Yes! I agree that popular writers earn big amount of money. They have made a name in writing. Others will have chance too if they get promoted in advertisement.

Popular writers earn large amount of money mainly because they are popular. Affecting millions or maybe billions of people because of your works is a sure fire way in becoming rich. However, as writer we must not forget the reasons why we write. That reason is enough motivation for us to continue our struggles in being a writer. Just keep on writing and hopefully someday you will get famous because many peoples have been affected by your writings.

Being popular has many benefits. People that are popular are people in the media. Celebrities are popular. Political figures are popular. In writing there are people who are popular also.

Popular authors earn good money. If you combine the people who are popular with writing then the result will be explosion.

Before she hit it big with the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling wasn't a popular author. She went through depression and upheavals while writing the book before finally sitting down to compete them. It was hard work all the way but her persistence and spirit carried her through several rejections until she finally found a publishing company who will publish her work and the rest is history as we know it. Writers don't become big and popular overnight. Most have to pay their dues. It may take years before you can earn good money from your work and ideas. However, depending on your background and experience, you can make good money right on your first book if you can write a book with unique and compelling content that will be useful to a lot of people.

Wow an amazing and motivational story. In life nonetheless it is always wise to live knowing that you can never get lasting success without putting in the work for a prolonged period.

I would have to agree with you on 'you can make good money right on your first book if you can write a book with unique and compelling content that will be useful to a lot of people.' Basically it is not that easy to be popular in the field of writing because there are a lot of great and talented writers out there and the competition is high. Needless to say, some writers are changing their genre for a more benefiting career.

I also read J.K. Rowling's life story and it was really a touching one. It is indeed a very interesting and inspiring story not just for writers but for all people who are facing challenges and seem that no hopes in life. I honestly believe that, 'no pain no gain.' Challenges and trials are making us stronger.

That's exactly what I think about popular and non-popular writers when it comes to earning money out of their works. But I couldn't blame those popular writers whose works are popularly known worldwide because their works did really have a mass impact to people. I also admire the effort, the dedication, and the time they spent just to finish those lengthy stories. I guess what's more important to them is not actually the big money that may get but the recognition as a great writer and the satisfaction within themselves that they became popular because of their books or whatsoever it is. Talking about non-popular writers, I believe there are a lot of good writers out there who haven't been discovered by people. But I also believe that if your destiny to become a popular writer then you will become one.

I agree. Popular writers earn more than those writers who are just starting or who have not established their name yet. What audience first check is the author, if the writer is will known then I'm sure that they will pick it. That is the advantage of well-known writer that's why establishing our name is very important if we want to get successful as a writer.

I do try and remind myself that JK Rowling wasn't a known name before the Harry Potter series and she's now one of the richest people on the planet - so you can come from nothing and make something huge. But I do think you can still live comfortably even if you're not on a best-sellers list. It depends what you call good money, I guess - if we're talking millions then I don't know about that!

I feel that I am being realistic in thinking that I can earn decent money in writing. And you're correct that the popular writers started somewhere before they made it big. I think that it happens to a few exceptional people and a matter of fate. But it's not something that just landed on their doorstep. They had been through challenges they managed to overcome. Maybe with the same attitude, I can earn decent money even if it will not make me rich.

I agree, and JK Rowling's story for instance is pretty inspiring. From what I have read she was a single mother and struggling financially before she made it big with the Harry Potter series. I think it's part of what makes her success all the more heartwarming.

I agree that only popular writers can earn more than non-popular writers. If you are popular then it would not be hard for you to sell your books since people already recognized your work. Non-popular writers need to exert effort when it comes to marketing to get sales. But don't forget that all popular writers started from being non-popular. This means that an aspiring writer can be a popular author one day.

My opinion in this matter is the same like other commentators that popular writers earn large sum of money because they are 'popular.' Readers like to read books from 'popular writers' because they make good stories. However, some unpopular writers are earning good amount of money too because of freelancing jobs where they can show their passion, skills and talents in writing.

