick wall and don't know what steps to take. I've been doing a lot of research and learning up on all the tactics and skills it takes to successfully run and monetize a blog, so I'll be 100% prepared once the time comes.

Okay maybe not 100% because life always throws some sort of curve balls at you, but at least 90% prepared.

I regret of having not one. I fear that it might be catchy or people will not be interested in it. I worry too much of having it published. I did some drafts for a blog, yet I don't have not try to post it. I made some microblogs anyways.

Aw, don't be afraid of that? If you don't try something you can never know the results. Remember that fear is in your head. You should just literally decide that you will make a blog and that's it. Don't keep changing your mind and thinking "oh, nobody will read this" and so on. We all went through that phase.

Aww. Thanks for the encouragement my friend. That I will do. No one is successful without taking risks.

It's never too late to start a blog, and you'll never know if anyone will read it if you never posted in the first place, and every opportunity you don't take is worse than trying and not getting there.

I think that promoting greater interaction among members without a kind of "heavier" moderation is one of the few mistakes that I regret.

However, a good thing happened because of this mistake was that I learned how much a moderator's job can (and indeed is) a very complicated thing (and it certainly generates a lot of headaches, haha).

Hm... the biggest mistake that I have done and I regret is regarding my blog. The blog was going really, really well and kept growing every single day. The unique visitor's numbers were steadily raising but I was just too lazy to keep producing content so I sort of left the blog inactive. I have recently reopened it and it's back on its tracks but still. It makes me wonder where it would be right now if I wasn't so stupid That one blog/forum mistake that you regret.

Don't feel like this, after all... This is something that can happen to everyone at some point. But since you've decided to revive your project (and you know the outcome will be good), invest time and creativity into it. That one blog/forum mistake that you regret.

Tronia,
I completely identify with your post here. I, mistakenly, did the exact same thing with one of my blogs. I think that they call this "resting on your laurels". I saw some success and then got a bit complacent. Like you, I've gone back to that old blog and tried to restore it to its former "glory", but it just does not seem to be happening, unfortunately. Like you, I also wonder what could have been there, but it was a lesson learned, and I will not do that again, and I remind myself to stay hungry every day on all of my projects.

Yes, I know what you mean I once had a good blog very good blog it started to rank as well. But this was a few years back and all of a sudden I went through a financial situation. Which I couldn't afford to pay hosting and domain and was gutted as lost it and all my posts and my ranking keywords. By the time I had the cash together it was too late all gone That one blog/forum mistake that you regret. often wonder what or where I be now if I still had this successful blog.

I have had hosting problems in the past myself and people say why not upgrade the hosting. And its because it goes from $5 a month to $40,$50,$80 ect, you get the picture. And unless you have deep pockets it becomes a very expensive hobby with a quickness.

They say that experience is the best teacher, and it's so unfortunate that you had to suffer that ordeal with your website after splitting the blog part. Definitely, I'm sure that this taught you a huge lesson in how to go about managing your new website.

When I started out blogging, I never took it seriously and I was writing just anything that came to mind. With my poor grammar back then, I never gave the blog a fresh start and so the earlier visitors must have been chased away. Although I regret it and wanted to delete the blog and start a new one, I had to let the feeling of regret go and I decided to continue with it but now as an open minded person.

Once, not too long ago, I did NOT read the rules of a forum as closely as I should have. I posted in an area where I was asked not to by the administrator, and he or she got so mad that I was banned from the forum. Furthermore, he or she fired off several bad ratings at me and destroyed my average, so I was not able to get any earnings from postings for over a month until I got my rating back up. Anyway, read those instructions carefully! It was an "innocent" mistake, but it is the prerogative of the admin of a site, blog, or forum to enforce their regulations and requirements. Other than that, I've had no serious issues in my blogging or online career, knock on wood.

Same here! I tend to be very distracted, and I started posting without paying attention to the rules, the owner started sending messages, that went straight to my email, and didn't check my email too, so when I finally checked I was already banned from it. Anyway, the owner was very picky with his forum, he was almost ordering what to be posted, so from that moment on, I just check who's the owner, to avoid getting subscribed to the same guy's blogs or forums.

I have had one other incident sort of like this, and the admin did contact me and gave me a chance to correct what I was doing, so I thought that was really generous and cool. However, the incident that I wrote about above did not end so well, and the admin came after me like it was some kind of personal vendetta or something with the ratings. It did make me more careful though; I will admit that. I did the same thing as you, and I just got into the posting, and so I got a little bit careless, I guess.

Tell me about it... I could feel the pressure of the admin, so added to the incident about posting and ratings, I got paranoid about that, and since that event I'm more careful when I'm subscribing to any forum or blog. I've also found admin that are great, they catch my attention by guiding me through their forums, giving suggestions, liking my posts, and that encourage me to keep posting on those. I guess I was paying the price of being a rookie, and hadn't found a good admin in that moment, but I learned my lesson and got more picky since then.

I have encountered a lot of good admins since have been frequenting these forums. In my experience, most of them just want to run a good thread, and they do not abuse their station or "power" that often or ever. Even though I was upset with the one who i think over-reacted to me, he or she did make me more careful and thoughtful about posting due to the punitive action he or she dealt to me. I still think i could be a better poster at times, but some days I am better than others, lol. I still consider myself a rookie and a newbie, but I am learning all the time as I go.

I regret not purchasing a vbulletin license sooner than I did. I didn't buy one until 2010. Before that I had our forum located on proboards, ipbfree, and then jcink. I was around when IPBFree had its mysterious closure. So after that, I moved our forum to Jcink. Then from there vbulletin.

When I was first starting, my blog topic and articles were more scattered and I didn't really know the specific topic I should be writing about. Now looking back, I wish I wouldn't have spent so much time writing articles that were only slightly related to my topic and also I regret it a bit because I would prefer it if my articles were more focused from the start so that my library would be more streamlined and organized. It's not such a big mistake, but I did spend a lot of time on those articles and I feel like I should have just used that time writing actually relevant articles instead.

Hey dear, I can relate to your comment here because I regret the same thing too, hate the fact that my posts and articles back then was just irrelevant and not coordinated.

I started my blog with a believe that I was going to make an easy cash just posting any sort of thing in your blog, I had waited and so that there was no hope for me to get that easy money, but now I have resumed my blog with more caution and I hated the old me who wrote those bunch of traps. They are really craps for real and cant even believe I wrote those things, they are very scanty too if you think you really messed up when starting your blog then you need to check out mine lol, I really messed up for real.

It's always important when you start a blog or online presence to know what you want to write about and more importantly - STICK TO IT. If the opportunity arises for a spin off or different avenue to be explored in terms of content, bring in a contributor to feed that audience.

Even though I haven't gotten much own blog or forum yet but the one mistake that I have made with posting on some forums and blogs is rushing too fast to post and probably to impress the blog or forum owner. This has turned to bite me back hard and ever since then, I'm never in any rush to make any post until my spirit tells me that it's time to do so now.

I made the same mistake too, there's a really good forum which is quite picky and perfectionist when it comes to trial posts and I wasn't aware that a single wrong spelled word would merit a rejection, and I aced all my articles except one, I spelled copies as copy's, my application was rejected.
