Print newspaper vs Internet news

Due to the widespread use of internet nowadays. It's been a long time since I have touched a broadsheet newspaper and tabloid. I usually get my news on television or in the internet.

How long since you have last read or touched a newspaper? Personally, I have more trust in the content in the broadsheet newspaper than the content found on the internet. Most of the journalist in these fields has integrity and I'm pretty sure that the facts that they are presenting are well researched and studied.

I use public means of transport and occassionaly I find a newspaper when I set near the driver. The majority of the drivers in my nation prefer to have a newspaper with them so that they can read as they rest waiting for passengers. There are also numerous times when I go to the bank and when the queue is long i pick a newspaper from the ones availed to pass time. With that being said, the last time I read one was today morning.

I feel very comfortable while reading a newspaper because its from a trusted source than internet news where false information can be spread, newspaper is mostly available in areas where patient is needed to be used to pass time.

This is so true my friend. With so many websites and blogs especially mushrooming each and every other day all looking for cheap publicity false romours are spread easily online. It is always wise to rely on a offline source of information.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MomoStarr16
Offline source is best information still. Online news has lots of fake and unreliable news. I still prefer the news that is in the newspaper.

When I land my hands on a great piece of newspaper one that I know comes from a reputable company that is I will always spend my precious time browsing through each page. You will get amazing content that is all true and credible rather than having to rely on hearsay.

I agree with you. Offline source is better still. News online has lots of fake and unreliable news.

I do blame Google Adsense for the flow of false information across the net all in the sake of making a cool cash but also they can't be blame too because the idea of Google wasn't to help circulate false info but to help blogger in one way or the other to support them.

I think Google should help remove false information or ban any blogger that post false new.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
The problem is that there are too many blogs nowadays and google would have a lot of work to do if they were to monitor what was fake and what is not. This is also difficulty when the news are localized and google does not know what happens in a remote town.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
That least strict law and warning should be imposed on those caught so that others can learn from them.

Yea, your statement is correct on that but google should try and monitor the once they can.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
They should obviously and I think that they try to do their level best. However, I also think that apart from the big towns and celebrities or public figures whose information can be verified easily or investigations can be done and the individuals interrogated there are other minor issues that google cannot manage alone.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

But offline source can be fake as well, I go with the online due to its accessibility.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is why it is always wise to verify any source before you can fully believe them. I do not like to take anything as hundred percent correct until I can verify that it is credible. If information is tainted then the whole story is corrupted.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you. Reading newspaper is better if its from a trusted or reliable source. There are many fake news in the internet nowadays.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I also agree as long as the point is based on a reliable and trustworthy news company. some newspapers are also fond of spreading fake news and also being used politically to castigate others and hence cannot be trusted.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The same is true with me. I have not read newspaper news anymore. Its because of internet news I can easily access.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's great that you have that in your country. We don't have it here in ours. You really have to buy a newspaper in order to read the news.

I have't seen a newspaper in banks for a long time, it is usually magazines and inspirational books now.

