Well, thankfully you have a number of options available to you, but I think that all of them are going to take some time and patience. As any experienced freelancer knows, no freelancing gig ever comes quickly or easily, especially from the beginning.

It's worth investing most of your time into sites like Elance, Upwork, and Freelancer, since establishing a good portfolio and reputation on such sites is going to net you the most lucrative work.

Then there are second tier freelancing sites such as Fiverr, which allow you to offer services (much like WorldClerks) for a fixed rate. However, because Fiverr is so easy to access and popular, it's going to be hard to find work until you've gained a reputation among the crowd.

Lastly there are content mills such as Text Broker, Content Gather and Crowd Content. The basic idea here is to write and upload as much content as you can and hope that something sells, or gain a good enough of a reputation to receive Direct Order work such as with Text Broker.

You could also take things into your own hands and go around offering work for blogs and other websites, but you'll have to have a good portfolio so they know what kind of content they can expect from you.

Upwork, Freelancer, Fiverr are a big negative when it comes to writing jobs, too many competitors. I still have to check Elance, Text Broker, Crowd Content, I haven't heard of those sites yet. Do you have a recommendation for the easiest site that could earn me a couple of dollars a day?

I agree with you. Upwork, Freelancer and Fiverr are quite congested right now with so many freelancers and it's hard to compete with veterans in there. Guess rookies should look for other websites like start-ups so that they won't have to compete with established writers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mitan143
I agree. I think if you wish not to compete with those veteran writers then the best option would be, looking for a start-up sites which we can join in easily. This is exactly what I am doing but due to busy schedules and I have a lot of other things to do then I stick in here and I haven't started to look for start-up sites again but it is not easy to find a lot though.

I heard that sites too. Upwork is good in paying also. Do sign up there and for sure you will easily learn things for you to make money.

There might be a lot of competitors on all those sites, but what do you have to lose from simply signing up and giving it a try? The fact is that you're going to have loads of competition wherever you go these days, simply because the internet is so easy to access. It has given any relatively skilled writer a platform to work. No matter what place anyone suggests to you, there are already going to be people there who are ahead of the curve. You just have to jump in and try your best.

The other option is starting a website and monetizing it yourself, or using it as a platform to display your work and then offer your services personally. Monetizing a website is going to guarantee you at least a couple of bucks a day once you get some decent traffic, but currently, I don't think there are any sites which are going to earn you a couple dollars on a consistent basis. At that point you're better off looking elsewhere like survey or micro-task sites, but those jobs are boring and unrewarding, and not even available globally.

Elance was matched with Odesk to the current UPwork. There are many sites you can source work, but your location is also vital.

I have tried Upwork, Freelancer and Fiverr. Irrespective of the competition, I have earned in Fiverr. I hate Freelancer because of the number of scams.

You have just about summarized everything that can possibly add to the sites one can earn money from working online. So, there is no need for my duplicating of the exact same thing probably in another phrase. This is why I would just second your opinion on the available sites one can make money online from. Once anyone takes any of those sites seriously, there is definitely going to be nothing that can stop the individual from making money online from them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Text Broker and Crowd Content prefer US citizens only. While Content Gather has a lot of negative feedbacks on the net like hundreds of them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Martinsx1
To be honest with you, whenever I come across sites that limits its contents poster's to select countries, I feel embarrassed because I don't see the reason why the site owners write off a lot of content posters that can add meaningful contents to the site. Of course, there are bad posters in every category of people, so it's better to give everyone a chance to show what they can offer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Most content mills aren't going to have good reviews. That's why they're usually a last resort for people, because that's where you go when you're really desperate or just have some spare articles to put up and hope that they'll make you a dollar or two. Content mills aren't intended to be a main source of income, but a lot of people assume that they're going to be able to pay the bills working there. And I don't know about Crowd Content, but I know that Text Broker has a UK site where they accept people from all over the world. It's textbroker.co.uk if I recall correctly.

Are you fond of doing surveys? You can check out GlobalTestMarket or InstaGC for that. I have to remind you though that it will not make you wealthy. If you really want to earn a lot online, try freelancing sites such as Upwork and FreeeUp.

I've tried applying at Freeup but unfortunately, I failed the job application. They did not indicate why, but yhey told me that they are only hiring top 1% (or 10%) freelancers. Maybe I'm not good enough for them. I'm still searching on how I can earn online because I need money to finance my graduate studies.

I have recently tried signing up for Free up and Upwork. I got rejected from both. They didn't give me a reason as well. Maybe I did not meet their requirements. But it would have been nice if they told me in which terms I failed so that I could have improved on them.

