Why should I not hire you?

Interviews has been one of the bases nowadays whether have successfully met the standards of the CEOs, HR Staff, Director, Manager, etc. You need to be firm and proper whenever answering their respective questions. Some of the common line they ask is "Tell me about yourself." It has been on of the most popular questions during interview yet some people can't answer it correctly. Tell me about yourself statements are being asked by the company so they could get to know more about you aside from the facts that you have provided on your portfolio or resumes. You need to tell more about your achievements, your hobbies, you experiences that you have encountered. However, some companies do it differently by asking questions that are outside the box. Some of these questions are as follows:

1. What is your favorite color aside from white and black, tell me why you chose that color.Basically this question measures on how quick you could deal with a certain situation.

2. Describe any color without saying its real color. This question measures on how creative you can think. Your decisiveness is also tested here

3. What is your salary expectation? This is quite hard to answer but , in my opinion, the higher your salary expectation is, the more job opportunities and experiences you landed.

4. Define 'loyalty'. This is common question during interviews. This will attest your loyalty on a certain job or company. Make sure that you define the word itself  flawlessly.

5. Why should I not hire you? This is so far the most challenging question I ever encountered. Basically, you need to discuss all your weaknesses honestly. Then provide explanation afterwards if what else can you do do make it as your strength. There is no right or wrong answer here but you just need to be open minded and honest on what you are feeling.

"You shouldn't hire me if you wish to miss out on one of the better employees you'll ever have in this line of work" is what I'll say during interviews when applying for a job where I have a huge amount of experience with good amount of reviews from people so they'll know what they are passing up on if they don't hire me.

I really like this response! Short, sweet, and to the point - and it makes you think that you don't want to miss out on a fantastic employee who has everything that the company needs.

Yeah, but people should only say this when they can actually back it up with good experience and resume in the field, and also make sure that your tone during the beginning of the interview is more down to earth and just listing your skills that can be proven. Otherwise, saying this will just make you look arrogant and a bit of a jerk.

The title of this discussion is the exact opposite of the usual question of an interviewer of job applicants - why should we hire you. To be honest, when I was applying for a job, I was prepared for that question about the reason for hiring me so maybe that preparation had helped me to get hired. But if I were given that opposite question, that would probably baffle me. And maybe the best answer I could give is this - you should not hire me if your company prefers to be stagnant and you don't care for positive developments.

You probably shouldn't hire me because I'm so incredibly skilled and devilishly handsome that company morale would go down! People would be so intimidated by my awesome presence that they'd just think to themselves "Why do I try anymore?".

I'm joking, obviously. I'd say that one of my number one weaknesses is that I'm not naturally a team player. I prefer to do things on my own, and while I work well in a team environment, I would be doing so begrudgingly. This can either be a plus or a minus depending on the position/company.

DenisP,
Your post here made me laugh out loud. After that, I took a moment to stand back and really think about what you are saying here as an interview tactic. If one could feel out the interview committee, and realize that HUMOR is appreciated, then one could be humorous like this as a response to this tough question. This could show that one is cool under pressure and fun to work with. However, I can also see how reacting with humor could work against you as well depending on the tone of the interview because you do not want to come across as frivolous or superficial. Still, though, I appreciated your humor today while my workload is crushing me for real.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
I'm glad to have brought a little humor to your day! A little laughter can go a long way when just trying to get through the daily grind.

But yeah, on the topic of humor, it can definitely be used either to your advantage or disadvantage. You really have to get a feel for both the interviewer and the company before making your move.

Maybe I'm playing into stereotypes here, but for example, I'd probably be more inclined to crack a joke like that when applying for work as an artist at a graphic design agency as opposed to an accountant at some firm. My reasoning is as such because artists and creative types are typically more lighthearted and open to humor, while someone who revolves their life around numbers and paperwork is going to be more serious and professional.

As per my Qualifications, Experiences, and Motivation to do the work.
It is in the best interest of your company to hire me. And there is no reason not to hire me.

Totally, I felt exactly the same way. I was like, ok this guy has a lot of confidence, because if someone asks about why not hiring me, my mind will go straight to the moments when I get lost. For sure, I would like to have the strength people have here, I'm not really good with making up my mind fast, I tend to overthink and that makes me a slow thinker.

I am a very motivated and disciplined employee. I finish task ahead of time and I am very competitive staff. You should not hire me if you do not wish to make your company stronger by employing competitive and motivated staff like me.

The thing on why you should not hire me is that I can procrastinate a lot when it comes to perform some functions that are needed at the office. The fact that this is my weakness has made me continue to work hard towards stopping it in my life and I'm hopeful that you consider my cv and other.

