Have you written any controversial article?

Greetings to every member of this community of writers.

I have to make this thread as a result of the discussion that I had with my mentor in writing some days ago where he was telling me that he is never going to spend his time writing on any topic that will bring controversy.

There are topics such as religious topic that I have written in the past as well as other topics as well. However, have you taken out time to write on such topics or are you of the opinion that it is wrong to do so?

I have never written a controversial topic even way back before. So many controversies issue around the world that might be tackled and I believe that when you gonna right this kind of sensible issues, you should have a proofs and facts so that in case someone questioned your thoughts you have a reference that you could present.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
It is the proof and facts that is giving a whole lot of issues to those that always decide that writing about it is the best way to get traffic. I have always believed that you should always verify your facts before going ahead to present such works to the public.

I have not experienced this either. You are putting yourself in a hot seat if you write controversial topics. I agree that there are many religious topics that are controversial. I would just avoid to write about controversial topics.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Well, it is all about ensuring that you are stating some facts when you write, lest you will be having a whole lot of questions to answer when being sued to court. What I always try to do is to ensure that I do everything to remain on the right track when making such contents as well.

There are books that are very controversial. Its because they wrote about controversial things. To avoid being controversial, you need to think and write very carefully. Make sure that no one will be hurt by your article.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Me too. It's better for us to focus on more positive topics. There are people more suitable for controversial articles than us. These individuals have a better grasp about it than most people. And they possess the necessary skills to navigate the issues without making things worse.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Yeah why dont we write something that educate people than digging controversial topics that may lead you into trouble. Controversial topics need a facts and supporting documents that will prove the issues itself. Very complicated to write and talk these kind of things.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's so true. Often times you just end up exacerbating the issues. Better to invest our time in more fruitful endeavors. Stuff that benefits everyone in uplifting ways.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Yes that is right. Write something that would make the world like still a better place for everyone. Positive things should we do more often and practice it regularly in order to have a happy life.

Goodness comes in all forms. So let's make good use of words and creative vocabulary to inspire others. So much beauty is to be found in the world.

Writing controversial articles is practice of knowledge and restraint. It's only for those with the proper skills to handle really well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Yes, it's very sensitive. You'd need to be incredibly prepared before even considering it. And by the time you do finish writing, you must be emotionally prepared for negative feedback. This kind of topic is not for those with fragile egos. Expect disagreements and you'll do fine.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625

That is very true. For sure after you publish that kind of topic, many people would react sometimes in favor sometimes against to the topic. So like you have said,be prepared for the reactions of people.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Also, it's important to be prepared for the stress. So much turmoil is associated with controversial issues. That's why it's recommend that we stick to positive topics.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
And that is why I dont like it. Sometimes it is very offensive to read. I dont like to stress myself reading controversial topic or even writing about it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I agree. Stress makes life less enjoyable. We deserve so much better. Life's too short to waste on stressful things like controversial topics. Let's just write positive stuff that makes other people happy.

We'll feel more fulfilled that way.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Wenkx03
I agree with you. Better prepare for the worst case scenario. And be ready for the feedback of people included to your article.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That is right. There are many controversial topics. Just like the topic about divorce, gender preferences, death penalty, etc are among those topics that are being debated in our congress and senate.

Another controversial topic today in the Philippine politics is about the draft of federalism made by Gloria Arroyo. One thing that I really hate about the Philippines aside from traffic, poverty and inflation is that the politics. Philippine for me has one of the dirtiest politics around the world.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
I agree with you and you need a strong argument or opinion to write this kind of article.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Basically yes you should research a lot in order to prove what you write is base on factual and not fiction or just hearsay and even fake news.

Controversial posts normally bring a heated discussion. You may find yourself overwhelmed by the responses. It is better to be forearmed because a forewarned person is a forearmed one

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
That is right. People keep talking and debating a controversial topics that whats it called controversial meaning people are divided into what they are believing for. Controversial topics are always a cause of arguing and debating.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

stbrians
Debating and arguments turn it into s heated debate. I love heated debates.

One problem is when people begin using words like, .."and that is final" or "end of discussion". They cut of the beauty of a discussion. Others become abusive.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Many people love debates. In this area you could say all relevant facts about the sides that you are believing for. I remember one local channel who has a debate program for the students who is taking up Law course. They are battling to be a winner for the current issue that is happening now in our society. It is good exercise for them this kind of competition because it enhance their capability to debate. That was an inter universities competition.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
I agree with you, so if you write this kind of article you should have strong argument or opinion.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Argument should be needed if the public needs want to know more about the authenticity of what you have written.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
Yes, indeed. Because your credibility as a writer will be tainted if you write something that is false and not validated.

