Sometimes it's hard to write poetry.  The hardest part is thinking of a good topic or subject.

I write poems depending on my feelings and inspiration during a day. I find it difficult to focus on a specific topic. I wrote things whatever comes out in mind . But, I noticed that mostly of my writings is about prayers. How I thank and asked guidance in God. I also write poem based on life's observation.

Poems about god is a good topic in a poem. It could inspire almost everyone about life when they feel down or lonely. You could learn from it on how to deal with our everyday life and just trust on what is god planning for you.

Yes, it's more easy to write because you know the feelings. You experience it everyday. There are always good moral values to ponder. I find it important to recognize God in everything we do. We owe everything to Him.

That's a good one, I haven't thought of that. Creating inspirational religious poetry that motivates people to do good is a very good idea.

I usually write acoustics. And so what I do, I open up a dictionary, cut to a page then look up the first word that strikes me. Then I make a poem out of each letter. This is good practice. I get to learn new words as well as practice writing poetry.

A good topic for poetry would be love. Love is the most simplest and easiest form of poetry. You can write many kinds of ways and forms of love depending on how you feel towards a person. It can be romantic love, tragic love or even happily ever after love. Poetry and love is something that go hand and hand always. This was the old and classic way of getting a girl.

This one is good too. We could make poem with our experiences about love from our family, friends or spouse as long as it involves love. It doesn't matter if good or bad experiences about it but as long as we could inspire people about what we've experience from the past.

Love would be a great subject for poetry since everyone experienced it. Their feelings and thoughts will be a good guidance to write. Expressing ideas is somehow a way to release stress. It is also better to share it to others hoping that it will give them inspiration. We learn from our experience and it's the best teacher.

The strong point about poems often lies in the choice of words. Good poems just come out from others.

I also like love poems, they flow easily and I feel at ease when writing. I don't need much research, I wrote from within.

I believe poetry is almost suitable for anything, but the most popular subjects are love or patriotism for a country. Sadly, poetry is not so popular anymore as it once was. I really hope that something can be done about it eventually.

There is a wide variety of topics about poems. We could choose on what we are dealing right now, some problems or happy thoughts that happened in our lives. It will be easy to make one if we take a topic from our experiences and use it to make one. I personally didn't make one poem but I used to make some phrases just to be motivated with I what problem I have now.

The best topic would be what you are feeling right now, poems are expression of oneself. Sometimes it better to write the topic that you have within you in that moment rather than searching for it. When we write what naturally comes to us, our work would be more organic and less forced.

The Cockroach Dance is one such poem. It just came. It warned people who do things in secret. They are like roaches who dance when it is dark

Is this "The Cockroach Dance" a book of poems that are interconnected? I searched for it and what came up is a book by the author Meja Mwangi. I read the description and it seems interesting enough for me to consider reading a few chapters of it. It has a free preview of until page 42 on goodreads as of this writing.

I agree with you. It is way to better to write whatever comes in mind. They are more wonderful and easily be done without any hassle compared to specific topic. Others, are good at it. Poems are nicely written depending on the mood and inspiration in a day.

Love. That's the only subject I can think of if ever I'll write poetry. I'm more into tech stuff, and if I write a poem about it, it will sound weird and dull. Who would want to read a poem about the latest gadget on the market?

A poem is just a poem If well constructed. Love gives the best subject for poetry because of emotion. My first poem was of love.

You're right. Anything that's in correlated with emotion is a good subject for poems to write about - Love, hate, fear, anger, envy, jealousy. The possibilities are endless.

I'm not really a poetry fan but I like certain poets enough to like their poetry. My best poet is Warsan Shire. If you listen to songs by Beyonce you will hear her quote her poetry at the begging of a song. I think the most important poet is poetry that describes experiences that have a lesson for all of us. For example for warsan she writes about a love lost and self esteem and I listen to her because I learn from her experience.

I have not read her poetry but I will look for them and read. Good poetry is spice to the soul.

