Best Christmas gift for a writer?

This Christmas season, it's the season of giving and sharing. This Christmas I am planning to give a gift to my friend who is also a writer. I was wondering, what was the best gift for a writer this Christmas. What are your suggestions?

A beautiful journal or a mug would be great. I think that it's great to be receive something that I would actually use and is not just a decoration. Personally I really like beautiful mugs. As someone who loves coffee and tea, I am always reminded by the people or event where the mug I use came from. Oh, and don't forget to send a letter with your gift! It's always heartwarming to read kind words.

I like mugs and it has been a while since someone gave me a good mug. Mugs with a poetry script design would look nice.

Many people are giving mugs during Christmas season and it is one of the effective gifts ever. Easy to buy somewhere and the price are cheap.

You have also forgotten that they are easy to edit. You can write almost anything.

Yeah it's true, I hope to get one this Christmas too.

Wow that's great, I haven't received any of those till now.

That was a great idea. Thanks to all of you who share your ideas about my inquiry. So far, I see that the best gifts for writers are pen, mug, journal and books. these things are very useful for them. I was amused to know that most writers love to receive mugs because most of them love coffee like me.

I have too much mugs and I hate when someone gives it to me, so check first with your friend. The journal is a great idea tho. I love getting them. I have a journal with a quote
“You can always edit a bad page. You can’t edit a blank page.”
Jodi Picoult
It is my favorite.

Well they are people who don't get to receive it every Christmas and will love to have one so try and share the once you have.

I think a mug would be a great idea. I like drinking coffee while writing. For me a mug would give a beautiful idea and also she/he will remember you whenever he'll use it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yeah am also in support of your suggestion and its a nice idea.

angie828
Yes, I agree with you 100% on the journal. I would be very appreciative if someone gave me a journal for a gift.

The mug would also make a great gift as I love drinking coffee or tea when writing. And if you can find a matching journal and mug set, that would be even better.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Yeah that's true, let's say a blue or pink color of both a journal and a mug will go very well for me.

davedaot04
Yes as what they've said, a preferable gift would be a mug, its cute for me and you can write anything on it and it also looks cool.

Yeah it also another thing I love about mug and maybe I may get it or not but I hope to give someone special.

I suggest you give him or her books to read to enhance his or her writing skills.

Reading of some nice books is something that is pretty fine as long as I am concerned. The reason is because it will help me to feel relaxed while trying to read some useful information about a particular niche.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ElectorAlexande
Yeah that's a good idea, a great book that will add value to the reader and will increase knowledge in a great way.

Yeah it's also a good thing to do too, a nice book that will be very informative and interesting.

I think it is better if we can give some beautiful and expensive pen to our friend who is also a writer because it will always reminds him that you really appreciate what he is doing. Seeing the pen everyday would motivates him to do better in his writing most especially that someone is giving some importance and recognition from his job.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

mcnasci24
Oh, good idea! It's amazing how almost no writer actually possesses a gorgeous and elegant pen. We just scribble away with whatever pencil or pen is nearby. That certainly would be a very thoughtful gift for a writer.

Yeah I have come to realize that it is one of the best gift anyone can get for Christmas especially for a writer.

I have to agree that pens make a good gift for writers. Last year a friend gifted me with a silver Parker pen with my full name engraved on it and i loved it. Writers have an affinity with beautiful pens.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
I agree with you. A pen that is very expensive will do.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
A Parker or a Cross pen would be nice but a little pricey. Parkers cost about $20 each while Cross Pens cost more at $30-$50 each inclusive of engravings. But they are good gifts for writers.

I agree pens are great gifts for writers. I would hate to lose such expensive pens. Why do they cost that much? Do they use special ink?

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I once received a Parker pen from our lady boss. I was very happy because I know ts expensive.

A recorder.