I tend to keep away from controversial topics. In many instances the sources you find for the story tend to be either biased or full of romours. In the end it can be a waste of time or even tarnish your name. However I cannot keep away from a lucrative opportunity when I have the sufficient and irrefutable proof.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Some sites that we are trying to get our information from maybe trying to tarnish our images and it is always pretty difficult when we are unable to handle the things in the best possible ways. I have written some time in the past but I got proof that backed everything up then.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

jetselle
I agreed. I personally stay away from writing a controversial topics not because I dont want to but because I am scared of what will be the outcome and can lead to ruining my reputation. I rather write a non-contreversial topics because it is the peaceful way to share my thoughs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
You can also easily do expansive research without raising a lot of questions for the non-controversial topics. A lot of topics that tend to be less controversial will have data that can be proven easily and sources found will be credible. Peace is also associated with the less controversial articles since less scandals will come your way when you publish such.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
The funny thing is that people love watching. They may not join in on the controversial discussions, but they sure do enjoy the aftermath. They like a good dose of heated discussions. I don't know why.

This could be the same as watching boxing. Only instead of using fists, people use words to fight each other.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

In my country, we have a saying, "the tree with the most mangoes attracts the largest number of monkeys". It simply means that whatever has a lot of controversies will attract numerous critics and attention. it is, therefore, no surprise that such is witnessed.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's wise. I like how it's worded. It sounds so simple yet full of wisdom. I'm just bothered by how people seem to enjoy seeing controversies unfold.

Others even seem to join in just because it's trending. Not because they have something meaningful to share.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
Hahahaha yeah my friend this is so common. whenever people get wind of something which is trendy and scandalous they make it trend even more by sharing or commenting about it. Others just view it hence adding the number of views it has and it becomes even more trendy.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Yes, it seems that no matter what you do, you're somehow contributing to the issue. It's mostly these passive viewers and listeners that add to the bulk of the attention.

It's been a trait among us humans since the early civilizations. Controversies spark scandal and distrust among peers. And those who like to manipulate things will add more to it for fun.

This continues until it becomes something out of anyone's control.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
The worst of it is that such scandals rarely have an ending. They just continue to unravel until finally, they eat each and everyone on their way. This is the reason I always prefer to never make any unverified comments about such stories.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's wise of you. The same can be said of controversial articles. It's best to leave them be and give way for more important matters.

There's so many topics to explore in life. Let's not limit ourselves to such perilous and destructive discussions.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
I agree too. it is better to focus on topics that give us a chance to learn something fresh rather than those which focus on gossip and information that will not be beneficial over a prolonged period of time.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
A good advice I've heard is to stay away from news. Limit your exposure to media to the bare necessities. That's because so much of our anxiety may come from information overload.

And the fact that most of what we read and watch is about unfortunate events. Such as tragedies and calamities.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Youngshark
There is a lot of information floating around and a lot of it only contributes to overflow in your mind. wise advice by the way over there on the avoidance of news except when there is something important that one has to look out for.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I'd like to reply more. But I'm afraid the text appears to be getting smaller.

You'd be surprised by how powerful a simple change can be. Many people have found their daily lives to be significantly less stressful after watching and reading less of the news.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

nrnlss
I agree with that sayings, a lot of people are really easy to react on things that are hot and controversial.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I understand your reasons and it is really rational. And a lot of people think that it is better to stay away from Writing controversial articles

I don't intentionally pick controversial topics, but I can usually tell when I've broached a controversial topic. It's met with dead silence. Nobody wants to take it on! LOL.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I can understand why. It's either people are too afraid to get into debates or they're intimidated by the subject matter. I don't really participate in controversial topics. But sometimes I read the comments and conversations if they seem positive.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That tends to be what happens! Either no one will say anything, or a bunch of people will jump in and tell you off - and put forth their points of view!

