Do you believe readers make better writers?

I am a reader, I can remember my mother teaching me to read and the absolute joy I found in being able to read stories to myself. I can remember going to the library with my mom and my sisters and all of use choosing books to read.

When we got home we would all get stuck into our books and when we finished our own library books we would all swop until we had each read all the books which would often equal about 15 books in total.

Talk about bookworms right?

The interesting thing is that I am a blogger now, so I write for a living and I love it. I have also just written my first eBook for sale!

My older sister is a published author, she actually has physical books that have been published. She writes Sci-Fi Fantasy books which are awesome!

My younger sister works online, she doesn't write as such but she does need to do content creation for her website!

My belief is that people that have a love for reading most likely make better writers... what do you think?

Generally speaking I'd say that you have a point Lynne. But I don't believe it fits in every scenario and at every writer. I personally don't read much. I've never done that because I've never really liked it. I've been more of a "movie guy" so to speak but even so, I've still heard several times, both in School and during adulthood, that I'm good at captivate people who's reading my content. People often find themselves inside my stories and they can relate to the things I write, even though they might never been in a similar situation etc. - That's quite fascinating and it's amazing how much a few words can matter. I'm obviously not talking about grammar and punctuation right now, and I don't talk about writing in second languages or anything like that either. With all that being said, I still believe that readers will be better writers in general.

Interesting topic. Thank you!

Thanks Andre, well yes in general and not as a rule, for sure.

Reading expands ones vocabulary and also helps with spelling, grammar and punctuation skills too.

Do you know my husband is not English. He learned how to speak English watching Dallas as a kid LOL.

Dallas.. Wow. Do you believe readers make better writers?
Well, I learned English by both reading and watching movies and TV-shows, but I prefer watching movies. I often used English subtitles instead of Swedish ones, and I do this regularly nowadays too. Somehow, it's often easier to use English subtitles instead of Swedish due to the translators "google translate-like" translations. Do you believe readers make better writers?

Yes that's what he says LOL. Yes I am sure the subtitle translations are not great if they are like Google Translate.

Oh and accents, my hubby has a lovely accent Andre. I'm sure you do too.

I think it helps that you read a lot because your grammar improves and your vocabulary widens. Reading also makes you more knowledgeable about things and improves your imagination. I actually didn't have any desire for writing before but when I started reading a lot of novels, that's when I suddenly realized that I can be a writer.

I believe readers has the possibility to become better writers. Its because of the knowledge that they gained. They can carry it over when they are the ones writing now.

Reading is the most important part of getting a good grasp of the language, and believe me I know what I am saying! I used to hear my brother trying to teach the english language to students and he kept saying over and over again that they HAVE TO READ. Apart from learning the vocabulary you also get used to verbs and tenses, and many expressions. You will also be automatically building your writing skills in that language. I am a writer, and I am also a bookworm. I am not reading that much lately due to being busy, but I love reading.

Yes I can't remember the last book I read, it has been a long time! The other thing about writing and reading is that very often you will need to read a lot to research for your own writing.

I am finding lately that I am not reading fiction like I used to, but I read articles about online marketing and blogging and I read a lot of articles that my competition bring out. Then like I said when I need to research an article I have to do a lot of reading too.

I absolutely agree that readers do make better writers. It is very important to read a lot to improve your knowledge on your niche. In fact, most information on the Internet is text based, so we do absorb plenty of data. How we utilize this information is a different thing. Some writers like to use and apply styles from other writers to develop their own writing style. I think beginners usually try to shadow famous writers before being able to come out with their own content.

I absolutely believe that readers make for better writers. In fact I would go so far as to say that being an avid reader is essential to becoming a writer and developing your skills. Whether it's consciously or subconsciously, what you read is going to not only impact your style of writing but the quality of your spelling and grammar as well. I think the same goes for just about any art or skill.

Take music for example. I don't think there is a single great musician out there that doesn't listen to music. You can't expect to be a great musician if you have nothing to learn or be inspired from.

I agree that frequent readers make better writers. This is because, writing is just not about putting an idea across but also putting it in a manner that would be interesting to the reader. One needs to read far and wide so that they can learn how to build their sentence structure, create flow and even spice up your writing.

Besides frequent reading, also constant practice I believe is very vital. After reading a story, I try to summarize it in a better way, then try to come up with a better original version for myself.

