What Ebooks Do You Perfer?

When looking for content to download or buy, I was curious as to what you all prefer in ebooks? What sorts of ebooks do you purchase and why? What is your favorite type of ebook to buy and read?

Well, my favorite type of e-book is a free one, haha. But joking aside. I don't really purchase e-books too often since you can find or download them for free extremely easily. Plus, I don't tend to get story type of books in the digital form. I prefer the classic, paper books where I can hold them in my hands.

Therefore, the e-books that I do read are usually related to my hobbies or interests - technology and new gadgets. Perhaps some tricks, interesting studies and so on.

That was funny, Tronia. of course the free ones are appealing, and I have been known to pick up a free one that was not in my field of interest, necessarily, just because it WAS free, lol. I also, like you, prefer hard copy, but sometimes an ebook is so cheap and convenient to grab, especially when I desire to have access to the content right away, that I just go ahead and purchase it and go from there. i have a huge hard copy library in my house, and that could never be replaced, but the ebook is a nice supplement to my regular reading habits now and then.

Unlike some people in this thread I am picky and have a good income. I want a book that will not waste my time rather than a book that is cheap or free. My process in buying an ebook, which I do at least weekly, is to go to Amazon and look for new releases by my favorite authors, work that is similar in subject and tone, or anything that catches my eye. For a book I am confident i will enjoy anything up to about $12 is fine. I mostly read fantasy and non-fiction in whatever subject is currently catching my fancy. The way I see it you tend to get what you pay for and I am way past eating out of dumpsters.

Yeah I look really hard for any free e-books out there, as I find reading books through a device kind of tiring; I'd rather watch a video or documentary about the subject than spend time reading an ebook.

I prefer educational books. I don't mean general learning books. I'm referring to books that teach you about specific knowledge. Things you won't learn easily without reading about them.

Me too. Who does not want free anyway?
I prefer any free e-book. I love to read and I am not picky. Whatever it is as long as free. I will grab it and read it right away.

Yeah, I do agree the best ones are the free ones haha. I like comic type ebooks and also anything cooking or food related where I can learn new recipes.

First of all, I would like to apologize for my spelling error above in my post. I obviously did not see that when I started this discussion. Is there any way that I can edit this because it is pretty embarrassing! I am an English professor, so I should darn well know better, but somehow this one slipped by me yesterday--I am just going to blame it on the cold medicine I was taking for the winter attack on my sinuses.

Hahaha, no one is saying you did wrong with your spellings, not at all you tried a lot and I like your thread anyway, I get to make a whole lot of mistakes too here and the funniest part is that there is no way for editing. I think maybe we could sue the forum owners by ourselves so next they could change the writing context to have editing in it, lol.

I love free e-books too, like who doesn't like free things, one thing I look at when downloading free e-books is firstly the cover pages this kind of things capture my attention. Secondly the title of an e-book captures my attention, if I don't get to feel the title of the e-book I won't buy nor download it, the reviews and ratings by the site who has it depends on my response because I love books with good ratings and reviews. All these things I listed above matters when am buying or downloading e-books, others have their own opinions too, like the saying goes different strokes for different folks.

JoeMilford
Well, i am not mad at the admins of the forums--I am mad at myself for being careless as an editor and making such a mistake, lol. I guess that everyone loves free stuff, but, like you, I do gravitate towards titles which pique my interests and which are about topics that I want to be more informed and informed about. i think that some reviews are useful, but I have found that, often, they can be a bit misleading because they are being written by people who are biased or maybe even associates of the writers of the ebooks themselves.

You are right in a way, I didn't think that way because I was just too carried away with the thought of having free ebooks 😂😂😂, I am thinking of what you said. Book ratings can be fraudulent sometimes, there are some people who didn't go through it but just decided to review and rate too since they were asked to or saw others rating, these are those disadvantages that have become so rampant on the net.

I also like free ebooks. We all love free things and that's okay. I am also happy to learn some tips from you for downloading ebooks.

I like free ebooks too. It's nice that there are copies of relevant books to get on the internet. I like both fiction and non-fiction books. I learn a lot from them. That's why it's easier to get a hard-copy. It's because you're confident in what's written. You've already read it.

Honestly, try not to worry if there was a spelling mistake, do you use Google Chrome. Why not use Grammarly for a free extension for chrome it highlights words as you type so you can get the perfect grammar and spelling mistakes sorted straight away. But, don't worry about it mate it happens from time to time especially typos.

I'm not a fan of ebooks, but if it comes to the type I would prefer, I will certainly go for the motivational ebooks that are not that expensive. I also enjoy reading ebooks that talks about personal experiences of the authors for it helps me to get better.

