Does anyone know a website where you can work as online translator?

Needing some help over here. As a bilingual freelancer, I'm always searching for sites that can offer a good bilingual job opportunity. Also, if that job is related to health/medical area, that's my thing for sure. So I need to ask you guys, does anyone can suggest a website/link/place, where there's an online chance to work as a bilingual translator?

There are quite a few and I know that a few of the users on this site use some translating sites to make money online. Unfortunately, I can't remember who they are or where they were discussing the job. I'm sure they will respond to this post soon so you shouldn't have to wait long for some answers. One key thing about being a translator is that you need to improve on some languages that are not quite popular for that is the better way to earn as you work since the competition for work won't be that tough in that area. I don't know if you've heard about the hour translator site that pays well when you do some work on the site. That is a good way to keep earning more on the site.

How many languages does one need to be fluent in to cash in some good money from translating sites. I mean I know that you can work translating only two languages but I do not think you will make some good enough cash.

Well you can try FreeeUp, Freelancer, Fiverr they have lots of translation jobs there the last time I logged in. Also there's Upwork there's always work for translators there.

I agree. Those websites that you mentioned are all legit and good sites to work on. But I highly suggest FreeUp because I have seen a lot of interview from those who already tried FreeUp and they say for a Freelancer it is a recommended site to try on if you are seeking a good environment for freelancers. Also, there are a lot of successful freelancers in FreeUp who are earning good amount of money.

I also hear good things about FreeUp. Is the platform new? Most websites that are about freelancing always have it as a topic.

May I know what skills are in demand in FreeUp? I haven't tried doing freelance works on these sites because I haven't been able to register at upwork because there are too many people from my field that's already working there.

Hi. I'm afraid I couldn't you the right information to you, but as far as I know FreeeUp it has a lot of available career and job opportunities for freelancers. Most of freelancers in FreeeUp are professional like programmers, etc. But you can always check their website to know if your field in still in demand but I am sure it is.

Thanks! I'll try and sign up for FreeeUp then. I saw that the platform is a newcomer and I hope it is not yet crowded. I experienced that when a platform has many freelancers, they are contesting to get a client. They are forced to bring the price of the service down and it is no longer worth it to do as a job.

Yes, Freeeup is a great platform because they're new and they don't have a lot of freelancers yet. However, the reason why they don't have that much freelancers is because they only pick the best 1% which makes it very hard to enter the platform. I actually tried applying there and I failed because I lack some experiences and they told me they only pick a small number of employees meaning they'll only get the best out of the rest.

Hi there you're missing an "e" it's FreeeUp. It's a good platform since it's a newcomer, one of the owners visited the Philippines for a meet and greet with online workers and freelancers event last week.

Fiverr is a good shout but the problem is that there are so many users on that site, with high ratings that it is sometimes hard to apply for a job that has been posted on there. Most of the time, the user will select someone with a lot of existing reviews and ratings which means it might be hard for a newcomer to actually start to make some money on there.

Freelancer and Fiverr are good as long as you are bilingual (or multilingual) in English and other popular languages since there's a lot of competition and most of the work involves English and the more common languages from Europe.

I don't know any sites for online translators. However, I've seen some of my friends working in a similar occupation. Though, theirs is offline. I wonder if they've considered working online.

I think that working offline as a translator would probably be a lot better than doing the same job online. It's the same for a lot of jobs really isn't, the offline version of the job will most likely always be a lot more secure, better paying and have much more benefits. Working as a translator online will just not be as high paying and you will most likely go through spells where you can't find any work/get any jobs

I think any online job works like that. It's not only limited to translation jobs. I think companies or employers give lower pay for online work because they already gave you flexible working hours and the convenience of working at home. You don't also have to report to them directly face to face.

Well I do know three websites in which you could transcribe audio into words. It pays via PayPal, I tried it once and it's really not for me. If you want to give it a try then you can go to any of these sites..TranscribeMe, GoTranscript and Humanistic.

Okay I just remembered several more translation sites which I haven't registered into yet. There's Translate.com, UnBabel, OneHourTranslation, Rev, Tetras and TranslatorsTown. You can give those sites a shot.

Actually, I don't have any idea about that. Like you, I'm also looking for some sites to earn additional income. Online translator job is the things sometimes I want to be. I really interested to that kind of career, the only problem is, lack of time to explore it.

I'm a translator myself and I can tell you that how much you can earn will also largely depend on which languages you know. One thing to note is, doing online translation through agencies or things similar to that will usually pay less than getting hired by an offline company.

