How you become a writer?

As I was watching the animated movie "Ratatouille" I was struck by the words "anyone can cook." Is it the same with writing? Is anyone can write? Those were the words that I keep on asking. Nonetheless, we all know that writing is not a walk in the park. It requires skills, knowledge and passion. Can you share how you become a writer or what influence you to become a writer?

As early as 10 years old, I already became a writer. I was on my 4th grade in elementary when I discovered campus journalism. I started competing in press conferences, both local and national level. Back then, I was naive and doesn't have any idea about writing. eventually, after a decade of experience, I am proud to say that it is easier for me to write journal articles, essays and speeches. I must say that my experiences are the main factor on my improvement on the field of writing.

That's really nice. It's like you were made for this. I'm sure we've all started somewhere humble. Like in elementary school. The way we become fully matured writers is through experience and dedication.

There was this time in college that I used to contribute to the college msgazine. Later it was to come I started writing online to the then defunct Bubblews. Producing 100 characters was hard to begin with. Then I became creative and became good at the job.

Writers may be born or made. I do not know which class I belong to, but am a writer.

Seriously, I don't believe that a writer can be born. Yes, one might be born with the skill but if you don't work towards brushing up that skill of writing, you are definitely never going to become a good writer.

It's just like gold, when it doesn't enter fire, its beauty will never show up. So, if you don't work on your writing skills, it will never be perfect.

I agree with what you said. To become a good writer one needs to develop their skills. One needs to improve their skills.

I agree with you. One may be born with talent, but being able to polish it so he could possess an impressive skill takes time and practice.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
It really does. I've done a lot of reading since I was young. But it's not good enough since I haven't written that much. You have to learn these skills as you navigate the difficulties in life.

There will be days when you want to give up writing. But as soon as you get enough rest, you will realize how much it means to you.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's true. Writing is a process of continuous progress. Yes, some of us may start off with a talent for it since birth. But like you said, not doing anything to improve it will prevent us from reaching our full potential.

I think talent is more on the creative side of things. Writing is more of a learned skill in general. Because anyone with enough training and motivation can write articles.

But not everyone can write good fiction or poetry.

You are absolutely correct. One must work on his or her writing skills to become a good writer. Actually, this applies to every skill. You must keep on advancing and polishing the skill to be perfect or near perfect.
It's just like gold when it doesn't enter the fire, its beauty will never show up. So, if you don't work on your writing skills, it will never be perfect.
This saying keeps me going whenever I am faced by challenges in life.

I think we become writers through our education. Our education from nursery to college taught as to write. Writing is very easy. But I believe that those who write books, magazines, news are professional writers that really brought their writing to a higher level.

I also think that writers can both be born or made as there are some people who love reading or are fascinated by certain aspects of society and they will be drawn into writing naturally. There are also those who get insights from others or bloom late.

Ratatouille is an amazing animation movie of a rat that have a human sense for cooking and the spirit of Gustave in his mind made it possible for the rat to realize his cooking goals.

Now, when it comes to writing, it's very possible for anyone to write if they are willing to learn and keep practicing till they get better at it.

Absolutely. Anyone who desires to be a writer can be a writer if he pursue it. Though writing requires knowledge, skills and passion, it sets no limit to anyone who wishes to be a writer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
I think anyone can. We're all writers to a lesser or greater extent. What matters most is that you write honestly. Knowing who you are and what you want to write about goes a long way. We continue to become writers if we keep writing for the rest of our lives. Whether it be by profession or hobby.

I agree with you that everyone can write since we only differ on the way we do writing on our own because others write mainly just to have some fun while others are writing just to earn some money. We really differ on purpose and on the certain amount of passion that we exert in every writing that we are making.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yea people write for fun while other write for money but oh thing link them together is that they share a certain experience to the World through their pen.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
You're right. The mighty pen represents the writer's strongest weapon. Words have the ability to change things for better or for worse. That is why we must be careful with how we use them.

Choosing the right words will show how much we've developed as writers. Experience shows through our own writing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's right. We're also different when it comes to talent and skill level. Experienced professionals have absolutely stunning writing. It's so easy to read and very informative. Not to mention they're very entertaining.

Amateurs like me have relatively mediocre writing. But it doesn't stop there. The more we continue to write, the better we become at it eventually.

I think everyone poses a writing spirit of has the ability to write not just selected few, we experience life every day and writing your daily experiences in a creative way is something everyone can do.