I think this is a good choice for an ebook when compared against buying a physical book because inspirational books in digital form allows you to jump to another program when you find an idea or an inspiration whereas if you were reading a physical book you'd most likely need to mark it down and come back to it later. I think I would also like this genre in digital form even though I almost always prefer the physical counterpart.

I prefer anything in the horror, supernatural, paranormal, thriller or sci-fi genres. That's when it comes to ebooks or just books in general.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

This is really great that you prefer such ebooks that are all about horror and fear. I might not feel comfortable reading such ebooks even at my age in life.

I think horror is the most creative-heavy genre of film, book and overall content out there. The stories have no bounds and the possibilities for new stories and ideas are endless. They make for great content to read or watch.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have mentioned this to you before, Judas2018, but I am also a huge fan of the horror genre--I love the paranormal and supernatural. I am even watching Ghost Adventures with my mother right now on Christmas at her behest, so I guess that it runs in the family. If you could recommend any good horror ebooks, especially free ones, I would love to look into those. Overall, though, I am with you on this genre, and I am going to research horror blogs and ebooks just as soon as I get somewhat caught up on my workload.

I don't really read all that much but you're right in that horror and thriller are the genres that are great in book form since you get to imagine the scenario in your head which makes the suspense way more potent. I feel like watching movies in these genres makes the feeling a bit diminished since you are watching someone else's interpretation and seeing it on screen is not nearly as scary as just having the scenario in your head.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Baburra,
I agree--I have often found that the images I conjure up in my imagination, and the suspense that experience in the reading act, is much more scary and potent than a director's presentation or a cinematic team with their special effects, etc. I do love special effects and going to the movies--it is one of my favorite things to do. However, my mind likes to indulge in creating these worlds while I read, and it can be pretty intense.

Ebooks with a history plot is what I normally appreciate most. I do download free ones as well pay for some depending on on how interesting the ebook content appears to be. The world is taking a huge shift from manual books to electronic books and I deem it fit to move with the trend and not be left behind.

I like to buy children's books in ebook form because they are a little bit more disposable in my opinion since they are just short and can be finished in a shorter time period, and eventually the kids will just move on and find something else to be interested in so having it in digital form removes the element of clutter, whereas adult books are good to keep in collections. Also, I myself prefer having a physical book to read and kids in this modern era don't really mind it either way and plus it's easier to read a tablet in the dark at night time anyway when you are about to sleep so it's better for reading to kids before they go to sleep.

I never thought about this idea, really--that using ebooks for certain purposes reduces those piles of books which, once they've been read or fallen out of love with, just take up space and become dusty and yellow over the years. I do like the idea of a hard copy library and archive, though, so that I can pass that on to my family. In any case, using my kindle more would be a more efficient way to store and process reading materials for me and my household.

The digital movement from email, to documents to books and comic books, to paying bills - has always been about reducing waste and avoiding using so much paper. I still buy physical books but they're mostly tutorial, true crime or biography reads.

As a professor, I can tell you that using electronic textbooks for the students in my online classes has not only "reduced waste" and inventory, but it has also ensured that the students have their books when the classes start and they have access to electronic versions of the texts which they need to be reading. I think this is also an eco-friendly thing, as well, but it really has changed academia, in my experience, over the last few years.

I'm sure it has. You can't use the 'I don't have my books with me' excuse when your book is on the inside of a computer, tablet or hand-held device.

I prefer self-help ebooks and guides on how to. It is amazing what things you can learn with some ebooks. Also, there are many free ebooks online just search on google. Many people make affiliate sites through Amazon onto WordPress offering ebooks and earning commission also kindle.

It's also one of my favorite things about ebooks which is that you can more easily find ones for free. I think I have never seen a physical book that I could just pick up for free but with the digital book market there are tons. I honestly prefer physical books as much as possible but when it's free obviously I would take the digital copy hands down.

"Free" is always the best price, right? Unless the price reflects the poor quality of the purchase. In other words, if it is not worth paying for because the content is shabby. Still, like you, I have found a lot of really cool ebooks, especially copyright free stuff for my Kindle, and I am going to to take some of your suggestions here and explore a bit more in the digital market because I have a feeling there are some books and guides out there that are either free or relatively affordable which I could really use to augment my studies and pursuits.

"I prefer self-help ebooks and guides on how to."

I'm actually in the same boat as you! Almost everything I read is exclusively about self improvement or instructions regarding certain skills such as writing, drawing, gardening, and such.