I did write a somewhat controversial article before. The subject was Gays and the Third Sex in general and I quoted some Bible verses and it got the ire of a lot of gays.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
This is the kind of articles that can go viral. To me, there is nothing wrong with discussing on such topics as long as what you are doing is to drive traffic to your blogs. While many of the gay community will hate you, most of them will still want to read what you are writing on the blog.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
Many will surely respond from your article. It is very sensitive and controversial topic to be discussed and many would react differently when your writings against them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I don’t really think I have, but I do think in this day and age it’s incredibly hard to please everyone. I can guarantee that with content being written online, there’s almost always a troll in the comments section who will write something that disagrees with your stance or flat out gets personal and offensive. It’s the way of the world these days.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
This is another point that we can talk about this as well. No matter how lenient that we try to be with our writing, there is always that situation where some will tend to disagree with us on some matters.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
That is really true. Nowadays really hard to please somebody for a certain issues especially the controversial issues. You need more proof to justify your points of view before they would agree on you. I think that is the effect of social media in our society. If the fake news about controversial topic would be posted in the social media many people would believe them instantly without knowing the real facts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mdayrit
Haven't written any controversial article yet. But I believe that it is hard to write one because everyone have different opinion on a matter. Not everyone will agree with what you write. Of course they can give their own opinion but most people who don't agree can sometimes be hard on the writer and take it personally.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
The truth is that even when you are writing not to hurt people, you will still see those that won't really care about it and criticize you. So, to be free with the way that you write is the most successful way to go popular. This is what you should be targeting as a writer instead.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I never tried writing a controversial article. That is hard since you might offend others. Although there are so many controversial topics that you can discuss, I prefer to stay away from them. If I am going to write this kind of article, I will just keep it or share it with close friends or family. People who know me very well. But for now, I want to have peaceful discussions with the members.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Yes, I’ve never sought out to write something controversial either - but some things just seem to bring about controversy or people’s frustration without you even doing it deliberately!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mark8625
It is very hard to tackle. You need to gather many information regarding to the subject issues. That is why I avoiding this thing to write. I would rather enjoy the safe topic than joining into sensible issues that would make complications in the end.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Yeah, I have followed some successful writers for long now and the actual truth is that most of them have taken out time to write controversial contents in the past not minding how some people feel about it. However, we all have personal opinion and decisions to make as writers and I have to respect yours.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I like to critique controversial happenings in my surrounding but I have never write a topic regarding into that. It is simply because it is so complex and I am sure that many people will react and judge my work and I don't want that to happen. In order to do so I just write light handed topics that are not related into things that is very broad and has a potential to make an argument.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Just imagine that you have a blog and how many reactions that such topics will generate for you. As a blogger, you should be looking at the bigger picture of traffic to your site and not the other way round. The traffic is all that matters.

For me controversial articles includes topic on religion, politics and sexuality. I do my best to avoid those topics in my blog sites for some reasons.
First, it is so sensitive, I dont want to hurt other's feelings. Second, I believe that I am no expert on those three topics so I really dont have the right to discuss anything from that. Third, controversial posts may encourage discrimination ang being divided.
In my blog site, my main purpose is to inform, inspire and give positivity. If I will focus on controversial content, my site might be a toxic place for my target audience.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
I love that you look towards positivity on your blog! It sounds like an uplifting blog to visit - so many people these days seem to focus on the negatives in life so your blog sounds like a refreshing change!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Well, among the three that you mentioned, I can confidently say that there is nothing wrong with writing on politics. I mean when I take a look at how things work out in the political space, I have come to realize that those you write against today may probably become your friends tomorrow.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I might have, without me knowing. When I write something, I try my best not to offend anyone regarding the things that I am about to say but also try to stick for what I believe is right and moral. The thing is, each one of us has differences in values and opinions and will not ever be in the same boat regarding specific topics. I advise my readers always to take what I say with a grain of salt.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
When you are making contents considering how moral that they are, you may still end up hurting people such as when you write on sexuality. The fact is that people may attack you when you make such contents, but it's no big deal as this is one of the ways to become popular.

I have. I love controversy it is the ultimate click bate. I like to write about the nexus between religion and poverty. My Country is very religious, 70% of people are said to be christian. In my opinion many religious leaders use their position to solicit money for their congregation and instead of empowering them I think their message is one that does not provide self-esteem to the congregation. That's why the pastors/priests get richer and their followers poorer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
That’s an interesting point you make there, that ultimately controversial topics seem to bring in the page views. One online news site I read seems to deliberately create controversial headlines in order to get viewers and it seems to work!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Click bait is what most of us that are bloggers look at. I have noticed that for us to get people clicking on our articles, we should always try to make it controversial an watch as our blogs get popular in the process! That is the goal, though some have contrary opinions on this.