I would say one top reason an employer would or could pass on hiring me, is because I multi-task to a fault. I often take on way more than I am capable of doing at one time. I normally get it done though, but I could make things easier on myself by not juggling so much at once. I just choose to challenge myself.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Well, I must admit I have never been asked the question, "Why should I not hire you?", but I can see why I should be prepared for such a question. I would not be COMPLETELY hones tin answering that question, but I would provide some context regarding what I know I need to improve upon in my professional and personal (to a degree) life. This is a question which gives you a chance to show your vulnerability with power and maturity. Like Judas2018 said above, I also tend to procrastinate to a fault and spread myself too thin, like too little butter on too much bread. This can be a detriment to myself and to my employer--I get that. However, by providing this information to the interviewers, you show them your honesty, and you also show them that management techniques, of a certain kind, could get your full potential out of you every day.

No one is perfect and employers know that. So if one were to ask a question like this, I doubt it'd affect your employment prospects unless it were something egregious like routine drug or alcohol abuse, skipping or showing up late to work frequently.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Exactly. i think that good employers realize that we are all human, and all humans have strengths and weaknesses. The goal is to extract as much productivity and quality FROM the strengths of your employees while minimizing the frequency of the weaknesses which can affect job performance. Anyone could get FIRED from the issues which you mentioned above, so there would be no reason to HIRE a person who admitted to such issues; however, even if an interviewee had these issues, i seriously doubt he or she would admit it during the interview. Everyone is trying to look their best in this type of situation and to present the best image of one's self as possible.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
Unfortunately, some people from the moment they arrive at an interview are obviously plagued by these issues. Some people can hide drug use or an alcohol problem, but those people are either not addicts, or maybe use socially just to fit in. But people in the thralls of an addiction, cannot hide their addiction. Even if their face doesn't tell the story, certain mannerisms or even obvious hand or arm marks will tell a potential employer all they need to know. This is especially noticeable when someone is waiting for their interview in the reception area. If your interviewer isn't watching you, their secretary or assistant, is.

This is a very challenging question and fortunately, I have never been asked such a question at an interview. If ever I have to answer such a question that I will point out all my skills and strengths and will try to convince the employer that I am the right person to do this job. I will also tell them about my past achievements and how I can use past experiences and skills to bring value to the company.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You haven't had the experience of getting asked such question in an interview but from your approach here with your response, I would say that you answered the interview question perfectly well. The question is simply requiring you to point out your strengths and reasons why you are best option to be given the job. So therefore, if you answered in such way, you are definitely getting the job.

This is how I response to this question "I can't see any reason why you shouldn't hire me, Please don't get met wrong, I'm not trying to be boastful flamboyant or something like that. What I am trying to convey here is that I am pretty confident that the set of skills I have is best fit for the job I am applying for. I am very exited to part of your campaign because my interest is so much related to this field, we will enjoy the best of both worlds if you let me in. I will be happy to go through the process of learning while at the same time I will be able to help your company reach its goals."

Do not focus with your weaknesses on this question. This is just a tricky question for them to find out if you have any doubt with what you are trying to get yourself in. you can play with your own word in delivering the statement above but the goal here is for you to let them feel how confident you are and how prepared you are for the job. Make them feel that you are not just about the salary but more on personal growth. I hope that helps.

gavinci13,
This is a very very good point here! I think that this really is the best way to handle this question, but you never know when it comes to interview committees--I've learned that the hard way over the years. It is hard to read these situations or to know "exactly" what these employee hunters are looking for or what they consider to be a good fit. I find that I definitely do better in person than I do on the phone with interviews, and I have gotten almost every job I have ever applied for as long as I was interviewed in person. However, i can't recall ever being asked the question regarding what my weaknesses are of why I should not be hired by a potential employer.

You shouldn't hire me if you don't want the best innovative mind on your team. If you're averse to lengthy and logical discussions about important company issues and you want to go ahead and implement your own ideas, you don't need me. If you just need employees who will do clerical works from 9 to 5, I am just too experienced for that and I'll get really bored. I want something more from my job and I'll certainly will not fit into the role.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is a great way for you to let the interviewer feel how confident and how you want the job so badly. (Let's say if you really like what you are applying for) If you really want to get in to the organization where you are applying then this shouldn't be an issue for you. Just simply tell the interviewer that you are pretty confident that you posses all the skills and ability needed to deliver the all the expectations from the position you are applying. Then point out what are those skills you have that will best fit for the job.

This question from my experience with several interviews simply requires you to tell the company the reason why you are worth being hired and not to answer on the negative part of yourself. I have seen someone who misunderstood the idea behind the question and started discussing some of his weaknesses that may affect his working for the the company and that automatically disqualified him for the job.

In my opinion this is an amazing question. I generally don't like interviews because I think most of the questions asked are stupid. Let's be honest there is no way you can measure a person's true ability, through a series of responses to vague general questions.

You shouldn't hire me if you're not looking for someone who has a great attitude, is willing to learn, can work under pressure and tight deadlines, can think outside the box and is a general workaholic.

For most modern companies your interview is a three month probation period. That's the only way (in my humble opinion) you can determine whether anyone can do the job.

To answer your question is simply like there, "If you don't want a worker that work hard, willing to learn all he needs to learn, talented and skillful, and willing lo work at any time, then don't hire me". Maybe it is a bit proud but looks good to answer with this.

