Freelancing is a REAL job!

I have been a freelancer for a few years now. I make decent money and am happy with what I do. Granted, I do not leave my house to go to a job, but I work extremely hard at what I do. On of my biggest pet peeves is that some do not see this as a job. They think that all I do is just sit on my computer all day long and mess around. I hate it when people turn their noses up at me when I say I am a freelancer. It is frustrating to me. I do what I love and that is all that matters. It just hurts sometimes when people that are in my life judge what I do.

Although I have a full time job in the office and my freelancing is only part time, I still consider my freelancing as a real job. In fact, I am trying my best to be as professional in working every day and even weekends and holidays. And in terms of my work, I always try my best to have a quality output. When I retire from my full time job, I hope to be a profitable freelancer.

Of course freelancing is a real job, and I agree with you entirely. Sadly I know exactly how you feel, a lot of people scoff at me as well when I tell them that I work as a freelancer. They might not think it is hard work, but I would dare to say that freelancers work even than harder than a lot of people with "regular" jobs. Normal jobs often have downtimes and slow days, but you still get paid even if you're bored at work. Freelancers on the other hand, we are busting our butts day in and day out to finish old work and find new work because to a freelancer, slow day means no pay. It is harder than regular work, but I would say far more rewarding.

Very true. Freelancers need to work for them to earn. Freelancing is very exhausting and writers need full support from family and friends. I like friends who judge what I do after they try it out because I know they will say it is very hard.

Aw, don't feel down because of those sort of people... you just have to ignore it and keep doing what you enjoy - freelancing! Certain types of individuals are just very narrow-minded and don't know what they're talking about. Freelancing is 100% a real job and anybody that says otherwise has clearly never tried to do it themselves. In my country, freelancing isn't as widely spread as elsewhere and when I mention to random strangers what I do to earn money they don't understand it at all. But I never let it get to me!

Yes, we have a flexible schedule. Yes, we work from home but that doesn't mean that our job or work isn't equally as hard or important as normal workers.

People aren't just used to how powerful technology is nowadays and how freelancing could be really tedious at times. It is definitely a real job and people shouldn't be discouraged over some remarks by ignorant people.

Yes, what you said is true. People don't really know that you can make money through freelancing. They think that it's a joke that you can make money just by having an internet connection. Nevertheless, more people are shifting their careers towards freelancing mainly because of the flexibility and the freedom that it offers.

Freelancing is definitely a viable job. I guess some people are still stuck with the conception that working at home using a computer is not a job. Well, I can say that these people are not well-informed about the job market. Many organizations are cutting costs and looking to freelancers or external organizations to do certain jobs for them. It's 2017 but sadly some people mistakenly assume that I am playing games or just reading the news when I'm actually researching and doing online writing. It's fine for them to not be aware since the most important thing for me is to get that side income as a freelancer.

Of course, freelancing is a real and a decent job. Some people I know quit their job and opted to starts free lancing. I am also in the way of being a freelancer. I find freelancing as a very convenient job because you can work at your own convenience and the pay is also good, though for starters it would be hard. Hard work is always the key and we just need to do it right.

There are also people who love to brag about their freelancing careers. I know it's nice to be proud of what you do but unless you are earning more than the company office worker, then you shouldn't always brag about your freelancing at home job or whatever that is specially if you are earning per task and not per hour. Although some would offer per hour jobs, most of the time, it would always be based on the task completed and how long it took you to complete it. Whenever I ask people what their jobs are, they'd be like, " oh gosh I'm a freelancer gosh I love my job I'm always at home watching tv while typing on the keyboard oh gosh I earn 5$ per day." -.-

Unfortunately, freelancing is still not widely seen as a "real" job.

This is a very worrying reality because millions of people work in this way, but they aren't properly valued for the jobs they do... But I think the path to due recognition is getting closer and closer.

It won't be long before people become aware once and for all of the importance of freelancers.

I agree. I am a freelancer myself and somehow I have a feeling of getting back to corporate world. Now that it's so rampant and there had been a lot of competition which makes freelancing crowded. Some also are just deluded scammers who want you to pay for a sum of amount to get a job.

I agree with you... The freelance field is getting more and more crowded.

However, I think the good side is knowing that people who are working the longest in the market are more likely to be more recognized. Of course it's not a rule, but the chances for the "older ones" are better. Freelancing is a REAL job!

Well, the old ones get the high paying jobs because they are experienced to do such a lot of things when it comes to freelancing. Newbies are still scratching the surface.

The advantage is with the older ones, but we should never understimate the willpower of those who are coming now - the newbies - because some of them can be very surprising and end up beating us (although I don't see it as a race) with a certain ease.

Your lifestyle should be an indicator that you can survive being a freelancer. Surely people around you see you how you spend your free time, what you eat, what you wear. You may even go on holiday. Not that those who have a nine to five job are any better.

Of course it's a real job, If you're making enough to make a living then who cares. I hate it when people think people should live by their standards. If that was the case we would all be robots! I say keep on doing what you like to do for a living as long as your happy with what you do,

I actually think most criticism of freelancers comes from conventional people. They see the world a certain way and if anyone opposes or steps outside of that - they're instantly ridiculed. Just like people believe slaving away at a cubicle is a better form of work than calling your own shots by offering your skills for hire at a set price - there were people back in the day who worked in factories and plants that saw computer or tech jobs as inferior and unsustainable. Look at us now though.

I started to do freelancing as a part job. Apparently this was going to complete a better earning. So, far it's been almost 2 years since I started, and this job takes more time than my regular one. We are working online, usually as part of several communities worldwide, so it's a huge responsibility to sit in front of the computer, and do what we do, because the whole world is watching and evaluating what we do. So, as long as I feel good with what I'm doing, I don't care what people say, this is a real job for sure, with schedule, effort, and dedication, as any other job.

It is definitely a real job and that is why I like it. I know how frustrating it can be when people look down on freelancing. It is because they have no experience with it and they also don't understand the struggles and joys of being a freelancer.
