Why do you write? What's your motivation?

For many of us, writing is a good way to earn money. For some people, it's a good way to express their creative thoughts. Their motivations for writing may vary from person to person.

For me, I write because there are so many things that I want to buy (ex. computer upgrades, books, virtual video game hats, etc.) but we simply don't have the financial capability to do so. Whenever I write, the thought of gaining the things that I want motivates me.

How about you? Why do you write? What motivates you to write?

I am not a professional writer. I am not into the system of forcing myself to write because I have commitment to meet. I have not proven myself in that aspect. However, I am motivated to write because I want to express my thoughts on what I believe. On Things that affects me. I find it a good habit to somehow release stress or anything that's bothering on my mind. It feels like a self confession written on a piece of paper. This somehow improve me as a person.

Writing is a skill. With more practice you'll be better. And you're right, it does help reduce stress. And sometimes just writing down your thoughts helps you to release so much negativity.

Aside from its earning potential, I mainly write to improve my writing skills. There's no better way of enhancing it than doing it practically almost every day. You get to learn from your mistakes and grow. You get to meet like-minded people too which is a plus.

I agree. This is like mastering the skills needed everyday. Besides I am learning alot in these forums about so many things that may be good references for future projects.

Same here. I've learned a lot from clerk sites, and I believe that it helped me get better with what I do. I also get to meet individuals who share the same interests as mine, who knows someday we might be business partners.

Personally, I write to express myself, and to influence. For this reason I could barely write if I'm not writing from my heart, or expressing expressly thoughts that are laid down in my heart.

Therefore, I can say that these two —to express myself and to influence —are my biggest motivation for writing. I write most when I'm doing either or both of them

This is so me when it comes to writing I like to express myself to be heard if I can influence a notion so be it but the most important thing is always that I have been able to do the most I can concerning a topic.

I am only a beginner when it comes to writting I don't took it as my main way of earning money. It was just my thoughts from my daily experience and my only motivation is that there is always a tomorrow that I could learn on what will be possible to happen and then I will add it.

I write first to express my views, opinions, ideas and also give my suggestions. I like to contribute to a topic and maybe debate about a certain topic but most importantly knowing that I will earn cents from it gives me more room to write.

I write because I am inspired to inspire others. I love reading books especially Bible and other inspirational literature. I felt so blessed to read those books. Because of that I was inspired to write my own inspirational works to spread positivity and encouragement. I want to be an instrument to bring people back to God.

That's wonderful. It's really important to have people who are spreading the good news of the gospel. I'm always attracted to inspirational works. This is the kind of book I look forward to reading.

It's a good deed to be an inspiration to others. Giving guidance especially those people who have lost their way is remarkable. It's difficult to convince people to have a positive outlook in life especially when they have wrong upbringing or morally lost. They don't listen. Patience and determination is always tested when interacting this type of personality. It's good to influence others especially with the word of God.

So many people have asked me this question. The world has changed and people don't really have the same motivations anymore. I feel that when people ask you this question they expect you to have some great motivation like writing because its your purpose. I think for most people the greatest motivation is money the next is for personal growth. Personally I like writing but the money does not hurt either.

That's very true. It's like we expect everyone to say something grand and awe inspiring. But really, writing has kind of always been about making money. The only exception is the old times when it was used more for preserving knowledge and wisdom.

But in the modern era, it's kind of like a job. You write good stuff and earn a living. It's that simple.

I guess people are becoming more educated than old days. Mostly, are not aware on different possible opportunity. Wants and needs we're lesser compared these days. Our awareness is a drive to seek better option in our means of living. Besides, the tough and rough stages of life today makes a person to look for a means to survive. Writing is one of the option.

Honestly it’s just always been my way of expressing myself. I loved writing ever since I was a young child. Some kids love sports, some love arts and crafts - I loved writing.

Now, it’s also the way I earn money, so it’s important in that sense too!

Exactly! I started out the same manner in which you did. I was never after making money through my writing. In fact, I never thought it was possible to make money online being a writer.

But it's really a good thing to know that as much as I I'm writing for fun, I can still as well make money from it.

Agreed! I'd still be writing whether or not it was my paid job - it's just been such a part of my life for so long that I don't know what I'd do without it. I'm just super grateful that there are ways for people who love writing to earn an income from their craft.

I have been writing since my school days and i think that it has almost become a habit for me. I would say that i write to express my views and opinions. Of course earning money is also a motivating factor for any writer. But i will continue to write for my pleasure even if i am not able to earn anything from it.