I write poetry based on my mood and inspiration. It's easier for me to write something when everything is set right. I don't write poetry for the sake of just writing one. I need to be emotionally motivated and mentally stimulated in order for me to finish a poem. But everyone's different. Poems can be about anything! There's no limitations.

I used to write poems at the spur of the moment. Some poems written this way are quite good. I wrote one entitled 'The bigger in my toe'. Many people loved it.

Those are always the best. They're always raw with emotions that you can feel in every line. Now sir, I'm very curious about that poem you mentioned. The title is very interesting and makes me want to read it now. What are Good Topics or Subjects for Poetry?

Most of the time poet wrotes based on their emotions. They always try to pour out their soul in the poems that they wrote. Writing poems is not just like writing an essay, it is expressing their emotions. Inspired writers can always wrote good poems about anything. They can create a masterpiece out of nothing. However, great poets can never consider themselves as poets until they wrote a poem for God. Just like songwriters, they are not complete as songwriter until they can wrote a song for God. You can use your God-given talent to glorify Him through your craft.

Sometimes, I see love poetry as a cheap way to women's heart and it seems to be actually true especially when the woman in question appreciates poems.

She will definitely fall head over heels in love with your poems and would so give you her love and heart.

It depends upon a person. Sometimes it is base on the experience you encounter. If you are inspired because you are in love then you can write poem about love and what you feel about certain person. If you are frustrated with things happening to you then you can write all those disappointments you feel that day. If you are feeling happy then write about happy thoughts in a form of poetry that you are currently thinking.

I don't write poetry but I read poems. The usual subjects that I like to read when I was younger were the romantic poems that pertains to love. But in my adult years I prefer something that is not love. People in general or about the environment is nice to read so maybe it is good to write about the climate change that we are experiencing now or the pollution of the air. How about the recent forest fire in California?

I find that the best topics for poetry are the ones we feel strongest about. Poetry is one of those forms of literature that demand a truth that is deep, and sometimes, dark. This could possibly explain why some of the best poems in the world today were inspired by heartbreaking experiences the poets the poets went through.

My answer is find something you feel strongly and have something to say about, and then write a poem based on it.

I agree. This can actually work. It will be easier for you to write a poem if you will write about something that you already have experience of it or you are feeling it right now.

You can create good topics for poetry based on the situation or need of the moment. If you will celebrate Mother's Day, it's a good opportunity to write a poem for your mother or for all the mothers in the world. If you are in a crisis, you can write a poem of hope. If you are inlove, you can write poems of love. You can always find an inspiration around you.

Seriously, writing your poems on love is so very easy to get done because I personally believe that 99% of all of us have one love story and experiences or another, which gives any poet a direct bank of knowledge on the subject of love to write well on it.

Love is indeed an amazing and wonderful topic.

There are a lot of topics you could choose from. You can go with love or things that matters you the most. Just go with the topic that you like so that you won't have a hard time thinking about it. But I would go with love as a topic. It has more emotion to deliver and more words can descirbe love. Many people can relate in love because it is something that all people feel.

Seriously, I would like to mention that almost more than 89% of all the poetry writers whom I'm very familiar with are all focusing all of their time and effort on love subject matter with all their poems.

Personally, I feel that love is an already exhausted topic for further discussion. I would like to go with relationship over love topic.

Personally, I don't have any specific drills for my poetry topics. They come to me like an emotion and once I get the feelings, I would start writing immediately.

Although, I would prefer dwelling more on topics that are related to nature, romance and adventure.

Although my skill are still quite limited when it comes to poems. But if I were able to create it successfully, I would want to make a poem that would tackle the recent world problems like war and famine. These things would allow a person to become aware of such matters. The thing about literary works is that it isn't restricted to just emotions but education as well. And all the more that tackling such events is a combination of emotions and a story.

The best topic in poetry for me is "Love".
Certainly, all of us do really feels it. It's a very relatable topic. We sometimes over imagine how love will bring us to paradise even in the hardest time of our life. Just having that in our heart, burdens will lessen and in the end there's always sunshine after the rain.
"ALWAYS GIVE LOVE AND SHARE THE LOVE".