I agree. Creative writing is the most basic yet deepest form of writing. This proves that any of us can write. Even starting from an early age. Of course it wouldn't be as good as when we're adults.

But writing stories is a simple creative thing any of us can do.

I was eight years old and wrote a poem when President Kennedy died. My parents liked it and I got the idea I was a poet and kept writing poems. My mum wrote them all in an excersise book and from then on I was convinced I had writing talent.

I don't think anyone can be a writer although anyone can study writing and can write but cannot be considered a writer. Writing is an art especially with literature and fiction that you can learn the rudiments of writing like the grammar and sentence construction but you cannot inject the exciting elements that writer have in their stories. But maybe it is easier to be an article writer because you are just writing facts and there is not much importance in the sequencing.

I agree with you, anyone can study how to write, the structure and other things, but writing is not just about technicality, it is also about connection with the readers and art to make the article or piece really great to read. Which is not everyone can do it.

In my opinion, anyone can have a say. But conveying your thought in a coherent manner is a different matter. To write is to communicate your thoughts in hopes that it may incite feelings or ideas to your readers. This may be attained by anyone but it requires mastery of skills.

I never really thought that being a content writer will be a part of my career life. Although when I was a kid, I enjoy writing stories and making comic book of my own, it never cross my mind that I will be doing this as one of my source of income. I was introduced to writing by my previous company supervisor. He have a friend who is looking for freelance home based writers. That time I just transferred to another country where my husband works. I was just starting to look for a job so I grabbed the opportunity to apply for the writing job. I submitted a content and luckily it passed. Since then, I write daily articles from product reviews, description, website content, travel and marketing. I searched for other clients as well to increase my option of writing jobs to take.

I believe that writing requires one to have the love to write. I don't always look at the things that comes with writing as a way that I should be enjoying it when I know that it may not really bring the best when I don't have the passion to keep writing as well.

Well, for me, an aspiring writer has to have the will power to do what a writer does. Being able to achieve the title of a successful writer requires one to constantly practice, and be open-minded to everything, whether it's a new learning or a constructive criticism. You have to polish your skill and use it properly, one may know how to write, but not everyone can build their own castle.

I don't know if I would call myself a writer. What is a writer. A writer is someone who truly loves to writer. I would say that this is my job and a way to make money. I think that a real writer, writes books The real writers are journalists, authors like J.K.Rowlings and Danielle Steele. I think that a real writer feels compelled to write. There is something in you, a story that you must tell the world. The rest of us are just diluting the field to make money.

A writer is someone who writes if we take it's meaning literally. But what I think is that, a writer is someone who writes to express his thoughts. Every one can be a writer as long as there is a meaning behind his or her work. Every one can be a writer as long as there is a reason or purpose behind his or her writing.

I used to love reading ever since I was a child and so naturally I was good at writing since I could transfer a lot of styles and modes that I saw in books. In high school, I had some nice fantasy compositions that everyone loved to read. If I ever became serious I think I would have gone on to movies maybe creating stories and writing or stuff like that.

To become a writer, you only need to develop a passion for writing. Once you have developed the passion, start perfecting the art by reading books and blogs from various writers. Finally, start writing your own blogs and give them to friends for correction.

Continue polishing the skill and within a short duration, you will have gained the confidence to write. Basically, practice will make you perfect if you have passion.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
I agree with you that passion is one reason that makes us motivated to push for writing, if we really have a strong passion all that we do then surely we can easily reach our goal. We must have a wide interest on writing so that we can enjoy it and continue it for a longer period of time. It is really hard to push for things that we don't have the passion especially if the money is the only thing that keep us working s writer because it will just give us temporary joy and commitments.

Finally, start writing your own blogs and give them to friends for correction.

In addition to this I'd also recommend joining a writers forum.

More experienced writers (some of them who've had books and many articles published) will review what you write and offer constructive feedback that will help you improve.

Sure writers groups on social media sites might work too but a forum is more interactive. Unfortunately there aren't many active writers forums anymore.

Well, I kind of fell into it. I'd always loved writing, even as a child, but I didn't know I'd end up doing freelance writing. It was just that when I was a stay at home mom with my children I needed a way to do some work from home to help my family.

It's a really wonderful thing that I've been able to turn something I really enjoy doing to something than earns an income.

I am not sure in the statement "anyone can write" or cook?? I am the first person who really doesn't know how to cook. If you want to write you have to be: Inspired, imaginative, educated (good grammar and spelling are also very important). As you can see this are the things many people don't have. But of course everything can be taught, so if you want to write you must first READ, like a lot.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I have never thought that I would enjoy it so much and would helps me to buy things that I want. it was the time that I started to become a writer since I have gain some confidence on myself that I can make it and I will make it to happen.