With that being said, I would personally recommend the following websites:
- translatorsbase,
- joining any big translators community (forum) and seeing where others get recent jobs from,
- Upwork,

Tronia, thanks for your help. As you said, it must be better to work for a company, however I have no idea which companies can offer a job related to translation. Can you suggest a forum/community where I can try to check about it? I will definitively check all the sites that have been suggested for this community, but obviously the more tips I can get, the better.

I have never done some translator job before but I think it is an interesting job to do, I am curious if the pay rate is also fine. Maybe I should try to look on that in the web. I am new to that particular job and this si my first time to hear such task. Thanks for sharing.

Pay rates are fine but also dependent on your skill set and on the languages you are aware of and your mastery of that language. You get more jobs if you know a more popular language other than English, and if you have a good grasp of the grammatical rules as well and not just a word for word translation.

I would only recommend ones that I have used and got paid for the job done and the one and only site I would recommend for you to look up is Fiverr. There are tons of translator jobs available for freelancers on the site.

Is it even feasible to try and find work through Fiverr these days? I myself haven't used it yet because I've heard that finding work there has been incredibly difficult as a result of increased popularity. There are people from all over the world providing lots of work for ludicrously cheap prices, and it's making it unreasonable for certain people to even try to compete.

Do you still use Fiverr? Have you had a reasonable amount of success with it?

This could be some valuable information for myself as well. I'm trilingual so being able to find work translating material would be a great way for me to make a bit of extra money on the side. I haven't had the time to invest into actually finding such work, but I know that there are certain options available. I know that people offer translation work through Fiverr, but for reasons I won't get into right now, I don't really like that site. Making a profile on freelancing sites such as Upwork could be a good way of finding work as well. I'm not sure if there are sites dedicated solely to hiring translators, but they more than likely exist.

I think it depends on the languages involved. Is it French? Spanish? German? I recommend that you try the work market website as they provide translation jobs for diffrent languages. Some of the transcription companies like Scribe also have files to be transcribed in different languages like Spanish. Some of these sites also have many files with medical transcription. You could also try job boards like Pro blogger and Craig list. Good luck!

I also would like to work for a company that offers online job for a translator, a very good friend of mine just got a chance like it, and she's making good money with it. Have you considered applying online to sites like Upwork and Elance? You can create a profile as a freelancer and offer your services to people, or take offers from people looking for translators. It’s one of the best ways to find work as a translator, but it might take some time to carve out a place for yourself, as these sites tend to be crowded.

Try offering your services to some hotels, as they might be in need of online customer service representatives who speak multiple languages.

Well thanks for the idea, I did create profiles in some freelance pages, still not having a good chance, but keeping up the plan. Didn't consider the hotel customer service until now, which sounds like a good chance, so I may take your word and ask around online. Any other information about it, will be really appreciated.

The most popular sites for having a job for translator are Fiverr and Upwork. We have tons of companies here but they work in BPO industry. It's not open for home-based work they're going to hire you as an employee. I've heard that their salary is really good if you work as a translator. Good luck with your job hunting.

Aecel, this is really interesting. You say there are tons of companies that work in BPO industry. Do you know any company which it's BPO is related to health/medicine/research area? That could be really useful to me. Mostly of them could not be open to home-based work, but more often than not, companies are open to a deal to make it work, in case they're really interested in your job. Thanks for your attention and comment amelia88. Besides English, I speak Spanish, which is my mother tongue, and I've been learning Brazilian Portuguese. Some may think that is easier because I already know Spanish, but let me tell you Portuguese is very challenging. While English has no written accents, and Spanish has only one (like for example... Mamá), Portuguese has 4 accents! I've been interested on learning Dutch or German, but haven't had the opportunity so far.

Well actually I found some services in Fiverr about online job translator as well as in Upwork. I forgot the other site where you can also work as translator as it was mentioned by my friend. I have to go back and read our previous conversation but I will just ask her about that instead.

I think Freelancer as well as Fiverr might be your best choice.I'm not familiar with a lot of sites that pay users directly by giving them tasks via mail or on site.You can try and find jobs that users put up on these 2 services and maybe you will earn quite a bit.Translators are needed and if your a good one you'll get paid nicely.

Well thanks a lot for the feedback. Don't worry, I'm not an expert on freelancing either, and in fact when I began I didn't give so much credit about it, but it has turned out way much better than I thought. I just want to expand my job field, and I think translating is a very good opportunity for me, I've been helping out people a lot before, people that had issues with language barrier and has gone really well. So, any help about online translation will be really useful for me.