I definitely agree with you. It will take a lot of patience to get a job from the sites that you mentioned. I tried to edit and improve my profile for upwork but it was never approved. Although if you get your luck and get a job then, you can earn a lot. I heard many clients from upwork provide a great income.

Just as the first commenter said, it is going to take lots of time and patience for you to stay earning as a freelance writer on some of those sites that he mentioned. One of the easier ways that you can earn is to apply for offline freelancing in some firms and companies around and see how good that it is going to be at the end. Also, taking time to register on iwriter is as well very nice as that is the site that I wanted to work on but couldn't pass the test.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
Thanks for sharing Iwriter, it's the first time I've heard of this site. I would check it out today. Try Livingston Research, it's a good site.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Did you later check out the iwriter site? For me, that is one of the sites where you can get to earn as you write which is really great. I have not had time to surf for other sites as I always hear that it is going to take a whole lot of time to get that working out at the end.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I checked out I writer same as the others, they only accept native English speakers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

coolavender
Have you actually worked for iwriter?! I don't think I can recommend that writing site to anyone. They do accept international writers but the rejection rates for articles are appalling and the time limit for a project is too short.

As a newbie/junior writer, it will be difficult to make a great impression because there are too few writing assignments available for this level. The last time I checked, they were offering to promote junior writers to prime writers for a fee. I wasn't impressed with that. I've read not a few sob stories from ex-writers.

If you're just looking for a writing site to earn a couple dollars, you can try the site Wordmasters.io, a Philippine-based content mill which is open to international writers. The English test and General Orientation tests are easy to pass. After that, you'll have to claim and pass two writing assignments (paid) from their pool of projects.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

These two are new to me. How does Livingston research work? Is it legit and do they pay well?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I really don't have any problems in spending a lot of time in a writing site, because patience is one of my virtues, as long as the site is legit and flourishing and has good ratings / and overall correctly manage.

When I was just starting out, I just spent time looking at freelancing sites like Upwork and others available in your country, and just really applying for everything that I see. I had a good background so it wasn't a problem for me whatever is required by the employer.

I have been reading about Fiverr in several discussions and it looked good although I still have to check on it. With the other sites like Upwork and Freelancer, this is the first time that I've heard of them. Maybe there are many other such sites where we can earn money and it's just a matter of searching. I have some friends in the freelancing industry that are discouraged with the earnings. Maybe I will pass on to them the sites mentioned in this discussion.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Barida
Fiverr is good as you can end up earning some good amount of money as long as you are always available to work and deliver on promises. The only thing is that you may struggle when you are starting out as there are many freelancers on such sites. It is advisable that you pick a mentor that can assist you in getting through the beginner stage.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

fishbate
Both them are very well known sites in terms of freelance job's. The hardest part for a beginner is competition. There are so many writers specially at Fiverr that have high ratings that clients tend to consider first. The best way to start is lower your price without affecting quality.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Fiverr was my first thought too, but I honestly think it's hard to get established on there now as well. People tend to be drawn to those who already have reviews on there - and to start out as a newbie can be tough.

I'm curious to see what others suggest, since I feel like I'm in the same boat with trying to find online sites to earn some extra dough.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

aeon
They're right, that given sites is best sites to earn something as a writer, but I think it's really hard to compete right now. The given sites they mentioned might be new to you, but not for them, they already earn a lot from those sites,

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mdayrit
Haven't tried them yet but most of my friends get their job from Upwork and Freeup. They said that with these 2 websites you could earn bigger than other site. A lot of people are using it already so there is a big competition for each job available. You would need to make an impressive resume and good rating to get employers to get your services. Rates vary depending on the job offered.

If you know how to right good content that is associated with Amazon products, Hubpages.com is an option. But it is not the case where you can just put anything up and make money. You have to have a knack for the kind of material that sells products but looks like a magazine article not and advertisement.

I thought of starting on fiver and upwork. But now I am having a second thought after reading the comments above. Maybe it's too crowded that beginners like me will only have the smallest chance of getting hired because of the massive competitors on both sites. Any recommendations guys? Anyone who know other websites who offer online jobs? I will thank you in advance What are the best writing sites to earn some extra online income?

There's this site called Crowdcontent, I just registered in it and got my account approved, though I haven't really studied the site yet, I think I'll probably spend my weekend looking at it to see if it's any good.
Don't bother with content gather because the site picks native english speakers only even if they say that it's an open site. While the others mentioned in this site are negatives for one reason or another.

I'm on a website called MeritCrowd. They do writing and translation (if you can do that too).
At first, you have to select the languages you want to write in, then they'll give you a list of topics where you'd have to choose one and write a sample article of about 300 words and if they like it you're in!
I'm still new there but I've seen some payment proofs here and there. I think you should give it a try. Good luck!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

If you are a freelancer, UpWork may help you. It was the famous site for freelance writer in my country. They will pay you with a right amount.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The problem with upwork is the competition is too much, all the good jobs are getting a lot of responses and getting picked by the client is like a needle in a haystack.