In short you prefer printed newspaper. As for me, I prefer internet news. I can easily access them myself in the internet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I can't remember when was the last time. I consume the news by watching news channels and reading reviews online. It's much more convinient than buying the printed paper. It is harder to tell which paper tells the truth since alot are just paid to sell. So I find it better to consume the news through the net and by watching the shows. That way I could scope for a wider view on the topic than just a one sided story printed every now and then.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think the internet share fake media more than printed media, now anyone can open blog for free and what people will be looking for is how to earn or draw traffic to that blog, that is when all kind of false attractive news will be sent online to make you click there link and earn.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's why I think the broadsheet is still the more reliable source between the two. Fake news are rampant online. Even people in the government are sharing unverified information. It's truly disturbing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jeffreyjose48
I agree with you. Internet news is much more convenient than buying the printed newspaper. It is also hard to choose what newspaper to buy because you don't know if they are really telling the truth.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I couldn't agree more to this. I prefer to use the television and internet as mediums to stay updated with the latest news. Of course, there are fake news in the internet, but so are in the newspaper. As citizens, it's our responsibility to ensure that a certain news comes from a trusted source before believing. I just think that the internet news has the advantage as it is up to date and more convenient.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I can't remember the last time I held a newspaper but I'm sure it's not that long ago. For me, personally I would like to choose the Newspaper however I am also concerned with the well being of our nature simply because alot of trees are being cut to produce paper every year. And so, I guess, online news are better not because they're much more credible, but because they're eco-friendly.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
Actually, the main reason why I don't stress myself with reading newspapers is because most times before the papers are published and printed out to be distributed by the newspaper vendors, I would have already read most of the news online. So, the question is if I have the time to re-read what I have already read online on its printed version.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
True. I've also experienced that a lot of times. I wasn't actually aware about it until I became a frequent reader of online news. I guess printing press/publishing companies only print newspapers for people who doesn't have time to go online (like the Jeepney drivers here in the Philippines) because I don't think they still have the passion to reach out to the younger generations who're always online.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Yea, printing press should keep on printing news paper because the world still have people who does not have access to internet and those old people who in one way or the other are not in the position to browse the net.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Exactly. Especially in third world countries where most adults at their forties and above don't know how to access the web or worse don't have an access to one. I guess reading news online is a common thing for first world countries tho because my brother in law is an Australian and he reads news articles online instead of reading it from the newspaper.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
This is a valid point. YOu can easily visit the site of the firm publishing the news and read what they will publish on the coming day's news. This is actually less tiring than having to rely on a newspaper vendor while waiting to know of some important information. However, you should know that they do not put everything online and sometimes they give you snippets so that you can go and purchase their paper.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Well I would say you are really funny but I love your decision because we need the trees and they are eco-friendly. I still feel more trees are planted every day.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Thanks mate. I also find my explanation a bit hilarious because it's uncommon for people to actually think first of the environment when making decisions because practicality will always be the primary factor when they make decisions. However, because I was thinking of a more original reply, I came up with saving the environment instead (but I'm genuine about it, I promise). And unfortunately, no, a lot of trees are being cut everyday compared to the small number of trees that are being planted. Also, even if we plant a lot of trees everyday, it would still take a lot of time for them to grow.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Yea true. It takes years or decades to grow a tree but it takes just some minutes to cut down a tree, your point is very valid because no matter the fertilizer used to grow those tree it cant grow the same way it is being cut down.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Precisely. It's actually disappointing and fascinating at the same time that scientists discovered/invented cloning already but can't make a fertilizer that can make trees grow faster. I guess they still can't do it at this time or maybe forever because honestly it's just too impossible. And so, I am really concerned with the number of trees we currently have on our planet because it might definitely be gone sooner than we are expecting because of massive developments that most developing countries are making/planning.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
You should also factor the fact that it is not all the companies who use fresh tree materials to make the papers to be used for newspaper publishing. There are others who rely on recycled papers and in the manner help to clean the environment.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jaybee19
Thanks for pointing this out mate. I wasn't actually thinking about those companies because it's more common for printing companies to use fresh tree materials and it's much more known to the public. However, yes, there are companies like this and they should be given recognition for their efforts on saving the environment.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

You've got a very good point. Imagine all the newspapers combined from all around the world, how many trees could be affected by them? I am not saying that I don't have a share of fault because I bought newspapers before. It's just that it's better to save the world while we can.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Thanks miss theresejane. That's true, I am also guilty about it specially that I am fond of burning newspapers during elementary whenever I and my siblings clean the open space in front of our house where a big tree is located and its dry leaves fall down - we always burn the dry leaves afterwards.

In this manner, one doesn't even need to watch television anymore but use their smartphone and laptop to access news online.

I haven't picked up a paper for a couple of months, but I do prefer them to online news. If I get the chance to read a paper I will and now there are so many free ones (Metro), but the writing isn't always that good and the news is a little trashy at times.

If I am in a coffee bar or cafe and there are papers I will read them there, and when I am in a hotel I will always read a paper. However, online news tend to be more up to date, and that respect can be more accurate.

Other than that though, I really can't recall the last time would have read a hard copy newspaper.

Ive last read tabloid or news paper is way back 2014, haha because since internet has been more accesible. I choose internet news so far in our country, news in big companies in print newspaper or even tv news are being manipulated of the higher posistion in politics. I know in internet news is having a high risk when it comes the fake news but if your a smart reader you can annalyze it and also youve been aware in it. In Internet news, sometimes you can see the real situation of news because of concern citizen is also inputting of news rather on the print news paper.

Using the internet and social media sites to access news are more efficient and less stressful but more straightforward. With just few clicks, I would have access to multiple news without breaking a sweat.

