Do you think it's possible to sell a fiction ebook without being a known author?

I've often had thoughts of writing my memoirs, and I will, one day. Even if I'll never try to sell it, I will still write it. It's one of those things I really have to do.

However, a few weeks back, I started to write some fiction stories and I realized that I used tons of things from my personal life in my story. - And I enjoyed it. It was hard sometimes but after awhile, I truly liked it.

That being said, I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this. - Do you think it's possible to write such ebooks and sell them, even as an unknown author?

As I've never sold anything like this before, I don't have a clue about how one would do something like this.

Do you have any advice?

I have no advice as I have never written a fiction eBook or sold one.

My sister was an unknown author and she now has some published works which are available on Amazon. She also has some physical books that are published which I think is way cool.

The point in me saying that is that anything is possible and every well known author started sometime as an unknown.

I think go for it, the only people that fail are the ones that never try anything new and those that do try but give up way too soon, before the miracle happens.

That's cool Lynne, and yeah, I agree with you about what you've said about the "miracle" thing. Even if I understand that an unknown author can become famous more or less overnight due to a superb book, I still wonder how an unknown author can make it happen. What they need to do, to have a fair chance of scoring big so to speak.

I think they must do what everyone else does. Start at the bottom and work their asses off.

I read somewhere that Stephen King couldn't get his first book published for a long time, I can't remember how long but he got so many rejections. Most people would have stopped trying.

I have to agree that everything is possible and that you should write and publish it. It's just an eBook and you won't know if it would be successful unless you've tried it. Publishing it is easy what's hard is the marketing part.

I don't see why not! As long as you can publish your work on Amazon, for example, I simply don't see any reason why not to do this. Target high Fiction fans there are a lot out there looking for gems and new authors! Write it first, publish it on amazon and things like that, but also maybe give it for free on Fiction book online forums where people are discussing authors and work around the world.

If you get to gather around even a small community of readers and fans your on a positive road!

That's probably a good idea Cristian. To give away the book for free, to a targeted audience. - That way you would build a following and you will have potential clients during your next book launch. - The question is, would you write an entire book, and give it away for free, or would you write like a few chapters and give away that, and then publish the book on amazon for instance, so even the people who got it for free, have to buy it to read the entire thing?

I agree with you that as long as the story in the book is good, especially if it is about your passion, you should have the drive to sell it. Of course, you need to be creative in the way you promote your book because it is not good to lie about it. But you can perhaps flavor it with something like this line - if you enjoyed the Hunger Games then you would surely enjoy Hunger, Hunger because it is based on a true to life experience. Good luck.

It might be difficult at first, but there is no need to give up or feel discouraged. As long as the ebook is good, there is nothing for you to worry as then its quality will prove itself. It may take time, but after all every writer started off as a beginner right?

Unfortunately, I have never written nor read a fiction ebook, to be honest with you. But like any physical book, as long as the content in that book is good, you will manage to sell a lot of copies no matter who you are. You don't have to be a well-known author to sell a lot of books, there are many unknown authors out there who have sold loads of books to people. Think about all the famous book authors like Roald Dahl. Do you think he was well-known when he wrote his first book? People probably didn't know who he was but because of the good contents of his books, people bought it and that's how he became famous.

I definitely think that this is possible, but the book has to really be marketed well, I think, to make a breakthrough with any real sales. You have to find a way to generate a buzz around your fiction. What is original about it? How does it stand out? Emphasize this whenever possible, and promote the book through social media wherever you can. If one can get word of mouth going on something like this, the book will slowly start to sell and then hopefully, gods willing, it will gain momentum. In short, yes, I think that it is definitely possible, and I have bought eBooks of fiction and known friends who have had a great deal of success selling theirs.

If you engage an agent who is involved in helping new writers to publish their writings I am sure you could succeed. Initially money should not be on your mind but how best the world will get to know you should be your top priority. Unlike in the past I have come across so many new writers who are noticed thanks to the digital world.

As long as you are good at marketing yourself and have a box of clever ideas to sell your book - you'll do fine as an indie author. It's actually better because you can use it as an opportunity to hone your marketing skills. Then if you're successful in marketing your book and getting sales - you can expand to marketing for other authors as a new source of income.

Yes you can sell ebooks without being a known author. You can join facebook groups about ebooks of the said interest and use intermediaries to sell ebooks for you. Some sellers have access to a wide market and they are also experts. After selling few of your ebooks, you will be known to almost everyone.