To an extent this is true. Potential clients judge you by the works you have already written. Normally when you have written for a well known publication, your work is displayed in public and people can judge for themselves. They also assume because you have written for a well known publication you must be good. However they are people who defy this rule and still make good money, e.g people who have direct clients or people who write for online writing accounts.

The popular writers are probably very good writers. They cannot be popular unless they are good.

However, there are some writers who know how to attract traffic. They do well and are popular. They may NIR be very good writers as such yet they earn big.

Popular writers are established and legendary. People known them for so long and they are very fanatic from the popular writing. They also adore the books from them and for that they obviously gets more money in the end. Whenever they decided to write a novel of book, theres a chance always that people who know him will buy the book and even recommend it to their friends to buy it. And even they try to do their novel in movie still everyone will watched it and will buy the book too because usually they compared the two and the popular writer still earned in the end.

True it is that popular writers and celebrities can earn more money from their books.

Nonetheless it is possible for any writer, as long as their writing is good enough, to earn a decent income from books they write. Since anyone can publish a book on Amazon, to sell an ebook you need to find people willing to buy that book. However, first you need to prove to them that you are a "good" writer. That's why you need a blog. It will be the place you show your prospective readers how good a writer you are. It's also the place where you get to promote your book.

The reason most writers get frustrated is because they expect to sell lots of books as soon as their book is published. Nothing good comes easy. You need to put in the work. And make sacrifices if you must. Offer your book as a free download? People do it all the time. And for some the exposure it gets them is good enough for them.

That would depend on what’s your opinion of “good money.” J.K Rowling is a somewhat exaggerated example considering that she literally made billions off of her books. The odds of making as much as her are pretty much nil. It’s one thing to sell a popular series of books, and it’s another to have them turn into a multi-billion-dollar franchise with its own movies, toys, Broadway shows, clothing, and theme parks.

According to statistics, the average writer/author earns about $26.64 an hour, which isn’t exactly small pickings. That’s at least $51,000 a year, and depending on where you live, that is a very livable wage. Then again, some people feel that if you aren’t wiping your butt with gold leaf and burning $100 bills for warmth, then you’re not living.

I’m happy with paying off a roof above my head, food to eat, and some minor luxuries and savings.

It all depends on how much time and effort you are willing to put on the field. I have been writing articles for the last 10 years and I managed to buy a car, pay Bills and pay for university. I will not say that you will get rich, plus now things are very different from what they were ten years ago.

In the last 3 years, the value of articles has decreased, however, if you get a couple good clients you will always have work coming. Usually, 500 words of content are Worth 5 dollars....I write in English and in Portuguese... I also write stories and proofread/translate. Finding People that will pay you 30 USD per article happens once in a lifetime...you will usually work with agencies that were outsourced to write. You get cash on the amount you write...you can find plenty of work at upwork, for example, but don't accept jobs that pay less than 3 dollars per article...also don't expect to get paid 10-30 an article cause that is just not realistic.

Yes, popular writers earn good money and yes there are so many good writers out there that doesn't earn as much as these populars writers do. Being able to sell your novel well to people is a factor that makes popular writers earn more. So, they should be an inspiration for all writers who want to be popular and earn big.

There are so many freelance sites that popular writers have edge over new writers because they have more experience and are good on the job. Even though new writers might have good writing skills but popular old writers have an better to offer.

You have mentioned celebrities and I guess they are more popular than real writers. In terms of sales and money it is the popularity that counts so a celebrity has a leverage even before he starts writing. With the promotion of his book, the celebrity can get offers from sponsors for the launching of the book. That is why celebrities should re-invent themselves to take advantage of their popularity that equates to money and more popularity in case they succeed on a second career.