If I will be asked for which gift I would like to receive this Christmas season is a recorder. It would be helpful for me as a writer to write an article or blog. It is because, at times, I interview some people for their opinions, insights and some questions and answer portion that would help me to have an idea or insight from people's beliefs, thoughts, emotions and awareness.
It would be easier for me to record their responses than writing down their answers. In that way, I will not forget or miss some information I gathered from them.

If you know his or her best author, two or three books from the author will be the best gift.

A good journal, notebook or diary. Something that can be by their side or close by at all times. Journals are very good for when a sudden flash of inspiration comes.

An inexpensive gift, if your friend likes coffee or tea, would be a mug with a really cool expression on it about writing or writers. But I also think a book of inspirational or motivational quotes would be a good idea because it might help them with ideas.

If it is not too much then I guess the tablet is one good gift. Last year I bought a tablet for my husband and he was so glad because he said that his eyes will be spared from the small screen of the smart phone that he was using for the internet when he is not at home. I got that Samsung tablet for only $200 and I'd say it was a steal that is worth the value vis-a-vis the benefit.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
I do think that a Tablet or the smaller Phablet is a good gift suggestion for a husband, wife, son or daughter. I just bought two Huawei Nova 2 lite smartphones for my sons yesterday as Christmas gifts got two for only $300. It's the 3 GB RAM by 32 GB Internal model with a 6 inch screen. There was a Christmas Sale at a Huawei Concept Store last Sunday and I was invited as one of the guest bloggers. They gave me an awesome discount.

I know what I would appreciate. Writers are often cash strapped so they cannot afford the pro version of the grammar checker they use. A subscription to somewhere like grammarly, prowritingaid or autocrit or any of these would be my choice.

One idea I used one Christmas was to take all my mum's poems and put them into a book. It is published on lulu.com, and of course has never sold at all except to family (do not tell mum this,) Mum was over the moon to be a published poet. If the writer has something they are happy to get self-published then enabling that would be a great present.

Or if you are cash strapped but great at SEO and marketing offer so many hours publicising their work for free.

Otherwise, a notebook - a beautiful one, with a matching pen is always welcome. I gave a fellow writer a notebook, pen and as I see suggested below, a mug for a special birthday.

I think a very expensive laptop will a great gift to the writer.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Kakashi2020
That's if money is no object. Or your going to give it to a very important person in your life. I mean expensive laptops are not normally given to friends or distant relatives but only to close relatives and family.

My personal favorite is pretty simple - notebooks/journals. I still hash out a lot of ideas with pen and paper, and I love cute notebooks that inspire me to get writing. They're not expensive either but can be a really sentimental gift.

A good book would be a great gift for a writer. Because writers enjoy reading and are always looking for something good to read. Although before giving a writer a book, it's best that you first research what he likes reading.

I’ve actually got a few books on my Christmas wishlist! I’m trying to set myself a goal of reading more in 2019 and I think some new reading material will help get that goal off on the right footing!

DVD's are so affordable nowadays that Movie compilations are great gifts for Christmas. Later tonight I'm going to a midnight bazaar and I'm planning to buy a DVD compilation if the LOTR, The Hobbit and Harry Potter as gifts to my close friends it only cost $7 for a trilogy and about $10 for a 4 disc up movie compilation. I'm buying one for myself Band of Brothers which I really like watching.

Couple Christmas Shirts are also good gifts for Christmas because recipients would surely wear it for Christmas. That reminds me Word Clerks should sell one or rather should give writers one HoHoHo.

The gift I really want to receive is a new everyday watch that I could wear. I'm getting tired wearing my old Timex Perpetual everyday. I like a simple stainless watch with a black strap and a white face for day to day use. Nothing expensive just one under $100 will do.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

For me, it doesn't actually matter what profession the person whom I'm giving the gift has. Well, if it's me, I would want to receive something that I can use everyday. Think of her and the things that she needs everyday, pick the thing hich you think is the most important one. That should not be very hard.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
I'm the same way in that I really like things that I'll actually use. I don't like gifts that just end up being ornaments - if it's something I'll use every day I much prefer that!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

theresajane
Yes, I also don't like gifts that ended up becoming one of the many displays in our house. I mean, I'm grateful that I am receiving gifts from thoughtful people, but I have to admit that I would want something useful rather than something that would just be disregarded.