Reading is learning. You can't learn anything in terms of writing if you aren't going to read first! It just doesn't make sense. Before you write something, you would somehow read about that certain topic and fill your brain with as many good and useful informations and data as much as possible. It would be best if you would also read from similar contents on whatever it is that you are about to write so that it would give you an idea and probably and advantage on where some writers go wrong and what they could've probably forgotten. But reading doesn't mean that you have to copy. Lol. Always be creative.

Absolutely. Your writing is a direct reflection upon what you have read and how well you have read it. You must develop your voice by experiencing other voices and measuring and understanding yourself against them. I think it has always been good for me to read really great stuff and then get jealous of it so that I push myself to write even better. Reading is the ingestion of voices. You devour and digest them, and they strengthen the muscles of your own writing.

Reading will certainly help anyone to become a better writer (after all, reading opens the door to a world full of infinite possibilities and this is an amazing thing) as long as they have the talent to know how to use the words correctly.

Words alone don't have strength... They need to be embedded in a coherent context in order to make sense, so... As much as you are a good reader, not everyone has the ability to do that in a right / properly way.

Absolutely. People who love to read and take in information and different terminology or terminologies make for excellent writers. That's the constant link. The better you read and the more frequently you read - the better writer you become. Not just in terms of words and expansive dialogue - but also inspirations for stories and new ideas.

I believe readers make better writers. I am not a reader myself and my writing in four years ago was evident that I was indeed not a reader. Compared to now when I have started to read more, my writing has improved.

Years back I was not really into reading books. I started reading books when I was in college. I am now a bookworm and I am always looking to buy or rent new books. I can say that reading books have definitely helped me to improve my written communication skills and I am also more creative.

I believe that readers can become great writers due to the fact that they read and have full knowledge on different topics and themes. I also believe that if you are a reader with a great imagination then you can become a writer. Sometimes readers shouldn't become writers unless they have ideas of their own because you don't want to read something and end up stealing all of someone's ideas. You have to know how to switch it up. Like me, for example. I consider myself a reader and I believe that I'm a great writer. I read for ideas but I have my own ideas as well. What I do is combine both ideas to create a bigger idea.

I don’t think being a reader can make you a writer but I believe that if you are a writer then reading can definitely make you a better writer. But, of course, it depends on the thing that you are reading. For articles or stories written by good writers, you tend to learn not only their style but also the words and terms they use which can help you in improving your craft. With the style, those nicely written manuscripts can also influence your writing and maybe you can consider yourself a good writer after some time of focusing on those kind of reading.

I beg to differ, because I do think that good readers can give an edge in writing. It's because an avid reader is constantly on a lookout for good material to read, hence this kind of familiarity in identifying quality compositions can help him compose very good content.

Yes definitely! As far as I know one way of enhancing our vocabulary is to read. So I can ensure you I you read a lot of articles or books, I guarantee it that it may improve your vocabulary and you are able to write lot of things and become a great writer.

Yes, reading does help extend your vocabulary and thus enhances your writing ability. A better reader does make a better writer. When you read a lot, you basically acquire a lot of knowledge which in turn will help you to write.

Congratulations on your ebook @Lynee. I love success stories. I also love the fact that you read as a family. In my family I am the only reader and it is lonely!

In my opinion readers make the best writers because as you read you interact with different words and you have an arsenal of vocabulary at your disposal. I also think because you have been exposed to so many of other people's stories and ideas, it's easier for you to create your own, as you know have the experience and the courage to write.

I totally agree with you. Reading a lot helps you to become a good writer. You can get inspiration from other people's work (doesn't mean copying other people's work). Also, you can also review other people's work and learn from their mistake or learn from their work.

I would have to agree with that. A person cannot be a good writer if he's not an avid reader because he would be blind not able to see, differentiate nor realize what constitutes good content. A good writer learns a lot in reading the writings of others.

I do agree that readers can be good writers because of the accumulated knowledge a reader collects in reading different kinds of materials over the years. This gives the reader familiarity in a lot of subjects and this becomes his edge in writing.

No matter what the topic is or how lengthy the project is, always make it a point to be as original as possible from the very scratch. Only in this way will you be able to impress your teacher and make your mark fully. For the actual refinement and polish in your online lab report help and online book report help, it is vital that you make an effort to revise it multiple times in the aim of detecting any mistakes. Once they are all pinpointed, then take the appropriate measures to remove them from assignment service in UK.
