What do you think is a fair and decent price for an article?

Articles is usually one thing that buyers are looking for on a regular basis and that obviously makes the providers to compete against each other about the clients.

They provide longer articles, better quality or lower their costs. - And that's how business usually are. One provide something for this and another one want to do business in the same niche and provides the same or even something better for a lower cost.

That being said, when it comes to articles one can find articles for as low as $2 and I've seen articles for as much as $300-$400 too. From "average" article writers. And when I say "average" I don't mean a newcomer, but the people who offers an article for $400 aren't Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates either.

So my question is. How much would you be willing to pay for an article and how much do you believe is a decent price for an article?

Measuring the value of an article through financial figures is one of the trickiest problems in the world of writers. After all, how does the "price table" (let's put it this way) are created? How can the values that are present in them be convincingly validated for the authors and especially for the public (who are the people who will buy the works)?

These values are printed in abstract arts (after all, we're talking about words), so... How do you define the value of it?

The question remains open (at least for me, of course).

If the topic is difficult and has a ton of research and the article size is over 1500 words then I'm willing to pay 50 bucks at the most. If we are talking about articles that also include certain statistics that can be found nowhere else its worth can be very high, something out of my budget, certain case studies exceed 1000 bucks and depending on who is doing the writing can go even more than this.

As for what price my articles are worth, well depending on the kind of research I'm required to do and the number of words I need to write, the best article I've sold was 100 dollars, that's not bad if you ask me, but it took me something like 16 hours to complete and I think it was fair enough.

Thank you for your response. In your specific scenario you stated, you worked for about $6,25 per hour. I will probably make another topic about the hourly rates, but just because I'm curious, do you earn more by providing shorter articles or longer ones? If you go with the $ per hour.

Well am I buying the article or selling it? LOL

I am currently paying around $20 for 1500 word articles. I have my favorite seller that writes for two of my websites and I am very happy with the price and the quality of the articles.

I would happily pay more money but the thing is that I am not in a position to pay more right now.

If I was writing for someone I would charge a lot more, simply because the value when I write for my own websites is a lot more for me than for when I write for someone else. I have had a few people ask me to write for them but I said no to most of them.

If I am being paid to write for other people then that is money and time I am taking away from my business.

That is SO true!

Unfortunately, tons of people I've been in contact with doesn't realize that. They seem to see things from their point of view, at all times. If I spend 1 hour doing "nothing" (according to some potential clients), which basically mean that I do something related to my business, that's a 1 hour investment.

If someone wants my help during that hour, then I'll need to get paid. Especially as I won't invest that hour into my own business.

I think it depends on the writer's skills and how muhc he is willing to compete. I know that my prices are average; there are writers who charge less but I know that they are either inexperienced or non native english. Then there are writers who charge more. I know that I could charge higher rates, but I do not want to end up being uncompetitive. I increased my prices marginally, by $1 or $2 lately, just to try to make up for the fact that I was being too busy, and I still felt a bit guilty to be honest.

It depends on the content and the seller sometimes. I mean I have seen sellers before that have asked for just $5 for 1000 word articles which I thought was an amazing deal. Other times I have seen prices go up as high as $50 but most of the time these sellers were extremely reputable and their content was great. If the article requires a lot of research and is extremely wordy then it should be somewhere in the range of $40 to $50. But if it's just a general article on a topic like search engine optimisation and isn't too wordy then I think a price like $5 is pretty good. It also depends on how good your seller is. If they make a few grammar and spelling mistakes which you then need to fix after having it sent to you then a price like $5 is fair.

Realistically prices for articles are down nowadays. That's why I'm contemplating to do other online jobs. I'm getting fed up of bring paid $0.80-$1.60 for a well made medium length article. I'm moving to copywriting it pays better and it's shorter to write.

In coming up with an original article, many factors come into play. It is these factors that I, on my part think that should be considered, when coming up with the price. The time, money and the resources involved in the research, should be the key factors to consider, according to me, so that you do not have to give more than you are receiving.

One of my mentors in this industry, also told me to consider the price the buyer is willing to offer, in the case of bidding for an article. This is because, if you bid too low, the buyer might consider you desperate, in some cases, and therefore will have nothing to do with you.

Last but not least, when buying an article, I would consider the relevance of the article's information. As in, how much in a scale of let's say 1- 10 does it answer my questions?

It depends on word count, niche and various other factors. I usually charge around $20 to $25 per article. But these articles are normally for people who want our services lent to them for pieces that normally wouldn't appear on our site or be a part of our regular article cache. I charge an extra fee for social media promotion of the article as well as main page placement.
