What is the best time to write for you?

I've tried to cultivate the flexibility to put in writing anytime, as long I have a free time. In general, just because of my schedules, early to middle afternoon has been best time to write for me. Currently I've started within the afternoons, I'm still attempting to induce a sympathize with after I will squeeze in some writing time.

I think the best time for me to write is in the morning after waking up from sleep my brain will be very relax and the ideas will start coming with different style and a way to write what i have to write or even to correct anything i have written last night that needs amendment.

I feel you. Sometimes you're just very inspired after waking up. I read somewhere that this is due to your brain activity being more lucid. You have delta waves that are achieved during deep relaxation and sleep.

So it's no wonder that you're filled with ideas. You still have that lingering sense of overflowing thoughts.

I agree with you. I also write in the afternoon. I have designated my time in the afternoon for writing.

The best time to write for me is from Midnight to around 4AM. It's when my mind is very active, I really don't know why, but I write really slow during daytime, unlike when it's midnight and everything's quiet and the air is cool.

To be honest, I like to write when I am fresh. This is normally first thing in the morning. This, when I had my two cups of coffee, for me at that time of the morning I find that ideas just seem to flow. I'm also alone at that hour of the morning so It is quiet and conducive. I have a morning routine which I like to do first thing in the morning, after that its all systems go for me. I also enjoy writing at night when they are no distractions and I can concentrate on what I'm doing.

We're similar when it comes to our writing time. I wonder why we're so attracted to the idea of the world around us being asleep. Maybe it gives a sense of peace knowing that there will be no distractions. Writers prefer solitude whenever they're working on something.

Well, I always like to do most of the important things during the night. You are able to do your work in silence without being disturbed by anyone when you work at night. I am not able to wake up very early in the mornings although I know that it is the best time to work and also good for your health.

Both options has its ups and downs. Some people peak during morning hours. Others do well during late night. I'm okay with both as long as my surroundings is quiet and peaceful. After all, we need to focus on what we're working on.

It could be why people prefer writing during late hours.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I couldn't agree more. It's hard to stay focused during the day especially when it's so hot. Plus, the distractions you get from people at your home. What I always do is drink a tumbler of cold coffee as soon as I wake up no matter what time it is to get myself going.

Writing at night time is also nice and productive. It would feel like expressing what you have experienced throughout the day. It becomes full of emotions and feelings that it becomes deep. The disadvantage though is you can get sleepy or you'd be up all night just pouring out everything in writing.

The best time for me to write is at night. It is the only time that our house is peaceful and quiet. Kids are sleeping so I can focus on what I am writing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
As a parent as well I can totally empathize with that! Our house is crazy as soon as the kids are up until they get to bed, and there is always something to be done in the hours they're awake, whether it's prepping meals or doing laundry. Once they're in bed (or if I'm lucky, before they're awake!) is my writing time too.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I tried letting them watch television for a while so I can finish what I am writing but they always need something that I need to stand up. It breaks the momentum and I usually find it hard to get my focus back. The problem with writing at night sometimes is you get too tired from the whole day activity and chores that you cannot think about what you are writing and it feels like the bed is pulling you to just sleep.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I struggle with interruptions as well - I like being able to crank out my work in one long stretch when it's possible, and I end up getting frustrated if I'm having to stop and start all the time. I lose my train of thought too.

I envy people that seem to be able to work through interruptions with no problems!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

So many kids are noisy when they're awake. So I can relate with that. This is why writing during the daytime is really difficult if you have children beside you. You'd be lucky if they're the shy and quiet type.

There are two specific times that are very conducive to writing. One is late evening and the other is early morning when it is quiet. That is the best time to write. In early morning one is fresh and ideas flow.

However, I read a post from one friend that the internet or phone is not the best thing to do first thing in the morning. Another one said we should take one hour of the early morning to plan.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
It's a great thing to know your options. It's never easy deciding how to spend your time for writing. It's different for everyone. What's important is that we strive to write despite the unfortunate conditions. If we only did something when it's convenient, then we're unlikely to succeed.

Often there are times when we go blank. Whatever we do we seem never to revive. That is when we should take leave. We comr back refreshed and with new ideas. There is time for everything

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Yes, that's true. As much as we want to be actively working on something, there are times when we're not able to. So taking a break is more productive. It gives us time to recharge our creativity.

There's such a thing as burning out or overworking your mind. It's when you run out of ideas.

I agree with this. It happens to me when I am extremely tired. Take for instance after a long hard day when I have participated in some extremely tiring stuff and my body gives in. My concentration can disappear swiftly and anything I write will not be of excellent quality.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It has happened to me too. There are times when one does not feel like writing. You need to relax at such times.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes it is always advisable to rest if you feel that your body has given enough for the day and cannot afford to take in any more. It will be much easier to write what you intended if you are relaxed and calm rather than the period when you are so restless.

For me my best time to write is in the morning because my mind is still fresh and it is very calm early in the morning. There is no such disturbance during that time which makes me to focus on what I am doing. In the morning I can think well base on my previous experiences that is why this is my favorite time to write because I feel convenient about it.

