Changing Your Writing Style

Changing Your Writing Style

Some writers find it hard to determine whether their audience will react well to the writing style of their choice. That shouldn't be a problem that bothers you. Here is something simple that could help you deal with it. When writing an article, you need to picture the readers (in your mind). You could go even further and print a photo of someone you think will be reading your article.

As you write, keep looking at this photo. Will how you write make this person lose interest in what you write? It's a simple way to find out whether you need to change your writing style or not.

That plan is unique, I have never tried such. But, In order to connect with the audience, I always ensure that I use words that capture the interest of my audience, by explaining as if we are having a chat and giving examples.

If your writing style is not communicating with the audience, then one needs to change as start writing in a way that the audience feels connected with the writer. Any writer should always remember to write for the audience, let them read and see the picture of whatever you are narrating in their minds.

I do like this idea, it is a very interesting idea to try out. I think keeping your audience in mind the whole time you are writing will be an effective strategy to make sure your writing is relevant and engaging to your audience.

Exactly! When you write especially if it's not something that you are probably dedicating to yourself, so it's something that is meant to be read by the general public, it's very important to keep them in mind, their preferences and understanding because it's the only way to offer them exactly what they would want to read. This is why it's always advised to have a small research done on your audience in order to have an idea of what they desire.

When writing, one needs to at least know who are the target readers or audience. That provides a very useful guide to writers in terms of level of technical language to be used when writing, the extent of depth of the analysis, the detail of the discussion etc. Those can help us to be more focused in our writing.

That’s definitely an interesting strategy. I do think that whatever you’re writing, you do really need to consider your audience - after all, that’s who will be reading your content. Sometimes using a literal physical representation of someone who could be your potential audience could be useful.

I agree with you, it is helpful too. I think if you think of the audience you'll relate to them more and will able to imagine things they like.

Thanks for this tip. I agree with you. We need to keep the readers in mind while writing.

Whenever you get to take your reading audience out of the context of your writing, then the said content isn't meant for their consumption anymore because what you are writing on would most likely be of no value or of any interest to them.

It's just like having goods to offer to your customers, when you don't consider offering or selling what they want, your business is at loss.

Usually I do not change my writing style. I am a unique person. I want to express myself the way I want it to be. No two people are alike. We vary in our writing skills. I just want learn from others but be myself always.

I agree with you on that. We should always give credit and consider our audience because they are the one who supporting our articles.

Yes, it is, tho changing it to a regular writing style that you used to before has never been so easy.

A very important thing to note. When you're writing an article who are you writing for?Who is your audience. Your audience will definitely determine the tone which your article will take. Many people miss this, and end up with an article that is all over the place. I don't really think you need to change your writing style. Your writing style will develop the more you write and as time goes by it will change on its own. I definitely don't write, the way I used to.

That's true, before writing something study your audience first, do a research and try to make it very understandable and simple

Spot on.

In order to write something that will resonate with your audience you have to know your audience.

In fact when creating a blog, this is the initial research one must do because your success could depend on how well you know your audience. Makes it even easier to determine the sort of content you'll create for this particular audience and how it should be presented.

Very well said. What you have mentioned is all correct. The main reason for us to be considered is the audience that we have. No need to change everything if your audience loves it.

This strategy is totally a must try for aspiring writers who are still seeking for the right style of writing to use. I myself is one of them and this type of strategy is a great help because it's really hard to make calculations/assumptions and etc. about how our audience will react about our content and how strong of an impact it could give to them, and so making a picture of someone or having a physical representation on print of our potential reader/s will definitely help us to evaluate our content better.

A writer develops a certain unique style that he can call his own over time. This can only be develop through experience, a writer must regularly write to develop his own writing style.

In my opinion a writer's style shouldn't be influenced by his readers only the content can be influenced.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
I tend to disagree a bit on that notion that a writer should not be influenced by the readers. If you have been following how things are going, you will agree with me that if there are no readers, then there's no need for articles. So, we should always have them at the back of our minds when we are trying to make any content for their consumption.

Every writer should eventually find their own "voice" that is unique to them. Even if you write the content to suit the situation, your own voice will be evident. When you try to disguise it it tends to show. I do like this photo strategy though as of course you still write so the reader is kept interested.

I think you hit the nail on the head here! Keep your own voice - otherwise things will sound unnatural and forced - but modify your content to be relevant to the situation at hand.

When it comes to writing any articles or contents, the most important thing to consider and observe is to ensure that your readers understand and appreciate your work and one of the most useful ways to achieving that would be to keep all your writing as simple and concise as possible. Avoid using ambiguous words or beating about the bush too long. In fact, use direct writing approach.

