Have You Ever Tried To Sell Ebooks Directly To Readers On Your Site?

One would ask, "why should you want to sell ebooks directly when there are plenty of distributors who reach more people than your website does?"

The answer simple. Unlike selling your book elsewhere you get to keep  all the money. No percentage of your sale is withheld as commission. And there is also the little matter of competition. There'll be no other competing ebooks that will be sold on your site which would translate to more sales.

It's something I'm considering but I'd like to know what your thoughts on this are first before I make my move.

This sounds a great idea. One needs to have more traffic on the website to do this profitably. If you do sell yourself it is more advantageous.

In connection with pocketing all profits, one has an interpersonal relationship with his clients. You may get a feedback to your ebooks directly.

This is exactly my point in being successful with selling the ebook on one's website. Without heavy traffic on the site consistently, there won't be much sales or order.

So, in as much as plans are made to sell the ebooks online, other strategies should be used to improve the site's traffic.

Strategy is needed in many fields in order to be successful. The old adage sums it all.

To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail.

Preparation is strategizing. It is the best policy for success

Well it's not really a bad idea. I think it depends how much traffic you get on your website. If you have a huge amount of traffic and followers then you should give it a try. Another thing is how confident you are to your E-book. Selling your E-books outright would have repercussions if there were certain individuals who won't like it for some reason or another. The danger in this is that, if these individuals leave comments that would harm your product, then there is a possibility of other followers reading them and falling for them. Then I think It would contaminate your own website leading to a loss of sale and reputation. But if you manage your site on daily basis you could always look out signs to avoid these. But if you have absolute faith in your product and you have a huge amount of traffic, then I see no reason why you shouldn't try selling on your own website.

I think it all depends on the quality of the staff that you want to sell to people. If you are used to prividing generally great content over time then I think people would appreciate having some more of it in an ebook.

Exactly, the sale of e-books online depends on the need of the people and what your content has to offer, if it's beneficial to them or not but in other to catch their heart the best way to do that is having a wonderful title and a beautiful cover that can even attract the uninterested buyers.

Yeaah I agree as well. When you brand the book properly it may attract masses some of whom would not have found out about it was it not for the great outlook. I also maintain that a great book is one that aligns with the audience properly. It has to resonate with their needs and desires making it easily saleable.

Beautiful covers certainly can pique the interest of people and compel them to buy the book. It’s hard for most writers however to design the perfect covers for their books. Since the cover can be used as marketing tool, I think writers should be willing to spend a little more than $5 to have someone design a great book cover for them.

Selling an e-book is not that simple because you have to find a website that has enough traffic and in the same niche of your content for people to notices it.

And base on some other factors like competition of a particular service in the e-book that is a situation where you have other people selling the same e-book service as you do, I think branding and design is necessary for an e-book to sell online.

If you have a good number of regular readers that you consider your following then I guess it is an advantage because as you mentioned, there is no commission and fees that you have to pay. Selling e-books is not an easy task because of the oversupply of e-books and the low demand since most topics are already found in free sites that have the information. But as I said, if you have a good number of followers then they can probably help you in spreading the word about your latest e-book.

It is all about having a high following on your site as this is what is going to make some of them to buy the book. It is not an easy task, but as long as you are going to be able to convince them, then it is all good to try.

I don't have an eBook. But I have seen a few blogs set up for the specific purpose of selling the blog publisher's books. Not just eBooks but books in any format. I'm sure this method works great!

Adding on to these comments. I was at another and Easy Digital Downloads was recommended.

I've had a look at Easy Digital Downloads. That you can use it free is exactly what I wanted to hear which means anyone with a wordpress blog can use the easy digital downloads plugin at no cost until you feel you'd like to spend more money for email reports and the like.

Thanks for sharing!

Well, I'm of the opinion that what matters most is the value and content quality of your ebook. If it's something that holds high information value, it's definitely going to turn up more sales on your website. Of course, you have to take into consideration that your website needs heavy traffic to boost your chances of selling your ebook.

