Content Generation Idea: Writing About Your Charitable Activities

Content Generation Idea: Writing About Your Charitable Activities
Does your website, blog or business have a charitable side to it? Does your website, blog or business get involved with any kind of charitable event either locally, nationally or even internationally? Do you support campaigns like Save The Children or support local municipal buildings and organisations like hospitals and even animal shelters? If so then that is just pure gold content waiting to be written about and posted right there! And that sets the tone for this content generation idea: Writing About Your Charitable Activities.

So if you are a website, blog or business that does care for those local charities or even national or international charities and non-profit organisations. Then you can write about that and show off your charitable actions to the world!  And not only will this score you some brownie points with your readers but can help your local rankings too if you're writing about local charities.

Finding Local Charities to Support Just for Content
Content Generation Idea: Writing About Your Charitable Activities
Okay so this is possible to do, all you really have to do is find some local charities to you and then support them somehow. That could be by sending them your old technical gear like outdated, replaced and overhauled computers, printers and stationary they can sell. To just sending them a cheque in the post or something! And then by say, putting their logo on your site like on page that shows off the local charities you support and why. And of course, you could "brag" about this in the content you can write on the matter about how you actually help/support that charity or others too.

Things You Could Write About

  • What the charity is, their name etc and what they stand for; their purpose/mission etc.
  • Why it is you support them and the way you do support them (donations/contributions etc).
  • What things you take part in with that charity such as local events held etc.
  • Rinse and repeat for other local charities too.

Benefits to Supporting / Writing About Local Charities

  • Can help you rank better in local rankings in the Search Engines.
  • Can see you in a very good light when you can show you support all these charities.
  • Can result in more trust, credibility and authority in your site, blog or business.
  • Can help you come up with almost infinite amounts of content to write about.
Okay and that's this content generation idea! Writing About Your Charitable Activities for Content.

Is this something you, your site, blog or business does for these reasons?

What other benefits are there to supporting local charities other than the content you can write?

What other ways are there you can use local charities for content generation ideas?

Thanks!

Mike.

Wow, I have read you discussion word for word and am just astonished at the wealth of knowledge stored therein. Well, as for me am new in the internet writing but I believe when I grow up enough to start a blog, or even a website for a business, then this is one of the things I will put into consideration. Not necessarily for my own gain, but to help get the word out there, to find sponsors and volunteers for the charitable enterprise in question.

Supporting local charities, will make the people involved whether it be orphans, widows or even refugees feel recognized as part of society which helps boost their self esteem, a very important aspect of survival. Bringing out the best of the people in question, such as a boy with a talent in football, or a girl whose voice is eligible for MAMA Awards, in your content can help them rise to the top of their careers with minimum effort, a thing they shall forever be grateful for.

I think that true charity or giving needs not to be spoken or written. I believe that true giving is done without the knowledge of others. God knows a generous heart.

I believe that this would be useful for websites who have a social responsibility. I believe businesses should always try to give back to the society. My organization website has also done the same but it is not for promotion purposes.

I think this is a great idea. I'm not sure, but I think you could even use this as a tax write off if you do it correctly. I know that businesses usually do engage with charitable activities partly also to help with cutting down their tax fees, so I think if it is applicable to bigger companies then it should also be helpful to smaller ones. Not only that but of course obviously it helps a lot in that people will get inspired and also find out some obscure ones that may not get as much attention from the public. I know a Youtube channel that always ends with a charity shout out, and I've always thought that was pretty smart since it was a win-win for everyone.

While this is an excellent idea, I would like to add that you need to be careful how you format the message when you're writing about your charitable works. It may be true that you only did them to have something to write about, but if you come off that way in your article you will alienate readers in a heartbeat. Confidence is just a snarky smile away from arrogance, and arrogance is usually a poor sales tactic.

When writing about your charitable works be certain to find the narrative thread that links your action to your reader's sentiment. It helps to choose a charitable activity that is somehow relevant to any search terms you're working, or products you're selling. You want to relate those terms or products to the warmth you're trying to provoke from the reader. They want to read that good things have happened, and you want to tie in your pitch to those good things. Ideally, this should be done in a congratulatory way so that your works, in reality, become their works in theory! The only thing more lucrative than selling a warm-fuzzy thought is having the reader feel like it was their idea or that they share in it in some way.

It's a great thing to write an article about a charity especially if it is a local charity that really does need donations. An article can help create some exposure for the article and will be exactly what they need especially if they are doing very badly in terms of funds. But like said above, just make sure that you try to focus on the charity themselves and not too much about how you may have helped them or about your donations. It's not nice to read an article where the author is boasting about an act.

".... It's not nice to read an article where the author is boasting about an act... "

This is exactly what I mean should be avoided when one decides to take this route in generating content ideas for their site or blog. It's a complete turn off when you come upon articles where one uses the medium to tell the world how he or she spent on charity work.

I am going to create a blog covering my various charitable activities. I have a Trust that reaches out to the needy. In the last few years I have occasion to ease the tension of many who have had financial difficulties. I help those who come under the objectives of my Trust. There are so many stories I can write on.

I volunteer for an NGO and I have posted about several events that I participated in on my blog. The owner of this NGO has praised me for this initiative and has proposed to publish my articles in the organization's newsletter. He has also told me that he is considering to create a blog for the organization and has requested my help for this. If everything goes well then he will be hiring me as a writer. I am excited and waiting for this to happen.

I will be just blunt in my opinion about writing on charity works especially the ones done by the writer. Don't go and be advertising your charity work with your content because it only presents you as a glory seeker which would only ruin your reputation and make the charity work look like a way to exploit in one way or another.

I agree @martinsx1 this idea does not make much sense to me. Why would you join a charity so that you can write about it on your website? The bible says to whom much is given much is also required. We all have a responsibility to help those in need. However this help must come from your heart otherwise it is no good at all. Joining a charity to write about it, is taking adavantage of someone in a vulnerable situation. I think that you can offer this writing service to a website/blog that has joined a charity to genuinely help them.

That's a good idea. Writing about your favorite charitable institution or creating your own charity event can show your good side also it helps further the mission of the charitable institution you're promoting.

Another way to do this is to ensure that any company you have has a social corporate responsibility wing. This is where your company can do things for the community around like, pay school fees for a few children who come from poor families, buy them school uniforms e.t.c. Provide food or pay bills for poor families around. There is so much that can be done. You can have a special part of your website that journals this journey.