Yes! You are right. Celebrities earn a lot of money in writing too. They are popular among their fans. Whatsoever they sell people are falling in line just to buy them

It is just that celebrities can easily sell books because of the popularity they already had and that's their greatest advantage among other good writers.

Seriously, it's what comes with being famous in the society today. When you are popular, you are definitely going to get lots of fans and who will definitely go to any extent in buying your book.

So, there is every possibility of getting lots of sales when you are popular. J.K. Rowling is a great writer and very popular today and he has made lots of money through his books. Fame definitely brings money.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Sure, J.K. is very popular now and almost anything she writes would be an instant hit, her having fans and enthusiasts alike. But really it is no wonder, since she has proven her skill and passion for writing. But she didn't really started with her pocket full. She was rejected as well many times before getting where she is now.

I believe we could get there someday. A lot of other writers are earning good money making ebooks without being popular first as well. I know we could make it too. we just have to keep at it.

J.K. Rowling didn't became an instant celebrity in the writing industry in a blink of an eye. Her book was not accepted by many publisher for so many times. Although, her books became a worldwide phenomena after turning them to big screen. I know there are great writers out there where yet to be discovered by many. Popular writers earned their money because they are entitled so. They work hard for their work and give their best to give his/her reader that hi/her money's worth.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Exactly! One don't get to be a popular writer in a day. It requires years of hard work, courage, bravely, dedication, commitment and determination to become successful in the writing field. So, when such writers begin to reap the benefits of their work, they shouldn't be questioned or seen as they are getting preferential treatment. They have worked for it and they deserve the best.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

With the help of social medias nowadays, I guess its not hard of these "good authors but not really popular" to promote their work. If their work is really great, a simple tweet from famous people could really help their career as a writer. It is just hard for the author from the past as it was very difficult for them to reach people unlike today. So, when author gets popular because of his/her work its because he or she is good, end of the discussion.

Some sites are definitely designed in such manner. Take for instance Fiverr, when you are new at offering writing services, it takes a lot of time before you start earning a decent amount of money from the site. New writers hardly get jobs to do. Clients prefer to deal with older writers.

You got a point and I agree with you. They also had their own failures and hardships before they reached their position right now. They also thought that it is impossible to be someone and to be known as someone. But after their hardworks and failures, it now paid off. I also believe that popular writers are the one who gets high pay. But I also believe that if you work hard, you can be a popular writer someday too. It takes a lot of hard work, right people and timing but it does not mean that it will be imposible. The perks of being a popular writer is that it is easier for you to launch your work and the people will patronize it. Unlike as a newbie writer, it takes a lot of effort to be recognized.

Not a lot of authors write books that get adapted to film like J. K. Rowling. Harper Lee, the lady who wrote: “To Kill a Mockingbird” wrote only one more book before she died. But her first book, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, set her up for the rest of her life. How many writers are that fortunate?

It depends on your definition of “good money”. If only popular writers earned good money there wouldn't be so many books for sale on Amazon with 1 star, 2 stars, 3 stars, 4 stars, and 5 stars ratings. Even if somebody bought your book, read it, thought it sucked and gave it 1 star, the author still earned money from the reader buying the book. Just sayin'.

My thoughts into this were divided. I mean, I would like to agree that popularity really sums up the capability of a writer to earn a good income but we cannot forget the fact that we are also capable of what they are capable to do. Everyone has their own break, they just have to work on it. For me, earning good income is just an extra prize for a writer, the real prize is that many people had known and read his story. It is a domino effect that good income might come after you become a popular writer but you have to work on it. They also have to be patient before they hit their peak of success.

I must be agree with this. Good writers will really have a good benefit and earn a good money since they are good in writing. Writing is very influential so I think they really deserve to earn as its also difficult to please people thru writings. I strongly disagree because even you are just a novice in writing if you invest a lot of time in writing and follow the write steps of how to earn profit you will get better in writing and at the same time earn money. I think that statement is partly true. For authors their previous works sell their future works. You are more likely to read something from someone you know than someone you don't. That's just facts and how everything is. For a new author you need to really promote yourself and show that your content is really unique. I think that the best way to get out there as an author is to get your work reviewed by others first. Based on others reviews you may have a chance.

