Content Generation Idea: Industry Publications & Competitor Sites
When in comes to coming up with
content generation ideas, whether for your own site or blog or for article marketing campaigns etc,
your own competitors can be utilised for this! And after reading this, you'll see your competitors not as a hindrance to you, but more as help! Since you can often turn to your competitors websites and blogs and find a wealth of content ideas from them!
And all that it really takes is simply checking out your competitors websites and blogs and looking through their posts. Look at the ones that have the most engagement, views and comments etc as these will often be on the subjects and topics that are the most popular within your niche industry. From these you can come up with new content ideas. You could cover what they have covered only in a bigger and better. A way that covers it in more detail and has more parts added to it they failed to add. That way you can create some truly killer content!
Now I would presume that you already know who and what most of your competitor sites are! But if you need to know, well you can simply search your targeted keywords or keywords that relate to your industry. Then just visit those other sites, navigate to their blog sections and check them out! Use a notepad or excel file or something or even bookmark those blog posts you find so you can return to them later on when you're ready to make new content from their content.
Check The Comments Too!
Okay so since these are blog posts you are checking out for content generating ideas, the chances are they will have some comments on them as well. Well not only can you gleam more content ideas from these comments by seeing what kinds of questions they're asking or points they're making. But most times the blog owners are very busy and don't have the time to reply to all comments and forget about some. You can go in and answer these unanswered questions yourself. You'll need to provide an expert answer if you want it to stick and it might not always get approved. Especially if you're placing a link to a competing site. It depends on the site and the owner but some comments will get approved and stick and that means you get a link as well as a potential life long client and more from the other people that see it too so it's worth doing as it should only take 5 to 10 minutes to write a good reply to their question.
Steps to perform

Conclusion
It's free to check out your competitors sites and blogs and they should be one of the first things you do check out for this purpose. And not only can it help to come up with ideas for content but also for content ideas on content that you should most want to cover in your niche. Not only for content but also because it may help your site with a link and some free advertising of your site by a competing site too!