My father once told me not to start any cause that will hurt other's feelings. Even debates he doesn't want me to joined because he said no one will win to any debates, they will only believe what they believe and that's what they will only fight for. Everyone of us has their own beliefs, different point of views, because on how we are raised with our family. So I make sure once I write something, I make it fair and neutral for everyone.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That’s very sweet and considerate! I wish more people thought like that and didn’t deliberately seek out ways to antagonize others. Being nice is important!

I consider myself a conservative writer that I am careful in selecting the topics that I will write.

One blogger has the temerity of writing controversial issues like gay movement, politics and religion. She is a popular blogger and was appointed by the president in his cabinet as assistant secretary. It's all because of her controversial blogging.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is another thing about making contents that hinges on controversial issues. You may end up getting recognized by the top officials all because of this, but the other side of it is to ensure that what you are doing is always to benefit everyone and not about to be top biased on the topic.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Controversial articles are interesting to read. However, I prefer to read this kind of content than writing my own opinions. I don't know how people will react or respond to my article if this is my topic. These topics might include religion, politics, sex, and gender and these can lead to a very sensitive conversation or debate. As much as possible, I want to avoid these content and focus on lighter issues.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
If you are always happy to read this kind of articles when made by other writers, then check how it is going to be when you are making this kind of articles. I have noticed that for us to have serious traffic to our blogs, we should always try to make a mix of controversial articles.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have never tried to write controversial articles because I don't want to be the center attraction of the people. Just like others, I am also very careful in every article that I would make since I don't want to be put into a hot seat where people would draw some attention with me and with my writings.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It depends on the type of writings that you are focusing on. No matter how you try to make your works look lenient and appealing, you will always see that situation where some people will still criticize. So, try to focus on doing the best to make works good with a bit of controversy as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Writing something controversial and writing about a controversial subject more so taking sides on a debatable topic has its bad side and sometimes it could even ruin your reputation. I make it sure to stay clear of such subjects but there are a lot of writers who specialize on this specially those who writes in social media.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
The social media writers are good with this and it is not easy for a top writer to take sides on this. Honestly, before you start talking about making contents on controversial issues, you should be set for a backlash and some insults from a group of people as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is so true. Even if the writer puts his opinion on a positive tone, you can still expect some people to take it negatively. One should be brave to take whatever these people will throw after making your piece.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

romyter013
True. for some they make it as for fun that they can insult someone on the forum. Respect is getting lessen everyday. And what's worse, they even follow and support that person because they think the person is so cool. What I see here is people make bad things as a normal thing and they make it habit.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Online trolls! I know someone who's doing this during his free time. I asked him what he gets from doing it and he said "Just to pass time. It's fun to see how some people react to what you say".

I intentionally steer clear of controversial topics on my blog. It's a personal finance topic and online money making blog dedicated to my countrymen and it's meant to be helpful so I don't want to alienate any group of readers. Instead, I am focusing on posts that will provide value to the readers and in turn, to my blog. In the near future, I'd like to use my blog to promote something bigger so I can't have anything there that's potentially damaging.

BUT, I have written a few articles and ebooks on some controversial issues for clients. In such cases, the main ideas usually come from them and my role is to simply flesh them out.

Personally, there are topics that I don't want to write about even though I have a very firm stand on the issue. I respect divergence and individual differences and I don't want to breach the line. I'd rather be a peacemaker.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
I agree with you that there are some blogs that when we are running, we won't want to bring controversial topics to. Yeah, the reason just as you said, is to provide value for those people that are on the site and not for any other thing. So, it is understandable for you to stick to what you are doing and not bringing some topics that may bring disunity.

I’m not really into writing controversial articles as I don’t really like to be a source of division between people. That being said, I can’t say that I haven’t written about stuff that got certain types of people in an uproar.

I like to write about spiritualism and religion, and as we all know, religious fundamentalists don’t really leave much room for interpretation. If anything isn’t exactly according to the way they believe things are, they instantly get up in arms.

I once wrote about a theory that Jesus practiced as a Buddhist monk during the unrecorded period of time in his life, and boy oh boy did that not go over well with Christian fundamentalists. They probably would’ve lynched me over a theory that wasn’t even my own.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree. Talking about religion is a hard topic. Even just having a simple discussion between different teachings could sometimes lead to a debate that nobody could win.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Many kinds of religions around the world. Many would react if you favor into one religion only. That is why it is one of the complicated and controversial issue today.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

DenisP
It’s the unfortunate truth that many of the most devout people don’t really leave much room for the one teaching that is universal to all religions, and that is compassion.