It is only through writing that we get to share our views with others. This will always make them to see the need to understand the reason we have some thoughts such as that as we won't have done such if we were unable to write. So, writing makes us to share our ideas with others.

Like you, I started writing in high school but I didn't write articles then, instead I wrote poetry. I stopped writing poetry in college and forgot about writing until I was in my late 20's when a series of events led me to write again. I studied business writing and eventually became a copywriter and later on started writing articles.

Main reason why I write is to share. As what I have mentioned.before in one of my comments, I am not a talker. I have a lot of things going in my mind but I just don't enjoy talking. I find writing as an outlet of letting these ideas out and sharing them to the readers of my work.

Second is to earn extra money. It is not everyday that you enjoy writing but I still do it. This time it is not just to share what is in mind but to meet my clients deadline so I can get paid. It is a rewarding feeling for me to finish an article and at the same time earn from it.

I write because it's a good way to keep my mind busy. Doing nothing makes me think a lot. It makes me think of everything that's stressing me out. It's making me think of my problems. It just makes me depressed. Writing helps keep all those thoughts away and by the time I finish I'm too tired to even think of anything. It just helps me a lot to get through my day. Money is a bonus of course Why do you write? What

I often find that when I’m stressed or anxious too that writing is a helpful blessing. Like you said it just gets your mind to focus on something else. Sometimes if I can’t slow my thoughts, writing at least helps as a distraction.

Writing is the best way to release all the stress and give yourself a bit of peace of mind. When I don't have any writing assignments and I'm feeling overwhelmed with things going in my life, I just write everything I'm thinking. It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense. I just keep writing until all my thoughts are on the paper. Or on the screen in front of me. That also helps me cope with negativity.

Writing itself is a motivator. When I write and people appreciate it is when am motivated to write more.

Money can motivate also. Goals too can motivate.

If you are not writing for fun or as a hobby, then money will definitely be your best motivation to keep writing. Seriously, who doesn't want to be making money online while just passing along his or her ideas and thoughts to the general public?

It brings some sort of fame as well.

We all like to be famous every now and then.

Personally, before I ever discovered that you can easily write and make money online from your works, my initial purpose of writing was to be heard.

But when I learnt that it's possible to earn money online with your writing, I now combine the two together.

I didn't imagine myself to be a writer because I am not one who has the penchant for writing especially of literary creations or fiction stories. When I was assigned in the office to handle our department's communication section, my boss advised me to take a course for English communications to improve my written English. Instead of the course, I joined writing sites and that gave me the inspiration to pursue a writing career as a freelancer.

Why do you right? What's your motivation: I am not one of a kind of professional writer but I know and has an idea how to write and i do love doing it. I usually write in my vacant times if i know to my self that i need to write what is on my mind, most of the kind of writing i do is just a stories, my friend love to read my works and I am so fluttered with that. I just want to inspire and share my ideas and knowledge thru writing.

That's really nice. I also find it rewarding. You get to interact with like-minded people. I've found forum users to be kind and respectful. It's like a more pleasant place in the internet. Not to mention making friends along the way.

I guess we're also friends since we see each other a lot online.

I mainly write to express myself and engage in exchange of ideas and experiences. There is valuable knowledge when you learn fro those who experience it first hand. This kind of knowledge in forums is something you don't learn in schools.

I agree. I also write to share with others what I know. It's as much of a learning experience for them as it is for me. I feel like we have a give and take relationship. We learn stuff that's not common knowledge to all.

My dream has always been to leave the world a better place than I found it. While there is no guarantee that I'll get what I seek, I have to do the best I can.

Since they say the pen is mightier than the sword, I write because I'm hoping that what I write will in the near future or at some indefinite time in distant future convince someone to change, be a more decent human being. That is what motivates me to write.

I do express my self thru words but sometimes when I am inspired with something or someone, I create some stories and compose some lyrics. It's how I express my thoughts and feelings, thru any kind of art and I know writing is an art. Composing a tune, composing a story and creating an illustration are my ways to deeply showing more my feeling.

I write because it is my passion. I enjoy writing a lot and it really makes me happy. I am able to express myself and be who I am when I am writing. Most people don't really understand that writing is such a great gift to have and compose because it shows meaning and dedication. I really enjoy writing and it really makes me happy. I can say this for some writers as well who are fond of doing this kind of activity.

I simply write because I like righting. I won't say writing is my passion, just being to express and write my opinion on a certain topic can be quite enjoyable for me I do it as a hobby and I also want to improve my skills, learned new words and gain more knowledge. I am not really expressive vocally so I prefer writing than speaking.
