Content Generation Idea: Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics
When it comes to coming up with
new content ideas for topics you can cover, this next idea is so obvious that you might just smack yourself for not doing it! Although this is no new idea and people have been using this trick for years for this reason. Still though, there are a lot of people that don't and don't even know that you can utilize
Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics for this reason or even how. Well since most people looking for content ideas are usually those that don't know about many such methods of going about that, it's likely this is an idea you've overlooked and not considered before!
But you can use your free
Google Webmaster Tools (Search Console) and
Google Analytics for this reason and it it's one of the best things to do for this reason (for content generation ideas) too. I actually do this quite a lot for my sites when needing ideas for new content to write for them. Why? Because they often tell you about what your content is ranking for and what content you need to focus on to pull in even more traffic for those same or similar keywords and synonyms of them that's why!
How to use Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics for New Content Ideas?
All it really takes is looking through your search traffic terms that show in either Webmaster Tools or Analytics. Here I'll provide a quick how to to navigating to both search term parts of each.
For Webmaster Tools (Search Console)
Go to Search Traffic / Search Analytics (or just go here
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/search-analytics?hl=en&siteUrl=https://yourwebsite.com/) replacing your https://yourwebsite.com with your actual website URL. Now just look at the keywords that show on that page. These will be actual search terms used by people that have typed and searched that in Google to find your site. Looking through these keywords will give you lots of ideas for content ideas! As an example, I just looked through mine (just literally) and see that someone typed "
venngage coupon" and then landing on my site. This tells me that I could cover a topic on that in much more detail and that would go on to bring me more traffic for that search term.
For Google Analytics
You may need to connect your Webmaster Tools to your Analytics account (console data sharing) first. But to see the keywords that are recorded as searches in Google Analytics, click on Acquisition / Search Console / Queries. Now from here, you can view the keywords (search terms) that are searched by people to find your site. Or a page or post on your site. Now just do the same thing as you did in Webmaster Tools. Just look at and through those keywords and you'll be able to find ideas for new content you can cover, ideas and inspiration just from those keyword searches alone!
And that's basically how you use Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics to come up with new content generation ideas! And this is another reason why you must absolutely be using both of these free Google services for your website. They provide so much insight into how Google sees your website which you can use to improve it. As well as a mine of information for content ideas too.
Do you use Google Webmaster Tools or Analytics for this reason?
