Quality At A Low Price

Starting out as a freelance writer, I had to set low prices in order to get customers. I knew that my work was much better then the low prices that I was being paid per article, but I needed to make a name for myself. After I started getting more orders, I had one client that begged me to keep my prices at the very low price. I did not need to, but agreed that since they were a loyal customer I would keep writing for them at the original price. This lasted for about 6 months. I then started getting so busy that I did not need their orders, so I decided to cut them. This last for only a week before they were begging me to take them on as clients again. They had agreed to pay me what others were paying as my content was high quality. So my advice to others is if you are a high quality writer, do not be afraid to ask what you are worth!

Yes this is very true. I know that some do not want to pay a lot for a writer, but in reality, you get what you pay for. If you are willing to pay more, you will get much better quality.

But this doesn't mean that those that charge lower at of low quality. Some of them are just trying to earn instead of staying idle on the internet.

I have to agree, most if not all clients nowadays are looking for the cheapest priced writers and that drastically lowers down article prices. Even I got the surprise of my writing career when someone I won't mention the nationality but its in Asia and bossy at that, wants me to write a dozen articles for different topics and to submit it to him and he promises to pay for only those articles which he likes. Get this $0.80 a pop for a minimum of 400 words per article on hard subjects like finance and economy. I told him the price was too low and the terms are so one sided.

Yes if you know your work and you are confident to your work don’t be afraid to ask want you want. Show them that the money they will pay you is worth it. Struggle is another word for growth. Give it all what you got and they will believe in your capacity.

I think once you build up a good review base, you can raise your prices a bit. Clients know you do good work so they won't mind paying a little extra. Also be sure to bundle your services so your buyers can get more bang for their buck. As for quality at a low price, well sometimes you can get good quality at a low price in terms of work done because the person in question is just starting out. Other times though, the person in question is not very talented and can't charge a high premium for work because buyers would be furious and feel cheated. It's a crap shoot really. Which is why what I mentioned at the beginning of my post is important, at least 100 or more good to excellent reviews from previous clients.

When I was invited to provide content for a forum, I didn’t mind the contract price whether it is low or not because I was flattered. That offer means a lot to me because I wouldn’t be offered a writing contract if I am not really good. Anyway, even now, I still see myself as an ordinary but diligent writer and I don’t want to be swell-headed just because of one contract. And with the price, I still wouldn’t mind as long as the offered amount is not absurd

In the beginning, we have no choices than to charge lower prices. However, once your customer base grows and you receive many positive reviews then it will be wise to increase your prices. If you prove yourself to be a good writer then people will still hire you even if you increase your price.

I have an offline business and I have some regular customers. For me understanding my customers and satisfying their needs are the most important things. If you provide an excellent customer service then many customers will come back to you and they may encourage others to do business with you. Due to rising costs, I had to increase my prices but I didn't lose many customers. Many customers knew that they won't get the same service elsewhere and preferred not to switch to other companies.

I think it all depends on the Topic and the Writer, I just finished writing 5 articles for $20, that's pretty low considering the quality of the finished articles but I had a good time doing it, it's for a children's book and it's all about zoo animals, so I guess your thinking its easy right? Well it's not because it's for 2-5 year olds so I have to use baby talk and super simple words to explain things. I really like doing it and I hope I get more jobs like this.

I agree with you when we all start writing as newbies, we all take what we can get in order to get customers and build loyalty. When we get to a point that we have the experience and the receipts from our work, we can then command the prices that we are worth. I am doing the same thing and raising my prices as I get more clients. The more you write the more you improve and the more you search for higher paying clients.

I also agree with this. As beginners, we should be more acceptable that we are paid at a lower price. That way, this can help clients to see your potential. I believe that the more good articles you write, the more improvement it adds in your skills. Once you know your true potential, you also have the right to ask more. Just make sure that you have good content and customer satisfaction. This can help you gain more clients in the future.

I agree with this so much it hurts. In this case I agree with the fact you were truthful with your client. This is truly a matter of value. That's why they are different types of freelancers. If you want cheap you will never get good quality. You will then come back and complain that good writers are hard to find. They are top writers that command high figures for their articles. I know when you are starting out you can't afford to pay much, but once you can prioritize quality and this comes with a price tag attached unfortunately for you and fortunately for writers.