I want to give the writer the gift of money. I believe that one of the reason of writers why they write is they need money to live for their family. To give them good amount of money will try to lighten their burden.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

menchuuy58
That is right. I will also give them much money for them to have a vacation.

By giving him or the money, he or she will now decide on what to buy or to do with it.

Cash gifts are always useful since there are so many things you can put the money towards. You may have a bill you need to pay or you may have the flexibility to splurge on something you’ve really wanted to purchase for yourself. Either way it’s very versatile and welcomed by everyone.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That's actually a good idea. I just have an idea of giving my friend a gift card for her to shop. Knowing her, she would hesitate receiving money from someone, but since it's a gift card, I'm sure she will enjoy shopping at a known mall in our city.

Does your friend like writing using pen and paper? How about a nice fountain pen and journal that's ink friendly. A book of poems to help inspire is nice too. Does your friend like drinking coffee while s/he is writing? A cute customized mug would be a great gift. But I'm sure whatever you give your friend s/he is going to like it. After all it's the thought that counts.

A pen gift is really a good gift because it is perfect for most writers since pen illustrate writing job which is one of the most great works out there. We should give some gift to our fellow writers which is perfect for what he/she is doing.

A pen or a great book about writing would do the trick for sure. These two items I would really enjoy to have because having a good pen will give me a great motive to write somethings down and what I can be able to explore about. A book about writing on the other hand will be able to give me ideas and thoughts on what I will be able to write about and to be able to expound my boundaries and knowledge of writing. I could possibly give you then best gift back which is a nice article for you to read and be inspired. Happy holidays!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, it is important to think of something for your friend that will be of great use for her. It's great if it comes from your heart, but what makes it greater is if your gift is something that can be of use to her. Let's be practical nowadays.

I think its good to gift him or her a decorative mug or a notebook and pen. He or she can use mugs like when needs to finished something from work, he or she can take a sip from coffee while writing some article or notes. He or she can then use note book and pen for his writings.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree. If you're going to give him/her a mug, better buy one made with high quality. There's nothing like a gift that stands the test of time. Some mugs are so good that they don't fade even after months of regular use.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

edencaga
Yes you are right. There are quality mugs you can buy on the market which can be long lasting design of mugs. What I think about a design idea is about quotes. A quote that inspires them more to do there work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Steve5
That's nice. A good message will certainly lift their moods each time they look at their mug. It might just inspire them to write something great. You could choose a funny quote for your gift.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes true, funny is also a good quote for writers. Humorous words help them relieve stress or somehow it reduces stress from work they do.

I’ve always got a mug of coffee or tea at my desk when I’m working, so a fun mug would definitely be something I’d enjoy. Perhaps even one with a motivational quote on it to keep me going on the tough days!

A writer will appreciate anything that will increased his or her writing skills to make more money. So you can get some good books on writing skills and maybe a good device too that will aid his or her work.

I think books are the best gifts for a writer. It is enough, you can add pen if you want.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Books are also good for writers. Sometimes if they are stress, they can read books just for them to relief some stress or if they are bored after finishing all their works then they can use books you bought for them.

Best gift for a writer is a better LAPTOP compared to what he currently has. It's his bread and butter and what he uses to earn so having a better one takes the icing on the cake. I'll say no more.

A concert or a movie ticket is a nice gift for someone who is usually indoors writing. It will be a welcome change of environment and will serve as short escape from work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That’s a really clever one! I’m usually at home all day since my job is based from home and I’m also a parent. Getting out and being able to enjoy a night out other than being surrounded by my own four walls sounds blissful!