Wow, I like your idea. It makes sense. You don't want to get just a portion of the reward from your hard-earned money. I like it. But, it is only possible if you have your avid followers. Also, it is a big task to gain a lot of subscribers or followers. thus, your effort has to be doubled or tripled.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Exactly! Without the followers which is equally the same thing as traffic, there is no way in hell that it's going to be possible to sell those ebooks on the website whether it's a blog or forum.

So, it's very paramount to build on the site traffic, members and even it's existing contents in order have so much to hold new subscribers that might likely purchase your ebook.

I have not tried this, but it is also dependent on how you want some things to work out. As long as I am concerned, once your website is that popular among people that are in the niche where you are dominating, then making some of these things happen is something that is pretty possible. So, the idea of selling your e-book directly using this means is based on that.

It is not a bad idea, but how can you boost your sales in this kind if business? How can you convince people that your work is good?

I haven't branched out to this, but it's a smart tactic when you do it yourself and don't have a middle man taking their slice of the profits too. It's definitely some food for thought if I do branch out into this myself - obviously I want to optimize my earnings, and it seems like selling them directly via my own site is the key to doing that.

I have never tried to this.I also think it depends on what niche your website is in. They are some niches where an E-book will not do as well. Also why sell it on your website? Why not sell it on Amazon or another site where books in your niche are popular and sold. I'm not sure I really like this idea unless you are an expert in your field and other people would actually be willing to read what you have written.

Not yet, I haven't tried that one, But I have plans on planning to do so in the near future. And if that happens I will feel really great.

It is a good idea. Traffic on your website would mean more profit also. I haven’t tried it yet. Nor I have a ebook to sell. But it also depends on the readers or visitors of your website. I don’t have a lot of traffic on my previous blog so I don’t think it would work for me.

Sharing ebooks can definitely be a very effective way of earning money online. If you are able to write an ebook on different subjects then that will be an added advantage. it's possible to offer ebooks for sale on various sites online if you are able to fulfill the criteria of each website. One can make good profits by selling ebooks on there own. You can also earn money by offering to write ebooks for others and earn good money from that

I have never tried to sell eBooks at the readers site but I think it would be a good idea since eBook nowadays are very popular and in demand, we can easily make a good profit from it as long as it is interesting and attractive to the readers. It is a good way to make some few bucks since people nowadays are making addicted to it.

I also don't get it why you have to sell it directly to people by your own when there is applications that distribute it easily. Maybe you can do it just to promote it with your close frends to tell them you have ebooks sell on a certain apps. But doing it all the time feel like uncomfortable.

Most of the people who offer eBooks online offer them for free. The ones that do sell their eBooks don't really sell well. I think it's been ingrained in everyone's mind because of the many people who offer free E-Books as an introductory to their business/product/service that E-Books are supposed to be free. In fact, I have only purchased a single time in my entire life because buying the physical book is a drag.

I really haven't tried this but I think the problem would be how to make your viewers buy the book you're selling? Usually that's the hard part.

I think that there is a point which was forgotten about the impact that your content has. When it is great then people will easily buy anything that you offer them where they can get more value and content which in a nutshell includes the books you have on the site. Besides there being limited competition, people do not have to guess what the book is about since they are already used to your content.

Not yet, because I don't publish books, tho I have plans to make my own book someday. I just need to enhance first my English and grammar skills.

If you have foolproof marketing strategies and you're confident you can promote your ebooks with your site on your own then go for it. There are a number of social media platforms that you can take advantage of for your books to reach your consumers. But keep in mind that there will be less stress if you get some professional help for the distribution of your books.

Hi there!

Yes, I had such experience, but I must say that it wasn't very successful. I want to be straight forward with you, for any campaign to be successful you must have an audience. Once you will have it then any campaign will have luck, not just the eBook one! ;)