I would like to try writing sites as well but I was disappointed by the reviews for Content Gather, which was the first of those writing mills, as people call it, that I want to try. They say that you will only get paid if someone likes your content. But it is draining to write that much and there's a chance that you won't get paid for your efforts.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

clairmatin
I also joined Content Gather and the rating they gave me disappointed me.
There are a lot of articles in their marketplace that have been there for a while! I don't think the website is that active. And as you said, the idea of you writing and putting effort into an article and then not selling it, is indeed draining. I think the best way is to look for customers who want to buy some specific articles and sell them what they're asking for

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

EfficientNinja
Wow. If the site isn't even that active then that drastically reduces the chances of your content getting bought. No wonder the site has negative reviews. Only the ones who have worked as a professional writer or those who are exceptional at writing would earn from their site. Those who are doing writing as a side gig might not even compare to the good ones' articles.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

clairmatin
Exactly. I've read some negative reviews about the website here and there but I still thought it was worth a shot. I ended up deleting the article from their website. I'll try somewhere else!
For beginners or freelance writers, we need some active places with custom jobs because it's very hard to sell articles about the topics you've chosen.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
Hey there clairmartin, try ConstantContent, I got approved there last week but I really haven't tried doing jobs in it yet.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Hey there! I have just registered but I'm too lazy to write right now. They're asking for a sample writing on some tips for local travel. I hope this website is active and thank you so much for the tip dear!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
Hey Efficient Ninja, try CrowdContent, it's easy to get approved, started doing jobs there but the problem is it takes a week or two for your submitted work to get approved then the same waiting time before you get paid via PayPal, they have cutoffs. But it's a good site. Also initial account approval takes 10 days minimum.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

MomoStarr16
If the sites looks like they don't appreciate a good writing then don't stay. Don't let those site drain your energy or waste your time. There are lots of good site there.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Like most writing mills you get to submit your prewritten article only to be awarded a failing mark. It seems content gather simply wants Native American Writers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Content Gather happens to be one of the online sites that have disappointed me ever since I joined the band wagon of freelancer. With the amount of work I did on the site, I still ended up getting a shabby rating which would make earning very hard for me on the site. But among the site that have series me well for a while now are ;

Upwork
Fiverr

Have you worked on upwork? My pal has always told me about the site and how she made some money working as a graphic designer for her clients and that made me feel that it is such a good site to try things out. However, she has gone back to school without explaining things. So, what do you think about it?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yep, I've worked in upwork before, I usually get short contract works in Market Research and Editing but haven't been picked yet for good writing jobs.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I guess the general advise is to aim for writing jobs. However I would try to look for other skills because the field is getting too crowded and I think we can all agree that not everyone is the best writer. Try to offer other skills that are in demand and have less demand. Writing is not as easy as it looks you need time to develop your skill no matter how good you think you are. It's also not that easy especially if English is not your first language, unless you can get other clients from around the world, that involves cold pitching which is no simple task.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I do agree that there's simply to many writers out there, that's why in one of the sites where I'm doing some work I applied to become an editor.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

The problem with UpWork is that they don't pay via PayPal, they're old school via bank account and it takes a very long time to get paid. Sometimes I have to wait 2 weeks the fastest was about 5 days. I mean they should really consider using PayPal.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Corzhens
Thank you for the information about Upwork because I am contemplating on joining the site for extra income. Paypal is the only remittance center that I have so when a site does not patronize Paypal then it is stricken off my list. Content gather is a good one but there is no guarantee of payment. It's like investing your time by writing articles and submitting it to Content Gather for a possible sale in the future.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I've tried Content Gather and after a month of writing there with no income, I stopped. I think it's a scam site.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah, contentgather is not recommended. I seem to be suddenly getting mid-level scores (6 mostly when it was 8-9 before) on a scale of 10 for very exceptional content that I submit. They don't provide reasons for the score or any feedback. They don't have very much info available on how they score you. They say they cannot re-review and re-review again to provide why your score is mid-range. They don't tell you that you have to be under the word count for public job listings or it won't submit it and then you lose stars on your rated profile for not completing the job as you wait for them to reply and miss the 7-hour deadline, Etc.,etc., etc. I suggest you avoid them at all costs. Also, the lower the rating, the lower down the list your content will be. That is why so many buyers miss your content and that is why it sits for months. Personally, I feel that they are losing their audience so they intentionally give low scores so that they don't have to pay so much up front on the new content. Yes, you get a small upfront payment on your submitted content if above the silver level and the amount is based on the current level (silver, gold, platinum, etc.). They seem to want to keep me at the cheaper level.

