Using a journal or notebook for blogging content ideas

One of the challenges many bloggers face is coming up with fresh content on a regular basis.

Here is one tip that I use for content ideas that works wonders for me so hopefully you can benefit from it too.

How many times have you been busy with something when you get an idea for content but you are out or busy with something else? Then by the time you get home or you are finished what you are busy with you have forgotten what it was? Or maybe you have even forgotten you had a brainwave in the first place?

I get ideas all the time and then I sit down to write and my mind is this big void of nothingness… no ideas and no creativity.

For this reason I carry a little notebook with me at all times. It is in my hand bag so even if I am having coffee with a friend and a conversation we are having gives me an idea for a mommy blog post I just whip out my notebook and make a note.

I also have a big notebook at home where I work (my bed hahaha) and I have it open while I am working. I also come up with loads of ideas while I am working. I might be doing some keyword research and this sparks an idea for a related post I could write or maybe I am busy writing a post and I can see where I can branch off into a series of posts for example.

I also come up with so many interesting ideas from other people’s websites too, when I am doing competitor research and when I am just reading things of interest.

I just scribble these ideas down into my notebook. It has become a habit now that anything that comes into my mind gets jotted down.

My notebooks (and I have a few of them now) are full of random thoughts and ideas, cool keywords that I could incorporate into my content.. oh and sometimes shopping lists and birthday dates are mingled in too because I had nowhere else to write at the time and I always have my notebook.

These notebooks of mine are messy and full of shit to be honest. Nobody else would be able to know what on earth they say even if they could read my messy and rushed shorthand!

However for me they are absolute GOLD… when I am having a braindead moment when it seems nothing can jump start my creativity to write anything I just have a look through my notebooks and I am faced with hundreds of cool content ideas.

I use .txt documents. Easy to create and does the trick. - However, I often used notebooks and things like that earlier, so I could write things by hand. I don't know why, but I've always liked it better than to write notes on my computer. A "to do list" for instance. It's impossible to write something like that on a piece of paper nowadays, as I fill it with gibberish. - I do lines and circles around words or sentences and I often draw something totally irrelevant. So at the end of the day, I have spent 3 hours drawing instead of doing anything important. Using a journal or notebook for blogging content ideas

That's why I use a simple .txt document instead.

I personally just use Google Keep as I have my smartphone close to me 24/7. I can even put an alarm to notify me about a certain topic I need to write when I have free time available, it motivates me a lot, because I'm the kind of guy that tends to ignore notes once I wrote them down, so alarms are perfect and remind me of my duty.

Mike the 7 Sticky Notes look great! I haven't got anything for my laptop, I use Google calendar and it syncs in with my Google Keep notes but overall everything that I don't want to forget I write into a notepad when I'm on my laptop.

I love the notebook idea. I also tend to forget the great ideas I come up with within a short amount of time. Life in general is full of inspiration for ideas to write about or research further. As you said, the ideas could pop into your head while having coffee with a friend or something else you are researching could inspire a whole other topic. I also find that when looking through and reading the blogs of others, I am inspired with further ideas. I have always believed that creativity is like energy, in that you can not create something entirely new, everything is created from other ideas or inspiration. It's an endless cycle of things creating other things, ideas creating other ideas, just as energy leads to other energy. Having a few notebooks around is a way that makes sense to me to be able to jot down the ideas before they float back away.

I don't even know how many times I have come up with an idea for content or a website idea and I have forgotten it later because I never wrote it down. It feels horrible because you feel that you had a really good idea but you just end up having to forget about it unless you are able to remember what it was exactly. THat's why like you said a journal or notebook of some sort is great because whenever you have an idea, you can just write it down so that you can look back and remember what it was.

I have the habit of bringing an old exercise book that my son had not used. I also bring along a pen to write down any ideas that suddenly came into my mind when I see something or any happenings as I am on the road or the shopping mall. I found this is very convenient because I bring along a bagpack with me. I don't use my phone to jot down notes because typing is very troublesome.

When I started writing, I realized that ideas would come to my head and then vanish after 1 minute. That means I couldn’t remember the idea. Someone suggested for me to use a small notepad. What I actually used was a sheet of bond paper that I folded 3 times. That’s where I write whatever idea would come to my mind. It usually appears when I am driving so maybe my brain is fertile when I am in front of the steering wheel. But later on, I started using my phone to log my ideas. No need for pen and paper anymore since the phone is more convenient than a note pad.

I usually write down my ideas on post it's. Nowadays, it's easier with all the gadgets around, whenever an idea would come to me, I would just record my voice or type it in messages and save it. But I like recording it because it's faster.
