Many great articles and books that many famous published authors have written have been great because the authors of them well and truly studied the people they were writing about. Some of them lived, breathed and dreamed all things of that person they was writing about. Became their best friend even if they didn't know it!

And it was through this great amount of study that was put in on that person, or people! That helped them write such a great article or book upon it! I'm not talking about stalking them lol. And by doing that, you will earn people's respect. All you need to do is think about ways you can find out about them offline, whether it's finding out about gigs they're doing or events they're going to. You'll probably need the Internet for this too though.

Obviously, as said, I'm not talking about stalking people paparazzi style! lol. Don't go parking outside people's homes people it's not cool and you wouldn't like it? 10+ Ways to Find Inspiration for Writing: Studying People But that is one thing that it takes to be a great writer or author, someone that can study people and learn things about them which they can write about that nobody else has.

In response to this writer, studying people is a lost art in this current society unless it deals with an intelligence company who takes surveys or grocery stores who tries to draw their customers by their eating habits. In this respect, the art of studying people is an overkill, as investigators and merchants use a magnifying glass to hunt down consumers and study how to part a fool from their money.

As you have said in this article, CELL PHONES, THE INTERNET, and SOCIAL MEDIA has taken all the work out of the art of studying people, for the average person. From web sites like GOOGLE or Online Dating Sites, one can get detailed descriptions of individuals physical forms, social interests, employment activity, and family lineage, so that a person doesn't have to OBSERVE anyone. In their pursuit of a love connection, there's no need for using one's own FIVE SENSES, AFFECTIONS, or train of thought of observe other people, how they feel, or how they think. It seems that people have become devoid of their own thinking, emotions and caring affections, in order to LOOK AT another person and see how they behave, function, communicate, and feel.

This is not a rant, but a blogging observation on how you're re-educating individuals on the ART OF PEOPLE STUDYING. A deeper description on HOW to study people would be appreciated, for must have forgotten how to go deep. What are the steps, styles, and correct procedures on this craft. Your "paparazzi" description was okay, as the need to be reserved and subtle in watching others.

Studying people is good. You can learn a lot from studying people. You will know how to do things basing from the lives of others.

I must admit that I really do like people-watching. It is pretty interesting, and sometimes disturbing, to do so, but I get a lot of ideas for dialogue and plot, in my fiction writing especially, by observing social behaviors. Writing an article about a person, I think, would be hard no matter how long I have observed him or her. It is very hard to imagine or predict, with any accuracy, the true motives of a person, and the human animal is the mos complex and unpredictable subject that can be studied, I think. Even the smartest of us, at times, do not act with logic or rationale, and humans continue to surprise each other with their actions. Still, I think it would be a rewarding and interesting challenge to write about people and to demonstrate, in a mature and thoughtful way, the complexity and unique magnificence of the human condition.

The truth is that the behavior of humans can be quite complicated in the sense that one should see the need not to put much interest in understanding people. I just live my life in the way that I want and nothing more.

Barida,
Well, I don't pretend to understand the behaviors of people, so let me make that clear. I think people are interesting because of how strangely unique they all are as individuals. The best way to "observe" someone, I think, is to engage them in conversation. Then, you really can get a little bit closer to understanding them if they are transparent and are willing to be honest in their communications. I can't afford to live my life like I want yet (ha ha), but I am true to myself, and I try to be authentic with others. In either case, writing content about the behaviors of others might be interesting, but I've only personally done so in works of fiction.

Reading people can be such a difficult task in the sense that one should see the need to see the pains and joys around people, but there is need to be careful for humans can be complex when studying.

Right--also, you should never judge. Also, you should never jump to conclusions about another person. However, observing people in order to find inspiration as a person, as if appreciating the human spirit and the human condition, well, I think that that is something which it is okay to create content about, and this can lead to revelations, at times, about one's self.

I once had attended a writing workshop as a sit-in participant just to be able to observe. The lecturer was advising the participants to study people they don’t know. For an effective data gathering, it would be good if you can talk to the subject person after listing down your evaluation. For example a guy that you think is single and has no job, list that down and confirm with the guy. It’s not an easy way to get inspiration but the lecturer said that it is guaranteed that you will have new ideas for writing.

I think that this is an excellent content idea. I love history and as you read about the different people who have been and gone from the bible to people like Alexandra the great, you realize that there is so much to learn. The characters in history lived through different times, but they faced the same problems and stresses of life. This topic is really broad and you can learn both good and bad things about people.

People and a their lifestyles make great writing. You have outlined here good points of studying people. I have also written some articles inspired by studying people. Since am also a dramatist, unless you are able to read some human traits then it will be hard to act.

I'm sure many writers won't mind doing this assignment but I don't really want to study people and write about them. I have done this 3 times and each time the people were very pleased with the results of my written work. The problem is that the website shut down where the articles were published shut down. I tried to republish elsewhere and that site shut down. I finally published my content at my blogs but by that time I was disgusted. Because the people shared the links to the other sites; and it was really frustrating that my articles kept getting unpublished. Anyway! Not your problem. But I just wanted to moan and groan about it. LOL.