You should not hire me if you don't want the best people to be part of your company. You should not hire me because I have those quality works which is lacking in your other employees. You should not hire me since I am as loyal as your dog and I am eager to learn and accept new challenges and I know that you don't want that kind of employees. What you want is just as plain as the bond paper without any content on it.

I think you should not hire me if I do not meet your standards or qualifications in the job vacancy that you are looking for. This is really a tough question for everybody that needs an immediate action or response. Applying for a certain job is really quite challenging because you will need to pass all the necessary documents and retirements in order to fill in the job. A company usually fails to hire a certain person if he/she doesn't possess the necessary skills that they are looking for and if a certain person doesn't fit with the organization.

First of all, I'm glad I have read this topic and suddenly a thought came on my mind. Honestly, your perception to the question is exactly the same as mine. I think the reason why they would ask that question is to test if you will admit your weaknesses and how will overcome those weaknesses in order to fulfill your responsibilities and duties properly. Also, it will test your reaction whether you'll get easily to be sarcastic to the question because if you are narrow-minded then probably you will ask back your interviewer why would he or she even ask that since every one wants to say something in order for them to get hired and not to discuss anything that would make the applicant unqualified for the job.

This is a tricky question some will think it as a positive answer but you need to give your weaknesses and ended up with a good answer so they can still hire you. "You should not hire me because I have weaknesses there are times that I get lazy, and procrastinate at my work but everybody has this kind of attitude it's normal to feel it sometimes. But I can assure you that I'm a hardworking person you just have to give me a chance to prove it and the company won't regret hiring me". Maybe not the best answer let's just hope the interviewer has a good heart. Haha.

I believed about growth and now I'm here to a part of the important growth of this company where I'm more than willing to showcase what I have and at the same time to learn. This is a really unique question and I can't say it's one that I've ever faced in a job interview setting. Similar to what some other respondents have already said, I think I'd go with something along the lines of "you shouldn't hire me if you don't want the best and most dedicated person for the job". If I'm going for a job interview, I truly believe in my skills, and that they will be an asset to a company - so I wouldn't want the organization to miss out on that.

I never encountered such question in my entire interview history. But I think they are using it to see how confident you are about yourself, how genuine, and how prepared you are to handle unexpected discussions Why should I not hire you?
One thing I can suggest, I guess there is nothing wrong about you telling the interviewer your weakness. Sometimes, we don't really know ourselves. Maybe they wanted to see how well you know yourself.
Don't be afraid to answer genuinely, they're evaluating you. They are experts who knows whether you are just lying to them or you are being true to yourself. As long as you backed it up with an answer like you will use such weakness to do better, or you will use your weaknesses whatever those are, as your inspiration and motivation to overcome them.

That question seems easy to answer but its not. It requires you to answer it with conviction and honesty. To answer that question you need to tell to the employer your advantages to other. It might be your years and lots of experiences may catch their attention. You do not need to sound cocky and very confidence. Just state what in your heart and sincerity to get that job and am sure everything will follow.

If I were to be asked this question, this is how I am going to answer it. "You should not hire me if you don't want a dedicated and a well-passioned team member in your company. I am not perfect, I may commit mistake and could give you some disappoinments that could make you think that I do not deserve to be in your company. But I am willing to learn from my mistakes and show you what I can do to make my work better and if you're not looking for a person with like attitude of mine, then you shall not hire me. If you're just looking for someone who is looking for a job to sustain his financial needs, then I am not the one you're looking for."

I love to read these kinds of article because it give new perspective on how human resource staff see us as a person who apploes for a job. Now I know why I was not accepted by the last company I applied to. Anyways, I have learned about job interviews is that the more honest and sincere we are the more they would see how qualified we are in certain job. I know the feeling if someone is asking you and your answers are too perfect, too safe and too scripted.
Now if I were to be asked why gou should hire me, I would answer that if your company wants someone who is not driven and who doesn't need work, then I am not the person you are looking for. Please Hire me! ????

You shouldn't hire if you think I really don't exceeds your expectation. If you are looking for someone who have a longer experience in the position I am applying then don't hire me. You really don't need someone like me who can interact positively to his co-workers. Lastly, why would you need to spend your company's money for someone who can be very competent and dedicated to his work if there is someone good at procrastinating.

You should not hire me if you want a yes man or woman, someone who does not think for themselves and someone who cannot work without instruction. I have given up on interviews and their ridiculous questions and expectations where someone wants you to fit in a box that is limited to their stunted growth and development. You should hire someone based on their potential and ability to grow and not as a fit to your current organization. Hire a ground breaker.

For what I've noticed to all interviews I have been with, there are some queue question strategy that hey are aiming for, besides that you should know all the details on your resume because they will ask you few question about - they want to know on how you can elaborate your answer, depend it and how fast you can think of on how you will explain your answer on the spot. They know people can learn but they make sure to hire the right person who can communicate right and worth it.

Why should I not hire you: In applying for a job that fits for a one person in any company, interviews are the first step and one of the bases in accepting an applicant. Every company differs in their own way of accepting employees. In call cebter agents, mostly prefer those correct grammar during the interview.