Popular writers earn a big amount of money. I personally think that they deserve it. Popularity cannot be achieved overtime, I'm pretty sure, they worked hard for it, had sleepless nights, and experienced unavoidable headaches for their work. Also, the quality of the work affects their popularity. Great quality affects the amount of money that they earn. Thus, great writers deserve what they earn.

It has both logic and sense that popularity can be easily monetized. This is true to most popular and well experienced writers. The more readers and fans a writer has the more sales he'll get.

A good example is whenever a popular movie star or celebrity like Britney Spears, Matt Damon, Madonna and Steve Martin would write and publish a book, it becomes an instant success and easily earns them millions because they do have a very huge fan base.

Yes that is true. As in every field, the more popular you are the more is your potential to make big money. But it is also a fact that the popular writers don't gain there fame overnight. Before someone becomes popular he or she also goes through the same process and struggles that any other writer goes through. There talent and also there luck helps them in gaining popularity. I think that a good writer would never write anything with the intention of becoming popular. If there is quality in whatever you do and also if you have some amount of luck favouring you then chances of getting success are always there.

I agree with that. Of course if you are popular that is the time they will get to buy of your books. And to be popular you should be a very good writer. While doing on research on how to promote kindle books, I learned that there is this one app where you can offer your book as a free download. While that certainly won't make you any money, if the people who read your book like it this company will offer you a publishing deal.

Look at this:

When you share your novel on Inkitt, we analyze the engagement of your readers and offer high-performing novels a publishing deal

Write a riveting novel and you'll make money from it.

I think the point is that, if you are known as a writer it is easier for you to earn money if people know your work in terms of writing. For example I would think that t would be easier for someone like J.K rowling to earn money then someone unknown because people know her work. The major problem when recruiting someone to write is that, you don't know whether that person can write well or not. That's why the people who get the most work on sites like upwork are the people who already have many positive reviews of their writing.

True. But when J.K Rowling wrote her first book and tried to get it published, it got rejected. She was one of those writers who were lucky enough for the right person to see their manuscript afterwards.

So I suppose writers just should take risks. Send your manuscript to a publisher or agent. If it gets rejected, it is not the end of the world. If you are lucky, they'll offer you a publishing deal.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think I would disagree on this one. Writers hit big when they don't give up on their dreams. J.K. wasn't really popular before her hit magical series. She had a long way before she made it to where she is now. But I would like to emphasize it more: she did not gave up on her dream. On her passion for writing. That is why she did not stop writing even if she could already retire, being financially secured. She kept on writing and writing because she does not let go of her passion.

Writers could hit big if they don't give up. In the way things are today, a writer could find a lot of ways if he really want to make it big. Blogs are one. Writing E-books is another. But it all depends on how you plan to carry out what you dream of.

I agreed! The real question here is why they become a popular writer? I know the one of the many struggle of writers, i know all writers are good but if they dont have a "producer" they struggle on becoming a popular writer but if you have a great content then publish in some forum or your blogs or even you produce to yourself the publishing of your book/novel. I think you can become popular writer and "earn good money" . And last question, youve put a effort in your novel or blogs or any related on your writting?

Have to agree. Big time writers are the only ones who get paid really high. Small time writers don't get too much attention and get paid less as a result. It is quite unfair that popularity, as a writer, is the basis of how good a writer is and how much he/she should earn.

I agree with this. Once you become a good and popular writer you earn the good money you deserve. Every writer has a story to tell on how they were able to be where they stand as of now. One thing I have known of is J.K Rowling where her story was very interesting. Getting declined but still continuing her passion of writing. Becoming popular in writing will make you very famous indeed especially your book will be published in different places and countries. You will receive a big benefit for that.
