How do you feel about spinning content?

I recently had someone comment on my online marketing website and ask me for feedback on his website and if there is anything he could do to improve.

Anyway off I went to have a look and I could barely read the content, it was awful. So I wondered if the guy had spun someone else’s content. I copied it and put it through the Smallseotools.com website plagiarism checker and it was all copied content.

So this leaves me to believe that it was content that someone copied and then spun first and published, then this guy went and copied that rubbish?

All I have to say is I hate spun content and from what I understand it can rank quite nicely sometimes… BUT I hate, I hate everything about it.

Taking someone else’s hard work and just spinning it doesn’t make it great content that is different and ranks. It takes great content and makes it awful. It is also clear that it is spun when you read it.

Do you spin content and how does this work for you?

There are three ways of spinning content:
  1. You use a software that spins everything automatically, this will pretty much make the whole content pretty confusing to the reader and you will end up with a piece of trash that won't rank for anything.
  2. You spin and re-formulate an article manually, meaning you may add some unique stuff but in essence, the article will end up stating the same thing as the original. At least this way you have a chance in ranking, especially if you write a bigger article compared with the original and with a better structure.
  3. You gather information from multiple articles and create your own content that is bigger and better than all those articles put together, you also add a lot of unique stuff and personal opinions good structure and SEO optimized. This is my favorite way of doing things and you can achieve awsome ranks doing this.

Cristian but when you do number 3 you don't use a software do you... so this wouldn't really be spun content this would be researching and writing your own article from scratch.

If you write content you need to research it and of course you will take information from other articles but I believe it is important to write your own content.

Yes exactly! Only on point 1 you would use software.

Yes and that is the one I hate! I can't see that adds any value to a website at all!

I think that is the best way of spinning because you don't really rehash but just like doing a research on the topic from the existing articles. And using your own words, that becomes an original article although the initial intention was to spin the article. I advise against using a software for spinning because it is plain cheating. When you do the step #3 above, it is like writing on your own and using the existing articles as reference. That's a clean article for a result.

I don't use a software or anything like that. I've never had a reason to do it. Anyhow, I'd never even used a software or a "online text spinner" thing before just recently. I used it for fun. It wasn't anything serious and definitely nothing that involved anything business related. I just did it for fun. The cool part was, that I first of all, found out what you say about number 1. Everything looked like crazy. - I couldn't even read one sentence after I had pressed "spin!".

However, I also found a super-cool word I'd never used before in my life.. Unfortunately, I can't remember that specific word anymore, lol How do you feel about spinning content?

That being said, I don't like the thought of spun content at all. It feels unethical. Rewriting is one thing though. I wouldn't say anything bad about that.

Andre what spinners do is they replace words with synonyms... so different words with the same or similar meanings.

I like to look up synonyms sometimes when I write when I notice that I use the same word a lot then I will go to thesaurus.com and put that word in and it will give me a list of synonyms.

This can be really handy and useful to keep your writing fresh How do you feel about spinning content?

Yes I have used parts of other websites content and rewritten it in my own words. I would more call that research than spinning though.

There is nothing worse than someone copying someone else's content. I've always told my friends the same thing, if it is an important piece of homework then you are not going to get my work to copy off. If it's just some sort of worksheet that doesn't involve your own writing then fair enough, you can have a quick look at it but you won't be able to copy my own writing and content. Seeing someone copy your work is awful especially when you lose readers to them.

I don't support copying other peoples content for your own site. It's basically stealing, even if you steal content that someone else has already stolen. The correct way to use a 'source' of information, is to pen an article covering the topic in your own voice with your own conclusions and points. Then link the source article at the foot of your article or somewhere within your article. That way proper credit is given during your coverage of a topic.

Thanks for letting me know about this website called Smallseotools.com that can check contents for probable plagiarism. I didn’t know that there is an easier way to check. And I agree that spinning an article is not a good idea especially if you are not good in written English and that you are not a good writer at all. The flaws will just show and it will be obvious that you don’t really know what you are writing about.