When you have a very good long night rest and wake up in the morning, there is every possibility of having your mind well rested and in the right frame of mind to process the ideas that you are going to need for writing a high quality content.

Normally, I do have a very hectic schedule during the day which makes it harder for me to seat down and write during the day. It's why I choose early morning and night.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I feel like most of us do that. It's very convenient for writers to choose the time when everyone else is asleep. The world around us feels so quiet during this time. So I can definitely relate with everyone's preference to write during early and late hours.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It is calm enough for one to have the proper concentration which is important if you want to make a great piece. I know a lot of my friends who tend to rest or even sleep during the day and start writing during the evenings up on to the night.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's what works for them. Apparently, it's effective for most writers. Since a lot of us normally don't sleep at night, it makes sense to adapt our writing schedule to our nocturnal wakefulness.

I like to write at night after I've winded down from my day and am in a position to relax a bit. I find that my ideas flow easier and I'm more organized at this point. I'm usually really busy during the day, and that's when I'm the most creative. So I'll save my ideas from the day and return to them when things have slowed down for me a bit!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Relaxing our mind is sometimes the hardest part. It can be difficult to unburden ourselves of everyday stress. So giving ourselves ample time to recuperate makes us more productive.

We can't really write something if we're not focused. I usually drink lots of water in order hydrate my body. It helps with thinking.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Usually first thing in the morning is best (and most productive) for me. It’s like when the rest of the world is quiet and my brain has had a chance to relax it’s at its prime to get some great writing done.

Late in the evening is also a decent time for me to get work done, but I tend to opt for going to bed early and getting up early to optimize those morning hours instead.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Exactly what works best for me because I'm well relaxed in the mornings since there aren't any days programs that would interfere with how my mind works. Most times, if I don't get to carry out my writing in the morning, I would do it very late in the midnight around 11:00 pm.

Writing in the morning serves me the best, so I have taken that pattern with most of my writing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I'm sure more people are now awake at night. The internet has changed how people see night time. I'm sure you have that sense of stillness whenever you're working this late. I feel it once everyone else goes to bed and you can hear crickets outside.

Do you have a regular night time snack? I like having milk and cookies while writing. It helps calm the nerves.

- "Do you have a regular nighttime snack?"

I always have chocolate chip cookies available in the kitchen to munch along with ice-cold soda.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's cool. Like literally. You're drinking cold soda with chocolate chips. It's unique compared to the classic milk and cookies. Why do you prefer soda? I like milk because it's rich and fills my senses.

It quickly relaxes and brings me in the best state of mind for writing.

I am a 30 something old guy, so I am not into drinking milk anymore What is the best time to write for you?. Maybe I'll be a fan again when I turn 50 and drink those bone-building ones.

Drinking milk tends to make me more sleepy as well so it wouldn't help. For now, ice-cold soda for the win!

Oh, now I see. Soda does have caffeine in it. That will surely keep you awake longer. But for me, I don't feel so good after drinking caffeinated products. Especially, coffee.

I feel very comfortable writing very early in the morning between 7:00 am and 10:00 am. At this time, my mind feels very calm and at peace to focus and concentrate to do my best with putting my thoughts down.

I have written some articles during the day and it's good actually but I don't really devote much time to writing anything during the day.

I see we have the same point of view. But i don't say that being relax is okay when writing. I choose early in the morning because it was my active time. When I'am relax, I intend to procrastinate and do nothing. That is a danger for me. He he.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I can see how that's a problem for others like you. I'm probably the opposite. I need to be relaxed because I can't write whenever I'm feeling stressed. It's important for me to feel comfortable as I'm working.

This might be why I choose to write during odd hours. Like four AM in the morning.

The best time to write for me, is when the weather is cold. I don't know why, but I feel extra inspired if the weather is cold and usually I write blue poetries about cold weather or rain.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
That helps me quite a lot too. I think cold, dreary days are often the ones where you’re tucked up inside and end up getting plenty of indoor work done. As well as my writing tasks, cold days tend to be the best time for me to get chores done around the house!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I like how you said that. It's as if cold days are very productive. And for a lot of writers, they certainly feel inspired. You get the feeling that you're about to enter another realm. This reminds me of Narnia.

Remember how it was snowing when they arrived? Sometimes I imagine my own closet opening the door to a different place. But of course, I just end up with a few dusty old furniture left behind. LOL!

I'm glad that it's almost winter. Snowy backgrounds keep me writing. How about you? Do you also write more during the cold season?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I can relate. It's like we imagine ourselves to be in London or some place fancy. I don't know why. It's just to me, cold places feel very mysterious. So it helps with my imagination since poetry is all about mystery.

5 am is best time for me to write, I can be more idealistic because my brain cells are just restarted to function well. Writing early in the morning will energize the brain cells and will give you positive daily start until the whole day. The more you use the brain, the more it gives you brighter ideas.

