Content Generation Idea: Know Your Meme

Know Your Meme (knowyourmeme.com) is a meme dedicated site that tracks the latest and best, hottest and trending meme's of all types and kinds on the Internet today. If there's any meme that is trending on Reddit or Pinterest or some other site, it will usually end up on KnowYourMeme.com pretty quick! And you can use this site to help you to come up with content generation ideas which I'll go ahead and talk about here.

So Know Your Meme is an incredibly popular site amongst the meme Internet generation of today! And you can use it to tie in the hottest and most trending topics in your niche. Or you can just search the site for something related to your niche and then from what shows, find out how you can use those meme's for content generation ideas!

So all you really have to do is go onto KYM and then search for something related to your niche. Let's say for example, we perform a search on KYM for "freelance". From that, we can then sort to view by entries which are basically user submitted posts, images which are where you'll get most of your ideas from. As well as videos, editorials and forums. You can even choose to sort the results by most popular but it's not really required.

One thing I should say about KYM is that you might need to have a bit of a thick skin when visiting this site and checking it out. Some of the meme's are NSFW (Not Safe For Work) to say the least! Content Generation Idea: Know Your Meme Some of them are just plain down right rude and insulting. But just try to ignore them and look through the returned results and see if there's anything you can see that you can use for creating content from.

I found this really cool comic for Sluggy Freelance which is apparently meant to be a funny insinuative look at the life of a freelancer. But it seems to be more of a poke at someone's mom and something to do with dragons more than anything else!

Content Generation Idea: Know Your Meme

Probably not the best example to give you but just an example of the kind of random things you can come across on KYM! Content Generation Idea: Know Your Meme

Perhaps this next one I've found might be somewhat more inspiring! A meme on freelance bloggers.

Content Generation Idea: Know Your Meme

That's probably a better example for you! Just an example of the types of meme's you can find on KYM!

And from those that show, you can think about ways in which you can use them for content generation ideas! Content Generation Idea: Know Your Meme

Do you use Know Your Meme for this reason?

What other ways can you use it for content generation ideas?

Cheers!

Mike.

Like you said, some of the memes that they have over there are definitely not safe for work and are extremely inappropriate so I would be careful before browsing the site especially if you are easily offended. Memes are great ways to come up with content because they are extremely trendy and are basically what is popular right now. I know that a lot of businesses base some of their social media campaigns on popular memes to attract a younger crowd. If you can incorporate this into your content then you can really get a lot of readers.

Very good point. Unless you are working from home or unless your office environment is a bit more lax with NSFW content then it might be best to avoiding these sites. Although, I suppose there are some versions of these types of sites that only ever offer safe for work content so maybe just bookmarking those and sticking to these few sites could be a helpful compromise.

That's a great idea! I did a quick search for a few topics I write about often, and found a few that would definitely be beneficial in my own work!

Similarly, I rather like the site https://imgflip.com/memetemplates since I can use it for creating my own memes on topics that I'm working on. If you see a meme floating around that you want to adapt for another topic (or even see a meme on KYM that you really like but want to tweak slightly), a keyword search on imgflip will likely find the template you're looking for so that you can make the meme that will speak to you and your audience.

While memes have are very significant in internet culture today, I think it's incredibly important that you be careful when trying to use memes, especially if in regards to your business. It's definitely a good idea to stay on top of meme trends in an attempt to see if anything could work in your favor, but it's imperative that you're selective about what you do end up using. I think a lot of times, meme use can seem sloppy and appear unprofessional, especially from a marketing standpoint.

Some big name brands have used loose meme formats for social media marketing campaigns to good results, but they were very, very careful about how they did them. For instance, Jimmy Johns used a "you vs. the guy she tell you not to worry about" approach to advertising their sandwiches, which was hilarious and ever so relevant to the social media memes.

I believe the use of memes are okay for more commercial products but must be moderated by the PR or marketing team. Certain companies do have internal codes which do not want to use any form of advertising which may affect their professional and no-nonsense image.

I tend to agree with you here. Memes are like really flash in the pan trends. They can become cliche' and trute in a matter of minutes, if not overnight, so to have them attached to your longterm business image might be a bit of a risk. None of us want to appear to be unprofessional, and using memes to get attention can be a bad move in the long run, I think. Memes can probably shotput your traffic in the short term, but I do question if they should be a permanent markeing strategy.

I frequent a lot of sites like this and I think it is very helpful not only in inspiring content but also just relaxing your mind enough so that once you get back into writing your mind is a lot clearer. Either way, it can be very helpful, in my opinion. I use it mostly just for breaks, to be honest, but from time to time I do tend to find some small gems of inspiration or content from sites like this, sometimes it's also good to watch videos too since they are only a few minutes long and can refresh your mind quickly.

Memes are a reaction to the exalted Self-depicted in the works of fiction. They are also a reaction against the exaggerations created by language, the impenetrability of art circles, the linguistic impediments to expression and limitations of other forms of literature that are failing to express the daily experiences of so many people. Published fiction withholds detail for fear of causing offense, or coming off as creepy, vulgar or cheap. This is primarily because published fiction has an author who will be held to account and readers will inevitably project all of the work back to the personality of the author.

Of all the content generation ideas I think I like this one best for a simple jump start to the brain for ideas. Anything found is going to be satirical in nature so it's just right for me since I am always trying to find the quirky or dark side of any topic. Although I likely wouldn't use any of the ideas directly they are often enough to give me some ideas about what is being discussed socially about topics I am interested in and that pertain to my life. When I see something that hits home, I can explore it to see if I can relate my own experiences or contrast them with the subject in a post of my own. Either way it is likely to help me to see things a little differently and is definitely a help in getting to know what other's are talking about.

Memes are great ways to build up contents and I think that I will have to check out the site to know more about how I am going to use them to develop contents for the blogs that I currently work on.

Thanks for the idea. I must confess that memes are a generation thing. The younger generation or millennials tend to use and understand them better than the older generation. Personally I don't understand them. They are supposed to be funny , but I just find them stupid. But I think you're right we also need to tailor our content so that it appeals to pop culture, to attract more traffic.

I think this is another content about trending. To be honest, I don’t exactly know what a meme is but my idea is it’s something that is popular among the youth although it may not be substantial to everyone. In other words, it can be nonsense but the point is its popularity. I guess people will be reading your article if you will have an appropriate title pertaining to the trend.

I have seen so many meme online online but I have never asked about how it's generated or where it came. It's a good thing to know about such site like KYM, I'm definitely going to find time to check out the site and see what memes that would be useful for me with respect to my project.
