Well, of course, you have to make yourself stand out among the other applicants. Start from listing all of your achievements, work experiences and the activities that you're on. However, for some who are fresh graduates and are still starting to grasp the real-life scenario of job-huntings, the best advice that I can give to you is to focus on your education, highlight your awards and achievements in school or in your community and don't forget the skills that you think are very useful.

I agree with you and just don't make it too much that it sounds like you are bragging.

True. Sometimes what happens are some people ended up like they are bragging on their resumes. I have a friend who submitted her resume in my office. I was one of those people who were reading it and the others commented that she sounds like she is bragging about her achievements. It's really hard to write a resume about yourself and your good achievements without sounding bragging to others.

I have had work where one of my jobs was to filter out resumes. Intelligent people would send the company garbage about how they loved their mum, dad, dogs and wanted to be an astranout. These C.V's went in the bin. Then there were those more than 2 pages long. They too were bin fodder. What the employer wants to know is whether you have a credible work history, the right qualifications for the job and can explain any long gaps in work. Read whatever is asked for by the company and answer it point by point. Make the C.V very easy to read and with no spelling mistakes or grammatical errors and make sure you render qualifications correctly. Never lie. I can tell you, we could tell....

Man, that would have been an interesting job - it sounds like you got a whole range of really quirky applications. It's funny, I guess, about what information people think is pertinent to a job application that ends up being completely irrelevant and even makes their resumes end up straight in the trash can.

I agree with you, and it kind of weird i think that you know information about certain people that you don't know personally.

I also hear from the experts that it is always important to check if there are any special qualifications that the employer looks out for before you go ahead and fill in everything about yourself. It is important to keep things short but detailed if you know what I mean.

Yes, if there are any particular criteria that the job deems as essential skills to have, it's really important to highlight those. Including the relevant work experience you have in the context of the job you're applying for makes it easy for the employer to see how you'd fit into their business.

When talking about the experience it is important to not only state but show the real area that you were attached and the company including the position and the length of work.

Agree because some company filter their resume and yours will probably be in the bin if you don't have those specific qualifications they need.

Yes - often if you're getting hundreds of applicants for a job that's just part of the process. They're looking for critical skills in a resume, and if it's not immediately clear from your resume that you have those skills then you won't make the cut from the start.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

When you just copy paste the general resumes from other people you can easily get rejected as there is nothing unique. However, when you have your own personal touch to the skills then there is probably a better chance.

Hahaha yeah yeah my friend. I have a friend attached to a HR department of a big company here and he tells me stories of how people's CVS are disposed just for not knowing what they are looking for.

Yes. Before sending any resumes it should be best to know what is the company about and if they are looking for something specific. Some companies only entertained those applicants who can provide them with what they need even if your resume looks really good.

Writing a good resume is an art. You should try to stand out from other resumes, so the hiring manager notice you. Add your talents and skills! Also in last couple of years, it is very important for a worker to be adaptable and that he can work in group so add that on your resume too.

The truth about yourself is what would most likely make you stand out from every other person who is seeking to be employed in the company where you are seeking employment.

Everyone have his own life experience, skills and knowledge. Don't go trying to copy others. Be yourself in your resume.

I agree with Happy. Its true once they start with the interview, all they want to know and hear from the applicant are straight to the point answers. Easy to understand and how you can depend your answer from their questions. Though sometimes they don't start their topic or questions from the resume, sometimes its out of the world questions that they will throw to you and all they want is how fast you think and answer it straight forward.

If you've managed to get to the point of an interview it's usually a sign that your resume was good and caused your potential employer to be interested enough to meet with you face to face.

Interviews...that's a whole different story on how to approach those!

Creating a resume is first need to know where you want to apply a company then know to yourself what your good at. For example if your graphic designer in you past experience then tell your good at, creative, work done in minimal time. Something like this and last for most is be honest on the details in your resume. "This is the real crucial here, if your not honest in it then you cant be honest at work too. (in mind of your interviewer or h.r)"

I remember reading this article a couple of years ago about a guy who hid his resume in a box of donuts that he delivered to a company he was applying at!

https://www.thrillist.com/news/nation/this-guy-hides-his-resume-in-boxes-of-donuts-to-score-job-interviews

Genius...I'd definitely be more interested in a resume if someone thought outside the box like that!

I had change the format of my resume to the modern format although I have no use for that right now because I will be retiring soon. As part of the recruitment team for the vacancy in our department some years ago, my focus on the resume is the work experience of the applicant particularly the company that he used to work for. I usually give preference to applicants with work experience in big companies because it is harder to be hired than applying in small companies.

You need to know first if you are qualified to the job, then if you think you are and you need to impress them with your skills, but not in a bragging way. Just list down your achievements.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
There can be a fine line between listing achievements and it coming across like bragging. Certainly if you sound like you're bragging or showing off, many employers may see that as a negative quality they don't want in a potential employee. It can be tough!

I think to write a convincing resume is that we just need to be true to our selves, we must write our resume with honesty and sincerity because it is one of the things that impress a certain company when hiring a certain applicants. It is really a points to have some in demand skills since it will gives more advantages from other applicants.

As much as possible, Keep your resume to one page unless you have extensive related work experiences. Having two pages of your resume is good as long as the information is necessary for the position that you are applying for. You also need to make sure that there are no grammatical errors. You can use a proofreading tool like Grammarly or have someone check your resume to make sure that you are submitting an error-free resume.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes that is really true so that employers may look at our resume to be attractive and interesting to read because some employers are being bored whenever our resume is too long especially if it doesn't have much the criteria that they are looking for. Checking all the necessary details in our resume is a must so that we can easily answer to some questions that the employer wishes to ask from us.