The best time to write for me is anytime. As long as I am relaxed and I am in a good mood then I will be able to write a great content. I don't really have a specific time since it will always depend on how I feel on that day. I also find it helpful to write after taking my meal. It is not good to write when you are hungry.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree. It all comes down to the quality of our content in the end. It doesn't really matter what time we did our writing as long as the work is substantial. There are days where our minds are really exhausted and can't come up with anything and it's best to postpone our writing until we feel better for better output.

I'm really comfortable writing past midnight until dawn. I write and think faster and my mind is flowing with ideas and words in that time frame. Unlike when I'm writing during the day, I tend to struggle and it takes me a long time to finish a project or an article. I think my mind is not very creative in the morning and afternoon so the best time for me in writing is late at night or at dawn. That was my style of studying when I was a student. I would review for an exam in the early dawn when the house is so quiet and my mind is fresh. When I am writing a blog, I would prefer to write at night more often after dinner because I have to sleep earlier for I leave for the office before 5 am. But during weekends I can afford to spend time at 4 am for writing.

As for my personal experience, I really can't fully focus with noise around. I have to write something during the times when everyone's sleeping like 12 am to 5 am. Though some people become sleepy during this timeframe, my mind, on the other hand is strangely awake and working. It is like I'm having a graveyard shift in writing. I have a different clock than the people around me. As a result, they can't disturb me during my "working" hours.

For me the best time to write anything like article or blogs is during early morning because you have a fresh ideas and mind to think. So I prefer to write during morning.

The best time to start writing is when you're all alone, without any distraction from the outside world. I find that it helps with the concentration in writing. It helps to live alone or have a dedicated secluded space in the house for writing. Distractions just cause pauses in the writing process and that will affect the quality of your work.

Is there ever a best time? I prefer to write at night when it's quieter, but when I have some ideas I need to get down on paper during the day, sometimes you have to stop and just do it. Trying to have a routine isn't easy if you have things to do like laundry, grocery shopping and normal things that are time sensitive.

I find the environment you write in is more important because if it's cold or noisy it can be a distraction even with headphones.

I write anytime of the day. As a full time mom who also works at home, I am very good at multitasking. Whether I am washing the dishes or preparing ingredients to cook, my mind is always busy thinking about many things. There is always a dialogue going on in my head. Anytime of the day, when I am done with a particular house work, I can sit down and type what needs writing. I can't afford to have a fix writing schedule being an all around mother that I am.

I'm not really saying that right after you woke up but, in the range time of that because your mind is fresh and you could think a lot of better ideas. Mood and timing are two important factors for good writing. I usually choose late evening or early morning when every one is still asleep. The best time for me to write is during the evening or night because it has no noise during the evening and most people are sleeping, it makes my mind relaxed and allow me to think a lot of things.

Anytime is actually fine by me, as long as it's quiet and i have my coffee. But at the morning is a lot better, everything is new. I'm fresh, my thoughts are fresh. At night i'm kind of overwhelmed and tired because of what happens in a whole day, and my writing is better based on my environment. So having the sunlight and the warm feeling the coffee gives are the best feelings i want when I'm writing.

For me, it is early morning, when my mind is still fresh. But, at times the situation pushes me to write any time, so long as I off social media. Generally, different writers prefer different times to work, though, at some point, they all work even when they are not willing to work because of the situations they are in, or the deadlines.

At night, where everything seems silent, works for me. My mind is more capable of thinking and imagining things at night and I guess it might work for you too. But if you're sleepy already, then I won't recommend it. I am fond of writing at night or doing any paper work because it is the most peaceful time for me and it allows me to think freely.

Anytime, anywhere really, as long as I just had a good sleep. It doesn't even matter iif it's a full 8-hour or just 2, as long as I tricked my mind tha I just got rest, then it can think up things to write for me. Before, I always thought that writing at night is the best for me, my daughters are asleep and no distractions. But over time, I find their distraction mildly pleasing, at times even inspiring. But at nighttime, I also discovered that I write slower, I just want to sleep, and I find it boring without the annoying kids shouting, laughing, and running around.

I don't have specific time to write my thoughts. I write anytime whenever I have idea that flows continuously. I have difficulty to write a well organized idea. I grab each moment of having a good feeling and interest on a certain thoughts. I'm not a born writer but I can write depending on my mood and inspiration during a day. I don't force myself to write on something that I don't feel like doing.

The idea of writing when the inspiration strikes you is Utopian in nature. If all writers thought like this, they would never be any writing done.To an extent you need to schedule a time to write and just write. This is how authors get books written. I agree that you need to get enough rest, this helps alot with ideas.I have learned the hard way that rest is the opium of ideas. The best time to write for me is when I get up first thing in the morning. I have learned to get up early and commit the first few hours to just writing.

What is the best time to write for you: There is no best time for me, just anytime, as long as I feel being relax and at peace. As long as my mind and heart are at ones. As long as I wanted to write something.

Well, I work a full-time job, so I usually am limited to when I freelance write. Most of the time, I write at night. Usually for a few hours. I will also write on weekends. I usually have a day off from work as well, so I will schedule a time to write at that time as well.