I may have my views, but I don’t hold them so fervently as to completely deny someone else of an opinion. I’ve tried to have civilized discussions, even with my own grandfather, and it somehow allows boils down to “You’re wrong and I’m right.”

I don’t know why it can almost never be “I respect your view, and here is mine.”

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I probably haven't done this. Controversial topics are a big no for me. I don't like writing about stuff that gets so much negativity. Whenever I see stuff like this, I make it a point to avoid replying or participating in any sort of way. I'd rather let people have their time discussing it than adding fuel to the mix.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
I don't think the focus is on the negativity that follows controversial topics, but the fact that you are making contents that might be going against some ideas and cultures. This is the part where it is difficult for you to find out what and what to do on a particular situation.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

If your topic has become controversial then I have to congratulate you. It is the first step step in becoming a famous writer since you will get people to talk about your article. However, if there are big institutions that will get offended of your writings. I would suggest that you will take caution for it might destroy your career in writing especially if you are just starting out.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Especially for those that are starting out, writing controversial topics on issues that may involve some big companies is a no for me. The thing is even when you are doing your work with facts, there is a possibility of being sued to court which won't be easy to defend if you have not got any backing on that.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
I think that controversial article needs a lot of cautiousness in writing them because it can trigger people's reaction and can go viral instantly. If we are going to write a controversial article we must see to it that we are not humiliating or hurting others to avoid some problem later on. We must have still respect with everyone's idea or perception on certain things.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Understanding boundaries is essential when we are making contents that is controversial in nature. Things like calling names and other things should be avoided so as to avoid being threatened by any person or group in the future.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
You're right. I often see name calling as an easy trigger for everyone. Nowadays you can't use words in such a way that offends others. Like how you must be careful in wording someone's appearance. You can't call them fat, ugly or anything similar.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's the thing with controversial topics. You can go wrong so easily in many ways. Not only do you need to understand a ton of facts. You must also consider everyone's differing point of view.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Some people are cooperative when it comes to controversial topics. They are active in giving their own opinions and thoughts about the topic. Writing this kind of article is okay but it is important to identify the real purpose of writing it. It Is good to state the objectives or the main goal why the topic is created. I am not good at it but I believe that some writers are able to do this.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

We must know how to handle controversies. During the time of Jesus he was often accused of making controversies. Especially the breaking of the sabbath day. For the Lord Jesus Christ He has never ever violated God's word.

One way to go about it is to share your honest opinion. But in doing so, be humble and accept that others will likely disagree. It would also be nice to share something positive in order to lighten the mood and lessen the negativity surrounding everyone.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

superlicca
You got the point. Adding positive comment can lighten the mood or the issue. I think it should be a balance of positive and negative overview of the topic.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Yes, that's right. One example is satirical content. This can be used to tackle controversial topics without being too serious. It makes fun of certain stuff about the issue without being totally offensive.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
Me too. It's best to be upfront with what your intentions are for writing the article. You don't want people misreading your work. Transparency works wonders. Especially, in sensitive topics such as this.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree with you. Sometimes, people tend to forget the real purpose of writing a controversial topic. Sometimes, people just want to mess and add fuel to the fire which is very wrong.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I also think that writing controversial topics are for the brave of heart. However, one must get the all of the facts straight and at hand, because, if you do otherwise, you will only look foolish to everyone. Being brave isn't the only important thing in this field, being wise and being cautious at the same time also matters.

I get what you mean. This is one of those matters that can't be taken lightly. The writer must make sure he knows what he's talking about. Also, the emotional weight of the discussion must be weighed carefully.

Not really, most of my articles are about to some common questions or concerns on every forum, well, I don't want to post something that is controversial just for my safety.

Same here. Nowadays it can be dangerous to write about something controversial. It's shocking how many people receive death threats for writing stuff online. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near such violence.

Writing controversial article needs a lot of caution and entails a big responsibility because we are writing not just for our selves but for the entire community. We should take a clear stand on what we are writing about so that readers will understand our sentiments or stand on the said controversial article. We should keep in mind to write the truth and not just based of hearsay so as to support our writing as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, trying to write based on gossips don't make one a good writer. The thing is that you should have done a deeper research before coming up with such a controversial topic so that when there are attacks in the future, you get to handle it in a nice way.