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well, the gift that you are going to purchase would be determined by how much you are willing to spend on such a gift. If you can afford purchasing a new laptop or smartphone for the writer, I'm sure that he or she would like it very much.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
Well, I could suggest that you could give him a blank journal and a beautiful pen. It will help him to be inspired to write because he knew that you gave that journal. Also, he will feel that you are supporting him to on what he likes to do that's why you are giving him those gifts.

The best Christmas gift for a writer would be a trip out of town. It would freshen up a writer's mind and help him decongest his thoughts of life in general. It might also help relax and inspire a writer being in a new surrounding.
Another useful gift for a writer would be a carpal tunnel splint wrist support bracer, as most writers I know suffer from this condition.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Traveling really is something that inspires me to write more. The new experiences I gain when I’m on a trip are immeasurable so a vacation would be amazing as a gift. It’s so expensive though to get away for a trip when you factor in accommodation and transport.

Since it can be hard to tell exactly what someone would want, and you don't want to feel like your money was wasted if your gift isn't appreciated, the safest bet would be a gift card.

Assuming that you already have some money set aside to buy your friend a gift, why not just buy a gift card and send it to your friend? This way, you'll be sure that your friend will get themselves the perfect Christmas gift.

I dont think there is one particular gift that will fit all writers. Unless of course you are offering them a publication deal or money (and some people won't be impressed by money). The fact is, as much as we all have writing in common, we are still different people with different tastes, sometimes, rather peculiar tastes. If you have a friend who is a writer, you might want to find out what he's missing that could facilitate the ease with which he or she works. I bet they will be grateful for a gift like that. I think that is the only safe way to go.

I already received a lot of gifts from my friends. I appreciate every gift that they gave to me specially when they know already what I want without even asking me. What I really appreciate the most is Books and Pen and I enjoy using both of it. Most of the time, I always remember who gave me that gift when I am using them. Just give him/her what you think that will be appreciated.

Interesting question.I think that a writer would appreciate anything that involves rest and relaxation. Any time out will be much and highly appreciated. I would love a holiday, to go to the spa, watch some movies. All and any of that will be highly appreciated. A freelancers life is really busy. Most of us are freelancers for the freedoom but you end up working more hours than you worked when you were employed.

Ummm best Christmas gift to give to a writer might be a book. A lot of writer loves reading book write? so maybe giving a to a writer might be the best option for me. A pen and journal is also not a bad idea either as long as it is related to his profession any gift would be fine.

A box of good tasting tea or a bottle of a good coffee. - Most writers like to dri k hot tea and coffee to keep them relax and awake to do their job.

A mug - to use for their coffee and tea.

I agree with the comment about giving a Journal. Writers need a journal where they can write their ideas, to do list and schedule whenever they are not infront of their computer.

I think that an expensive and elegant jacket would also be a nice gift for writers since I know sometimes we go outside to unwind or get some important ideas in our article writing and it would be a good idea to have because it can protect us from cold and heat outside while researching on some great ideas that we want to have. I am sure that writers would be happy to have it since they will have something to be used while having some activity outdoors.

It depends on your budget and what you think he/she will really like. Commonly, writers love fountain pen, books and gadgets which they can make use of with their daily task. If I were to give one, I would go for a fountain pen if I have a budget. If not, I'll make my own poem and send to to him/her as a gift which I hopefully he/she would appreciate.

A bag of excellent Gourmet Coffee. I'm a coffee drinker and I guess most writers are also. Writer's need that extra caffeine boost at night and a good cup of Freshly Brewed Coffee is the best way to get it.

I like the idea of coffee, writers really need this. However I would appreciate the gift of money more. If you give a writer money he maybe able to take a break from his writing and have a good holiday. Personally if you give me money I would take some time off to enjoy myself. Off course it depends on how much money it actually is and if it's money that can cater for my needs even for a day.

I am thinking of giving some bag since it would be a good gift so that writers can put all their important things whenever they would go for an important outdoor activities. It can help writers to bring their important materials to have a good ideas in their article writings.