It often makes me think that most of the time, these print newspapers only get published once the news is almost obsolete! News is such a dynamic, changing thing that being able to access it online is the most convenient way to stay up to date.

I do wonder if we'll see print newspapers completely phased out within the next decade or two.

We are not really being frugal at home when I say that we get the news from the online version of 3 major newspapers. The reason is not the cost of the newspaper but the freshness of the news. The online versions usually have breaking news reports that are not in the printed version. But in fairness to the printed version, my husband still buys one printed newspaper because he loves to do the crossword puzzle during bedtime.

Meaning they follow what trends most, younger people of today are comfortable in reading through there smartphone or computer. Why would they care to buy printed news if they can easily access and read it by using internet. I get the point of, news online are sometimes seems to be a fake news. Well, honestly, due to today's generation and the modern culture of spreading the news... I'd prefer internet news. Why? It is because I find more legit information from the internet than the printed one. Also, in my situation, I can easily get news just using my mobile devices so it is also very helpful to me. And of course, I have taught my self on checking what's the legit one from aren't too and that is a good thing for us because not all news being delivered on TV and newspaper are all true. One cannot escape from fake news even if in the printed newspaper. Some pieces found in printed newspaper are sourced from internet news and there are news that are heavily influenced or cooked up to the benefit of certain parties. In this modern day, one is not immune to fake news even printed newspaper. The most important is that readers have to employ due diligence when making conclusion from the things he read.

Most of my news sources these days are online news based. The fact of the matter is that immediacy in receiving news is huge, and print sources just can't compete with online sources in that regard.

I also think that online news sources allow you to pick and choose the news sources that fit your needs. For instance, want more news about politics? Pick a news source that has a heavy coverage on that. Want news about sports? Again, you might pick a sports news related website, which has a more singular focus on that topic.

I prefer internet news, it can save the environment by preventing trees from being cut. And after reading the print the paper will lose value, might become a tool for drying puddles, could be a trash in the sidewalk, unlike the internet news where there is no need to dispose it. Another advantage is in the internet news you see comments of other fellow citizens.

I know this because I read newspapers almost daily. It's not because I buy them though. Some of my workmates always buy newspapers and when there is something interesting in the papers that isn't on the net, I'll take a look. The last time I read a broadsheet newspaper was when I was preparing for a newswriting contest back in high school. Ever since then, I relied on the internet to be updated on the current events. Print newspapers are harder to carry around and read compared to mobile newspaper sites which can display tens of thousands of articles and for free, at that. In addition, breaking news are easily added to the website's page, and developing stories may be updated real time, With the advent of microblogging sites like Twitter, news is spread at an even faster rate.

The problem here, however, is the spread of fake news sites. Hence, another important thing to do is to educate the people on how to spot non-trustworthy websites compared to verified, authentic ones, although this may take quite a bit of practice.

I buy newspapers every now and again, mostly because of the smell and the texture. I remember my dad drinking coffee in the morning and reading the newspaper. Whenever I touch and smell a newspaper, it reminds me of my father.

It's been a while since the last time I hold a newspaper. I do my reading on internet because it's more accessible. I come online mostly of the time. Information are still the same on the printed one. What matters most I get updated with the current issues and news local or international.

You have a great point. Whether you prefer the online or the printed one. What matters the most is getting the information from the right sources.

Print newspaper if you ask me. There are just some thing in life that you need to keep old-school. Print newspaper is one of those things. Very soon the internet will completely take over and all of those good old-school things will disappear. When that happens you will regret it.

I agree with you but some people argues that it will be beneficial to the environment since printed newspaper needs paper to produce but there are new technologies nowadays where they could use recycled papers for newspaper and can use trees for papers that could grow in 5 years or less.

Well our elementary school has newspapers where they publish best works written or drawn by students (aged from 7 to 14 years old). They also have a page with photography that are taken by the kids, riddles, jokes and trending news and movies. I never thought kids can be that good in writing poems! I love that they encourage them in that way. Unfortunately, these are the only print newspaper I use. As for the internet I read it only sometimes.

I love both really, printed newspapers are basically more on the news in our locality or our city it basically more on what's happening around me rather than all over the world, news in the internet are the mix of both local and international but really today I avoid reading the news especially the ones about killing, rape, killings. I just don't want to let that get in my mind and be negative towards life.