This is such a big thing when it comes to constructing an easy to read piece. I hate when it seems like people just use big words for the sake of it - it ends up sounding so contrived and becomes really hard to read. Avoiding jargon and being excessively wordy with things makes articles and other written pieces much more enjoyable to read.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

allyn2017
I agree with you, you need to consider the fact that not everyoneof your writer knows deep words, so you need to keep your word simple and easy to understand.

I think this depends on the genre because I change my writing style according to what I am writing. For my historical and non-fiction writing, I adopt a more serious and academic approach, yet when I write novels, I am far more descriptive and use dialogue more. Switching styles can be confusing, so I try not to work on projects that are very different because I have a mindset while I write.

Well, when you are writing articles or posts one has to definitely keep the interests and likes of his audience in mind before starting his work. After all, if you write something completely unrelated and out of context, no one is going to read it. Making your content interesting and entertaining will always ensure success in the form of likes and appreciation from your readers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
I agree that it totally depends on what they writer would want to read as well. It is not cool to make contents that writers may not feel that good going through after so much time that have been spent to make up such contents.

Although I have yet to try that trick of thinking about a particular reader when you write, I guess it can somehow affect your style of writing. But it will only be effective when there is a big difference in the reader. For instance, my niche is about dogs so most of my articles are serious and some with topics that are not for children. If I would be writing an article for kids then I would probably have a paradigm shift in my writing style because children would understand simple words and simple sentences much better than complicated sentences.

Sometimes when I think that my audience is not getting attracted to my article I usually change my style of writing so that I can jive their interest and gain their much attention. But I think it is just very rare for me to change some style in writing since I only do it whenever it is needed and so far most of my writings are already great which makes me more motivated to make more article writings.

Well if you think that your are not getting the attention you from the audience, then I think it is worth the risk changing your writing style. But if you already have too much attention and readers already love you for how you write, then don't change it anymore. Your writing style will serve as your trademark anf you will be known for your writing style or how you write. A lot of book writers are known for how they make stories. Though it may sound cliché the your readers can already predict your books, it is still a good thing because they know who you are as a writer.

It is really important that we consider our audience when writing contents. The success of your article will be based on the readers. In cases that you are writing an article for general audience, in my opinion it is still a good practice to change your writing style once in a while just to prevent sounding monotonous.

An interesting idea. I haven't really thought of changing styles yet, but I think your technique might work just fine. I think it might be a little challenging though for those who find it hard to conjure images of their head. Especially random ones since we would be imagining our audience, which I would assume is the first reason why we would be changing writing styles. But I still think that it is an interesting idea, one worth trying if one ever decided to change writing styles.

Changing your writing style is not an easy task to do, because changing it when you are used to it can make your brain confused.

I agree with you. There is also a tendency that instead of making sure that you build the content of what you are writing of good quality, you'll be focusing in your style instead. You'll lose focus on the main reason why you're writing.

It is always necessary to be aware of the people that we are making contents to. I have come to notice that while it is not that easy to see how they will be reacting when reading our contents. Ensuring that we make our contents simple and fun should always be paramount for us.

My boss once told me to write as if I was having a conversation with the person. If a discussion that was either boring or too complicated, the person you are talking to will lose interest. It's the same way with writing,

Sometimes I change the way I write after I have read some other writer's works especially when I'm reading a novel or a fan fiction genres during my spare time. I study how they write and it somehow amazes because I find it really good. That's why it inspires me to copy a bit of their writing style to improve my own. Well, I'm not really at copying the entire style but at least he gave me an idea. Also, it inspires me to change my writing style because they are good writers and they have already attracted so many readers.

I would say that it's far possibly which you already have a defined writing style and which you don't necessarily need to put a label to it. Practice alone will deal with your development. But, in case you aspire to grow to be a professional writer it is essential to get comments from your readers. Ensure that you are conveying your message throughout. Get assist from writers and editors. Surround yourself with professionals and you'll learn greater each day.

Sometimes it is very hard to change our style in writing if we are already used to the previous one that we are using because it might lead us to be uncomfortable in doing some of our writing. I think I may not change my style if possible since I want to show the true I am without the need to change every detail just to be recognized or be given an attention.

Can't see the point of picturing some one when you are writing. Is it some kind of ritual? Just wtire the way you want and see if people will love it or not. People have different kinds of taste. So it is hard to change your style jsut for a certain person.

I actually think it's hilarious to print a photo of someone that represents your critique or audience. But, I find it interesting. Well, as a writer, you should always think of your audience, if you only think about yourself, then, I guess, you can just continue to write and never publish it, keep it for yourself.

Brilliant advice.I think this is a common mistake we all make especially when writing on our blogs. Normally most blogs are to promote a product. Sometimes we never really take into consideration that our product sales will depend on our appeal to our audience. We never define our audience and do the research into what they are responsive to. However this is a learn as you go area. There is not that much information on how to do this.