The only way to avoid getting caught up in writing a controversial article would be to remain objective in expressing your point because as much as you are trying to express your point, remember that you might be imposing on another person's opinion. It's all about applying caution and respect in expressing yourself in such topics.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Being objective is the goal for anyone that is looking at learning more about the way to write controversial articles. You should use the third person type of writing to express yourself as that is the only way to make everything work out at the end of the day.

I agree with you. It also takes courage to publish it and be ready for criticism. I just adnire people who are ready to face negative comments about their work, just so they could cover a controversial topic and let the mass be informed.

I came across this in a way, while writing a book on relationships for young Christian singles. My co-writer had a fit when I included a chapter on sexuality and the Biblical point of view. In the end, we had to provide links to research as she could have got struck off from her therapist job just for mentioning it, even if it was done in a neutral way. My point was that you cannot ignore these things, young Christians, as much as any other might question their sexuality. My answer is, therefore, yes and no. I wrote the chapter, but we could not use it because it is such a sensitive topic in the US. I felt in the UK we are, maybe, slightly more tolerant or perhaps old-fashioned.

I think when writing for a controversial article is that we should not be biased at some point. We must ensure the fairness and truthfulness about the particular issues that we are writing since I saw some writing that are really biased and just one sided. As much as possible, we should try to hear the opinions or reaction of the other party so that our writings would become fair and accurate.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It depends on the topic that a writer that makes a content on controversial topic is trying to follow. To be best of my knowledge, once you start playing fairness, then your works may not give the best traffic that you need to your site.

This is often the difficult part in writing about controversial topics. Not only do you have to get your facts straight, you must also be very considerate with your word choice. There's always a fine line to cross when writing.

So being thoroughly informed yourself is the first step. Being open-minded and vulnerable help a great deal towards showing honesty through your words.

I haven't written any controversial article yet because I'm quite afraid to step on other people's belief. I tend to think that I should be careful on some subject that I want to create an article with. That's why I thought that creating a controversial article should double think about creating it. If so, creating one should not be biased and should show respect on each side of belief so that it won't offend other readers.

The honest truth is that no matter what we do in this world, we are always going to offend a few persons whether directly or indirectly. So, as a writer, I always care about doing the best which involves using facts on things that I write.

On social media and on the internet, unfortunately not yet because I don't want to lose my job or even cause a stir on large scale because I'm too lazy to defend my opinions. However, I've done this before in one of my subjects during my second year in college where I was tasked to deliver a persuasive speech and the topic I wrote about is the immoral acts of the LGBT community and how it is bad. Well, I was called out by some of my classmates tho but I don't regret it because I was just only delivering about my opinion.

Well, the type of job that we do can also limit us in writing on this type of topics. One thing that I have come to find out is that you always have to think of the consequences of the things that you do and in this case where it is going to affect your job, I think staying away from controversial topics is the best move.

Am a bona fide member of this site called mylot. One time I started a discussion on rape. I wanted us to discuss who causes rape. As a starter, I said ladies were to blame for rape. Their dress and conduct sometimes act provocative, married women may be denying their men of conjugal rights turning them into rapists and ladies may be going unprotected to lonely areas.

That raised a lot of controversy. I received abuses and branded a rapist. Many people blocked me. It was pathetic. They reasoned thatsdies are victims and not tbose to blame.

Rape is never a good thing no matter how the event took place. As long as the person (Female) says no or struggle in the act of getting laid, it means that she is no longer comfortable with doing it and thereby shouldn't be forced.

But I'm sure that some people would defend some rape act with one reason or another as to what led to the forced sex. Rape is wrong no matter how it's been looked at.

Yes sometimes it is the downside of writing controversial article since some other people often mislead what we are writing even though our main purpose to wrote those particular discussion is just to have to know their views and stand regarding on that particular issue, but then it turns out to be worst and oftentimes we receive some criticism to other people which is sometimes unfair and unworthy to have since we are just doing our job which is to witter article that can open up their minds and soul.

Writing is like a mind opener. It is there to make people think outside the box. At times unless the root cause of some viles is uprooted, much imprisonment and punishments meted on culprits may be harmless. Like the case of rape, the more they imprison the culprits is the more others spring up.