The truth is that I've never really been all that into novels. They're just another time killer for me, like watching television or playing video games. When I read, I want to learn something, whether it is with regards to improving my own mind or a skill I have.

We just have to be careful though, because a lot of people are trying to get in on the "self help" craze and publish a lot of unhelpful trash.

I like self-help books too. I just found out this year that these are the kinds of books that I really like reading. I also like personal finance books. I think they are somewhat considered as self-help books because they improve your financial IQ.

I just read anything that interest me specially with eBooks. Since there are lots of free downloading eBooks in the market, I just select and read the ones that could compensate my free time. Though mostly, I check out eBooks that entails real life story. The struggle and journey are something that I always look forward to. I also like adventures and travel stuffs whether if is a story, a guide or just an itinerary which can tells the experience and the explorations. What Ebooks Do You Perfer?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Ebooks talking about real life stories can be a way that one could be motivated especially, if the person is facing similar challenges at that point in time as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I think that is also a very good thing to write about--we can all relate to the human struggle to survive and to succeed, and we all have our own approaches and styles of living when it comes to this. I often find that I am inspired by such blogs or content because it reminds me that, if others can make it through intense struggles, then I CAN TOO. Maybe that is one of the reasons many of us like such content. I also think that every new person your read or meet has the opportunity to teach you something, so we should all stay open-minded to that kind of content at all times.

"Though mostly, I check out eBooks that entails real life story. The struggle and journey are something that I always look forward to."

I kind of agree with this! For the most part, I'm actually no a huge fan of novels. Fiction doesn't really interest me, as I feel that I don't really get much out of it in terms of knowledge/education. However, I do like non-fiction stories that involve real world people and events. It allows to get a deeper understanding of someone's experience and relate to it in a way that might help me in the future.

The ebooks I prefer are science related. Like studying the body, nature, behavioral aspects and about other living things. I also like ebooks about health and how to stay healthy or treat ourselves with home remedies.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
I too am very in love with reading anything I can about science, and I actually get a lot of ideas for my blogs and poetry from reading science-based content and ebooks. As long as the information is well-researched and well-presented, I can really get a lot out of this genre. I am inspired constantly about the things in this world which we are still discovering and trying to understand, so reading peoples' content about this type of exploration is inspiring to me.

I also prefer to have free ebook samples of new authors. I realize authors need to make a living too so I am quite willing to buy the ebooks, but I will not purchase anything from an unknown author without having some sort of sample first. There are many very talented writers self-publishing but also many who simply have no ability. I can tolerate grammar and editing mistakes as long as the plot and story catch my interest but that does not work the other direction. Perfect formatting, spelling, and grammar are meaningless without the content. I'm a huge science fiction and fantasy reader and that has been a life-long pursuit. I enjoy horror as well and I have found many new self-published authors in that genre. I'm willing to pay for good content in any of those three genres while other genres such as thrillers, crime novels, courtroom drama, or romance are just not of any interest to me. I never even look at them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
NERLJ,
I also agree with you that it is important for authors to receive credit and acknowledgment for their work, especially when they ARE creating decent or exceptional content. I do love fiction and the sub-genres of fiction that you also appreciate, sci-fi and fantasy. If the writers of this content who are out there are doing a great job in spinning their tales, and if they enrich our reading experiences and out imaginations, then they most definitely be financially compensated for their efforts. I am also willing to pay for those types of books if they are of quality, but I also do indulge in free materials, in terms of ebooks as well.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Judas2018
I disagree slightly with that approach and attitude. I think spending money on unknown authors can be a risk? Much like seeing a film from an unknown director. But if that author has created a story that resides within a genre that you like or enjoy? Then I think plopping down a few bucks for an e-book is a worthy investment.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

JoeMilford
Yes, but sometimes, don't you think you should be willing to be spontaneous and take a chance? Especially if the ebook is cheap or free. I understand if it's like dropping forty bucks at the movie theater, but I think that it is fun to pick something up you are not sure of or familiar with and give it a chance--you never know--you might end up absolutely loving it!

I prefer ebooks that teach you something. Like ebooks about web servers (Linux), history, biographies, etc. I just can't get into fantasy novels, they just don't do anything for me. I prefer to sit down after a nice dinner and sit down an relax and learn something new that I didn't know.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Taking a risk is fine, as long as it's a risk of purchasing something within a genre you like. If you like sci-fi for example, and are thinking of buying work from an unknown author who writes sci-fi, it might be worth the chance taken. But if you are buying a drama ebook, and you aren't as much of a drama fan - then it's best to pass. Seeing as how you are VERY picky about drama ebooks considering drama is a genre you only dabble in, not consume regularly and ferociously.