That's nice to know. Confidence comes from experience and trusting one's self. We become better writers as we continue our daily exercises in writing. These challenges enhance our skills. That way, we get to write about more complex stuff in the long run.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
Yes that is really true and that is why having some confidence on my work and creation helps me to become a better person in this generation. I just realize that if we really believe on our selves then everything that are impossible might be possible to be achieved which is really a good thing to know about.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, confidence is a natural part of continuous effort. Because you know it in yourself that you're doing everything you can to succeed. You're not just playing around with writing.

You're doing whatever it takes to succeed. Especially, the hard stuff.

For me, I believe anyone can be anything. Everything can be learned as long as you are driven and passionate about what you want to be. Of course, you don't get to be successful in it overnight, and it would take a lot of time and hard work for one to reach the top.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's true. As long as we try and keep at it, nothing is impossible. We can succeed in all departments of life. But we must also choose the right path for us. That's why others become much more successful after they've found what's truly for them.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I couldn't agree more. I guess to be successful in career, one must do what he or she is excellent at doing. For example, one might not like programming but if he is so good at it, you need to pursue. I'm sure over time, he or she will get to love it as it's his source of income.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's right. We're used to thinking that we have to love stuff at first glance. Like it has to be immediate. But we soon realize that love for something is like romance.

You start small and gradually build towards it. One day you realize that you actually love doing what you're good at.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It's just that some people will tell you that you need to take a profession that you are passionate about. But what if you're passionate about something, but you're not good at it? Will you be able to earn from it? So it should be what you're good at.

Everyone can write, but not everyone can become a "writer", a writer that inspires, informs, etc. Being a writer requires skills and talent with the combination of passion.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
It all comes down to how we define what makes a writer. So if your definition is more inclusive, then definitely everyone is. But if you're talking about quality writing, you'll be hard pressed to find people who actually qualify for it. Even active writers find it difficult to reach the so called standards of writing.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
I agree. It takes passion and effort to be a good writer. Yes, everyone cane write but not everyone will be able to write and successfully inspire other people. Writing might seem to be easy, but it isn't. It requires determination and effort to come out with a good and effective content.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Can everyone write? Yeah, anyone can write. But can everyone write well? No.

You've probably heard of the 10,000 hour rule. The whole point of it is if you put a lot of time and effort into learning something, you'll eventually be proficient at whatever it is you were learning. That means if you are interested in learning how to write and actually do something about it, after some time you'll be a better writer. Fact is even "born" writers have to hone their skills.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
So true. I just remembered that ten thousand hours rule. No wonder people become great at something the longer they do it. I remember reading about an article on proficiency.

They conducted a very thorough test to determine if someone who tried to perfect something could do better than someone who regularly did it.

The result was illuminating. It revealed that those who tried to perfect what they were doing on their first try weren't impressive. But those who kept doing it regularly and allowed themselves to make mistakes became much better.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Jeane
And this is why it is important for every neophyte to have a mentor. In order to make progress you'd need someone to guide you, point out the mistakes you make so by correcting and avoiding them you'll gradually get to be a better writer. Many writers unfortunately don't know where they can find writing mentors.

For those people like me who does not have great imagination, I was still able to write by using my emotions and I just say everything that I want to say as long as I don't hurt other people.
I love writing but not long articles because I can relate to those leole who does not want to read long laragraphs just like this comment that I have made.

I know what you mean. It's not easy coming up with content. So I find it better to simply enjoy leisurely writing. I write stuff for myself in journals and diaries. But most of it is online now. Writing by hand can be really time consuming.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I cannot say that I'm a writer professionally but I am writing as my passion. I write to help me let go of my emotions that I can't handle within anymore. This is also the way that I consider to help me develop more of my language and grammar skills. I am not perfect when it comes to writing but I write with the information that I know I could share with other people.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's very humble. I'm also not much of a professional when it comes to writing. What's important is that we keep writing despite our limitations. We can only grow from here on. Let's keep an open mind and heart to learning every day.

It doesn't matter if you don't know this and that or how to do these and those. The question is do you have the guts to make your dreams come true? I became a writer in school where every time it is free time I would get my notebook and at the last page I would write stories of fantasies, drama and sports. I was so into writing and my idea of creativity was it at its peak. I remember how I use to always write about the things that were happening around me or what did I watch in the movies.