It's true that freelancer and Upwork are one of the best and legit site to earn. The only problem is it's hard to be selected by the offers. Some job offers are also scam which they ask for fee's before you cant start doing the job. Don't fall for that because they only want to scam your money. Just accept job that don't require fee.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
There's a lot of scammers in both Upwork and Freelancer. What they do is contact the worker and offer the worker some projects outside the platform. If the worker agrees then it's a freebie, he won't get paid.

Also UpWork management likes to retain those who can work 8 hours a day regular online jobs. Which is not what I'm looking for. I like jobs which I can work on my spare time.

The one that I am using is postloop, I am currently using it now, and it pays well. The minimum withdrawal is 5$ thru PayPal. You can make .05$ per post that you are going to make, so it means that you have to make 50 posts to reach 5$.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

rlpzbeermoney
I think there's a problem with your math buddy. Each point equates to $0.05 not per post. Each posts plays around 1.2 to 1.4 points per post. So you need a maximum of 71 posts to get to 100. If it only took 50 posts to get to a 100 then they'd probably go broke with that price point. They wouldn't be able to pay the writers with that margin.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I do agree at .05 you need 100 posts to make $5. And it depends on the current point conversion used if it's 1.2 to a point then you need about 85 posts to reach the $5 minimum withdrawable amount.

'm working online! I have tried so many things and they have all paid out. I work as an Internet Assessor for Lionbridge (part-time job). They provide me with google results and I rate them according to their guidelines. This company is legit and they have already paid me. I also work on paid-to-post forums. These forums give you credits for every contribution you make and then you can exchange those credits for real cash. Most of them use PayPal to pay the members.
I also work as a freelance writer and translator. There are so many websites that offer these services and in so many different languages, so if you know two languages or more, you'll be making a good amount. I also do transcription. I am a transcriptionist and I transcribe audio files. The pay rates are good and if you're good with transcription, you can make a good amount of money just transcribing.

You can try working at content writing sites like iWriter. Most of these sites that hire freelance writers don't pay well at all. I'd highly recommend that you check into writing for blog sites that actually pay you to write posts for their site. Crack is one of the top blog sites that you can write for that will pay you $100 for an article published on the site. You have other sites that pay a lesser fee for articles written. You can always try writing for online magazines and the pay is decent if your article is published.

I'd recommend staying away from content writing sites like iWriters because the pay is low and it is difficult to find a good client or a decent job you'd like to do. You can also advertise your writing skill services on Fiverr. There are many freelance writers who go there to earn money.

Most of the sites that have good reputation do not accept writers outside US and Canada. There are some paid to post forums that do accept writers from all over the world , but usually they pay very less as compared to Textbroker and all other leading sites. Postloop is the best site I have worked till now . It is very easy to use and also pays well. Other than these sites I also occasionally do some translation work.

Cracked is one of the top blog sites that you can write for that will pay you $100 for an article published on the site.

It is really hard for someone to have their article accepted on Cracked.com but it is not impossible. The pay is good so it's well worth taking a stab. But before one does that, they need to read a lot of articles that have been posted on the site. Once you are familiar with the sort of content posted on the site and how it is written, it might easier to create something similar.

For those interested in writing for Cracked, "today i found out" is another site you should check out.

This is the first time I've heard about Cracked.com, years ago I was paid $100 per accepted article on a Top 10 site but I had to stop writing and concentrate in my work and after several years I tried to access my old account back but the site is now filled with writers so, that's one of my regrets. Im going to try cracked.com and see if it's any good.

I'll post a review of the site here after I'm done checking it out.

Watch out for Freelancer.com. They pull tricks so to speak. Your first withdrawal is held for 15 days, but it could me a month. Mine got postponed a week twice so it took a whole month and they said it was because I didn't have enough money to fulfill the withdrawal. Well, it was because I took a new milestone and they take their cut out immediately when you accept a new milestone, but there is nothing on their site that mentions it. Second, I followed their rules for withdrawal deadlines which was by Wednesday 5 pm new York time est/edt to process it the next day. Well, I finalized a request at 4:55 pm est new York time and it showed to process on Monday of next week. Their answer: well... It is based on what's in our system. I said ok, well my account shows it done and accepted at 4:55 pm. There again is nothing on their site about this saying that their system is different or that it is based on their system not real life times. I followed the deadline rules and they screwed me over. So basically, they surprise you in many ways, their info on site is not accurate or correct or is a lie, and they make excuses. I would not trust them. I can imagine the other surprises that freelancers experience.

Thanks for the heads up. I was browsing through the comment and I was thinking of checking them out later. I guess I'd better note this in checking their site.