Keep it short, keep it tight.

Focus on your academic qualifications + any experience and achievements which will convince the employer that you are the candidate they should hire. When applying for jobs keep in mind the fact that a C.V is provided to back anything contained in your cover letter. Anything else, leave it out.

Don't beat about the bush with writing your resume. Try to be as simple as possible with what you put down and avoid jumbling up lies in your resume only to make it look good. When they ask you some serious questions about what you lied about, it's definitely going to hard to give them credible answers.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

That is true. The simple the better. No need to put extravagant details in your resume. The job interviewer will not interest to what your resume looks like but what it is written there.

That is the reason why companies are hiring a good hiring team in order to filter those best and true candidates. These hiring teams are well trained and some of them has a background and even graduate with Psychology so they will see if the candidates are lying.

I suppose people make up things so it can can sound like they are more qualified for the job. However it is these lies which will see to it that you don't get the job should they be discovered. So why risk it? If you've got the qualifications and relative experience, use those as your weapon.

Include everything that would impress them. If you had high grades during your college days, include them. Include your achievements such as when you've joined a competition, whether you won or not. Include all the seminars and trainings you've attended. Include every skill you have, especially the relevant ones. If you know someone who has a high position, be it in the company or not, include him/her in the character references.

When writing your resume, you to keep it simple and keep straight forward. You have to be honest about your skills. Also highlight what are your achievement or even include of your certificates that is relevant to your job. In the end when the company will call for an interview they want to more about yourself and why you are fit for the job.

First impressions lasts. Yes you need to impress them with your awards and achievements and with all your experiences. However, an effective resume for me is not a multiple pages resume that contains all your bragging rights but a concise yet contains enough information to make you get the job you are applying for. Sometimes putting too much information in your resume can be misleading and give them confusion about the job you want.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I believe on that. When you are in the job interview you should show them your achievements from your previews jobs but not in a boastful manner. Be proud of it and relate it to your applying job.

Put everything on your resumes, like all your work experience and your educational attainment, so that you can attract the employer to hire you.

That is right. But you should be honest to what you put in there. Resume should be clean and precise. Remember it is your tool of selling your self to them. It should be presentable as you are.

The best tips for the experienced job hunters. Put your work experiences that is related to the job you are applying for. Putting all your work experiences would only make you look indecisive on career path and that is a losing point. Another point to remember is a best resumes is a concise one page showing your basic info, work experiences and highlight skills that are work related. Add a few colors to make a creative effect but not too much that it would look like an art project.

I think when you start trying to make a resume convincing, you're gonna have problems. A resume should be honest and attention-grabbing. It should elt an employer know your work history, your talents and how reliable you can be. That's enough to convince them to hire you.

Writing a resume could be direct to the point and very well detailed. You should also honest to what you write in there. To have a attractive resume I would suggest to put it all in one page only. The job interviewer will lost their interest if your resume has more pages.

I used to work as a recruiter before and I must say that what we look for in a resume are those that are simple, short but full of information. We do not really like reading long sentences of what the applicant is doing in their previous/ current job. As much as possible, we want a resume that with just one look, we can easily see the skills, jobs and achievements they have. This is of course aside from their personal information. Save the long explanations for the interview.

My professor who took psychology and used to work in HR department told us to make our resume precise and concise and limit it to one page only because they hate long resumes.
Do not write everything so that when they call you for interview you will have a lot to say.

I think that it's better to emphasize more on your strengths and skills rather than your educational attainment. An employer will be looking for things that you are capable of doing, and your alma mater may not matter along the process. Also, do make sure to be as HONEST as you can as interview people can smell lying people right under their noses because they have been doing it for a long time.

I think that a convincing resume is relative. It depends on which company you are writing for. I think you need to research the company and if possible talk to some of its employees.Read the job description carefully and find out what kind of candidate they are looking for to fill a particular position. It is impossible to write a convincing CV otherwise, it is common for human resource people to keep changing their goal posts. I'm afraid that this is one area you can't predict. It is purely luck.

First off, you have to put in all the facts that you know could be your greatest asset. Only facts because we don't know, the interviewer might ask some questions about it and they would know if you are telling the truth or not. Also, create an eye catching objective as it will show how much really wanted that job. Lastly, put in your skills, personal informations, seminars attended and job experiences, it will help you to go to the next stage.

Hi there again! (it's not the first time I read your threads)

To make an ideally perfect resume you're required to first of all, have a good grammar. But what's also important is the quality of the text. You gotta describe everything perfectly, and try not to over do it. It's gotta be brief and plain.

But then again, some people for some reason decline resumes of housewives, no matter how good the resume is. Happened in our family once.

Writing a resume is the most important weapon that a job seeker can use. In order to write a convincing resume you first need to know what position you are applying for. Having a deeper understanding of the position you want to get, you need to focus your resume highlighting the skills that are essential for that field of work. Avoid putting unnecessary information about yourself in your resume that isn't at all related to the job you're applying for.

I think that to have a convincing resume we need to have a good first impression on our resume, make it more attractive to look and having some great contents with regards to our employment, experiences and most especially on the skills that we have and can contribute to the organization or company that we are applying for. We need to have our resume be brief and precise so that employers would easily noticed and finished evaluating it.

Resume is your first impression to what company you want to be in. So you must impress them from the very start. Let's start about the font size and choice of font. Simplier is the better. You should put your name with bigger font with the others. You must also attach a very clean and updated picture of you. Then put your skills followed by your achievements and seminar attended then educational attainment because that is what company is looking first before they call you. Your last part will be you personal information because they don't care about it unless there is a height or weight requirements. Then here you go, they will surely call you after seeing your impressive resume.