I suggest go to gotranscript. I think they have a task for online translator. They even got task for online transcribers. Try it, I read a lot of good reviews for that site.

Transcription websites also seek freelance translators. But with these websites, you usually have to pass an exam first.
There's a website called MeritCrowd, you can write and translate for them.
There's also ProZ.com, which is a place for language professionals and freelancers. This is from their website:

You are very welcome dear! There are a lot of freelancers that don't have any academic knowledge about translation, but they still find some opportunities to translate. There are a lot of people that are also seeking translators for a decent pay since it's not your field then start with something little, just try and maybe this will work out for you. Another thing I'd suggest is teaching English online. There are companies that don't require any certificates and not even for you to be native. If you see yourself capable of teaching English, I think you should give it a try!

Well, I tried to teach English to little kids, it felt amazing and I was learning a lot about them everyday, but unfortunately, where I live, most of the people don't pay decent money for education, and that's what's make our education so lame. So, I was investing a lot of time, with a terrible earning, and I had to stop it. Haven't tried online, so that's a good option too.

Working as freelancer is not as easy as people think, it requires a lot of your time, and effort too, but eventually it will pay off. I had to change my job field completely, and I was really confused and lost when I began working online, but eventually I learned how to deal with it. You will learn a lot from forums and blogs, that's why I tend to ask a lot in these platforms haha.

There are opportunities for multilingual freelancers in sites like Humanatic, Microworkers, and MTurk. Spanish and Chinese speakers have access to better paying call review tasks in Humanatic. If you are well-versed in these two languages, you will find it easier to be accepted at Humanatic. In MicroWorkers, you can find clients that require translation jobs in languages like Chinese and Vietnamese. I think it is the easiest site to join among the three. MTurk favors US-based workers. They may accept international workers but they can only pay you Amazon gift cards, not USD.

Oh thanks a lot for you help. I have tried Humanatic before, as you say it is a good site for multilingual freelancers. However, lately it has been experiencing some common and annoying troubles, some say that it is because of hackers. I will try with the other platforms you talk about, to give them a chance. Hi jayjaydimson, honestly, I've never tried those, so I would take them in consideration. Maybe people think that I don't check any of their suggestions, but I really do. So far, most of them offer more transcript than translation, but in the end is a good point to start at. Also, some of them are not open to my country, so unfortunately I can't use them.

I'm really thinking about taking Chinese classes. I think that this may widen my scope in terms of the kind of jobs I can find online. It is no secret that the Chinese are taking over the world in terms of commerce. You can't avoid it because they are a population of over 1 billion. I want to work from home and online so I see this as a way of increasing my income. I also think that they are websites that would pay you more then the micro work websites. Sites like Mturk pay you so little yet the work involved is so much. I agree that transcription websites are not a bad idea. This maybe better then working on sites like micro workers.

Well jaymish3, I can tell you that when you know more than just one language, your possibilities increase hugely. Obviously, the bigger the population that speak it, the bigger the chance to get an opportunity. However, freelancing requires a lot of time to invest, hours of dedication and patience, to finally find an option that can brings you fair payments, and decent job.

Working as a freelance translator can earn you a decent income but most of the jobs you'll find on many freelancing sites don't pay much and the likelihood of getting more work from the same client is quite remote too.

You should consider trying a translation agency. Many of them often seek translators. It will be like applying for any other job but should you get accepted then you are likely get more translation work here than you would find on any one freelancing site since these agencies have lots of clients.

You can search at indeed.com for translator jobs. If you are good at Chinese, you can also try to apply as an online English teacher to Chinese students. 51Talk pays equally with your effort.

You're welcome. Don't worry about it. I have a lot of friends who are now working under 51talk and are teaching English to Chinese people, especially kids. My firends don't even know Chinese, they are just trained properly and you'll get the hang of it.

Well, I have done a few translation jobs offline but have never tried online yet. I guess that there are lots of sites like translate.com which are basically full-fledged translation sites and there a lot of names of such sites mentioned in the replies here. There are translation jobs also available on most of the forums and micro jib sites. you can also try to sale your translating talent on sites like Fiverr. I guess if you have enough experience in translation, then you can very quickly get good work at these sites.

Thanks jpk0007, just like you I've done some offline translations, also I've been teaching English too. However, working online has become less exhausting than a regular offline chance, and also more rewarding. That's why I've been trying to find a good chance for it online. I will check with translate.com and maybe give it a try.