One time I wrote an article lamenting on the increased cases of child defilement. One member commented that some cases have religious origin. Actually when an adult defiles a minor, what type of religion is that? Some parents actually instigate the acts. It stinks!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Religion is a very delicate topic in any where in the world. Whether it's discussed online or in person, if care isn't take, might result to misunderstanding and the aftermath isn't going to be good at all.

This is actually the reason why I try as much as possible to to keep an arms length when it comes to writing any articles that deals on religion.

Some people hide in religion to do heinous acts. We need to write more about them to highlight some oddities. Keeping silent because we fear controversy does not count.

There is the case where it is argued that child defilement is religious. Which is this religion that damages the life of these minors? I will shout some things at the top of the roof despite the outcome. Innocent children should be left innocent so that they enjoy their marriage life.

I think if possible we should refrain from writing controversial articles because it can sometimes create problems and confusion. It is better to write those positive article that can even inspire others to work hard and achieve success since for sure no one will give you a negative reaction or comments for that doing that way.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Not all controversial topics are based on negativity. Take for instance when I am writing about the aims of protecting the girl child in the midst of rape that is going on around the world. It is controversial to an extent but it is going to be appreciated by people as they know that rape should be done everything to ensure we reduce the rate.

Once I think writing a “controversy,” I consider taking a stand which counteracts the traditional knowledge, not using a phrase that may offend a few people. I’m thinking if there may be a difference within the overall performance of a certainly controversial publish vs. just what I would call an competitive subject line. Controversy isn't always necessarily negative. I might suppose it would generate discussion.

Honestly, I'm not fond of creating a controversial article or any form of writings on it because it might get your reputation ruined in an instant if you don't do extensive research about the controversial issue or topic. Though it has the higher chance that your article will be on trend but expect a lot of heavy criticisms for that as well. Also, make sure that you are very knowledgeable enough to defend your article. But today, I'm more into entertainment topics like gaming and sometimes inspirational and motivational based on real experiences.

Yeah, let's say that because you are now into some topics that is all about motivational and gaming, you are definitely going to stay clear of controversial topics. I have. It wasn't an article per se, but more of a forum post on my blog asking about the TRAIN Law - a controversial law here in my country. Lots of people commented on my post and before I knew it, I ranked number 1 on Google with regards to this certain keyword. I get about 500 views per day on that post alone. It's nice to write a controversial article or post because it will get a lot of views.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Writing on contents that others are always afraid to write on is the only way to get more people to read what you feel. This is one of the ways to generate real traffic on your site as more people will want to read the articles to see views that you have.

I once wrote an article about "racism in hollywood" when I had an entertainment blog.

The moment the article was indexed, I started getting traffic from Google that same day. It felt good considering the fact that it takes quite a while to get any traffic from search engines especially when your blog is new.

That said, one shouldn't write controversial articles just for the sake of drawing traffic. You could do that once or occasionally but unless your site deals with social or environmental issues I don't think you can do it all the time and still ensure you are delivering to your target audience what they seek when they visit your blog.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, I agree that doing it every day that we want to write is not the best way to go. Well, I would never decide beforehand and write an article which will create controversy. But if that article becomes controversial after I write it then I would never shy away from taking responsibility or even fight vociferously to defend it if I know that what I wrote is right. Often people have a habit of creating controversy where none exists, at such times you need to be firm and defend your right to express openly whatever you believe.that said I know of people who would write something controversial to gain some publicity. I don't agree with this kind of writing. one has to be very responsible and truthful in whatever he or she is writing.

Writing controversial articles doesn't have to mean that you will be giving false information to the people. I always look at the way that we can ensure that we make the facts known to people. It's a very complex topic. While others are brave, most are simply discourteous when it comes to speaking their minds. Being frank isn't always a good idea. You must mind your words and how you say them if you want people to take you seriously. Let alone listen to what you have to say.

@mirodge,but what articles are we calling controversial? Is offence controversial or just plain offence? My definition of a controversial article divides debate right in the middle. This is an article where many people would not think that anyone would dare address the issue so openly. For example some countries around the world have banned being gay However they are writers in that country that still write and advocate for those rights or right of same-sex marriage. That in my opinion is a controversial article. In my opinion offending people is not a controversial.

Our society needs someone who write to unravel the status quo. Things we consider as taboo, wether they are related to religion, race, belief etc, are always sensitive but if they are orthodox and have become a block or obstacle to free society and humans evolution, they need to be discussed and be brought to the open. And if the intention is good, they should not be sidelined or discriminated upon by the readers.
