Do you pay attention to spelling & grammar?

This is a question aimed at users that post to relax and those that post to get paid. Do you pay attention to your spelling and grammar? I'm asking because I have noticed that a lot of people posting online have posts that are sometimes unreadable. It's like they don't proofread and just post the moment they stop typing. Do you do this? Or do you pay more attention when you are being paid for the posts that you make?

I am not really a grammar police but I am strict when it comes to my grammar. That is the reason for my jubilation when I found out that word processors have the speller check for at least it will minimize the mistakes of the manuscript. With the grammar check that is a feature of Microsoft Word, it is also one big help in writing a clean article that is bereft of grammar mistakes. However the grammar checker still needs at lot of improvement.

I realized some of the mistakes I make are made by the spelling checkers. I want to write make and the spelling checker corrects me and writes lake. Since am fast I think it is ok when I do not see any reds on my checker. I post only to realize many typos. The checker also seems to ignore some mistakes.

Has happened to me too. Also, besides the fact that spelling checkers tend to change the words, there is also the people that completely trust in those tools. So, they just feel confident all their writings are great corrected because they used something like Grammarly, and they don't even check it by themselves, and honestly that can be completely the opposite.

Sometimes we can't rely the spelling checker as sometimes this will lead us to a lot of mistakes. I think microsoft word has a lot of improvement than of those days but yeah microsoft word can also help but not always reliable.

Yea it happens to me most time since my keyboard is in English language and I sometimes make use of my local pidgin will typing, the auto correct has become so confused that it makes my work messy sometime and I will post without noticing until I get notified to correct it later.

I realized some of the mistakes I make are made by the spelling checkers.

Homonyms will pass the spell checker but the words could be wrongly used, causing you some embarrassment. I'd disable auto-correct in any word processor to avoid making embarrassing mistakes like the last time spell checker thought I wanted complement instead of compliment. Noticed that just after I'd hit send on my email. Since then auto correct on any spell checker is disabled.

Grammar checker is really helpful. It minimizes our strain when it comes to proofreading our work. However, it's still a must to actually go through what we've written. There are things that only writers can detect.

Such as proper word use and language.

Manual checking of our work is also very important. It still adds to us posting our words effectively. I think all good writers can try to install a good grammar checker.

Yes, I'm conscious about my grammar and spelling but not overly conscious. Sometimes mistakes can't be avoided more so when I'm in hurry to finish a not so important content. But for important articles which I'll be paid a good sum, I'm careful not to commit grammar and spelling mistakes. In such cases I use 2 to 3 different online grammar and spelling checkers just to be sure that it's free from any errors.

Some writers hate the grammar checker because all those green lines can be rather distracting, forcing you to edit your writing as you go. That is why I prefer writing my draft on Wordpad and then paste in a grammar checker afterwards because I'm one of those people who hate editing while I'm still writing something.

To avoid alot of grammatical blunder and spelling errors I have installed free Grammarly software to help solve this problem. I try to proofread my post before hitting the reply button. Posting unreadable materials doesn't make much sense.

I like to pay attention to typos and grammar. It happens at times that I could miss a typo here, or a punctuation mark there. I often do well to proofread the things I write on here, and not just here. I like to be thorough. It's important that when you write, you write properly. To do this, you must write within the rules of the language you are writing in and do so diligently.

However, we all know perfection is a far fetched trait for humans. I must confess there are moments when I either read through too fast, or fail to do so. I do know that it's bad practice and I do well to avoid doing it.

I do not proofread my writing. I press the publish button as fast as I finish typing. My work is full of typos and mistakes. I should employ a proofreader to do the work for me

The same with me, well, I usually have typographical errors because I type too fast. Thus, I proofread and see to it that I don't miss a punctuation mark or the proper spelling of a word. Though I am using a Google keyboard, I still am not confident with the autocorrect feature of it.

I play in this league of not proofreading my work. This is a bad habit but I developed it in school. Once I finish typing I submit my work despite the typos. One person told me my article was bad. I agreed. When I read through it, I could not believe it was me who wrote it. It was full of errors.

I am not perfect. I make mistakes, but I always see to it that I have written the correct spelling and have followed the grammar rules when writing. It's hard, I must say, but, in order to improve as a writer, I must be patient with my mistakes and correct them always.

Same here. Is not like I'm the grammar fairy, but I try do my best with it. Also, based on the fact that English is not my native language, I think I'm doing a good job so far. The main reason why people is doing more grammar mistakes, is the lacking on reading. You ask around, and a huge percentage of people say that reading is boring, or they can't even remember which one was the last book they read.

I think its better to pay attention to spelling and grammar. It will make us better writers. Readers will learn how careful you are in writing if you do it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Well, in fact some readers usually tend to trust writers to fix their grammar and spelling. So, when you write something, you have a big responsibility to show your education, by using a proper language, and exposing a correct use of punctuation, grammar, and spelling.

I do! I know I don't have perfect grammar and spelling but I aim to minimize it, after all, writing is my craft. Writing is my passion and I want to enhance it. That is why before I publish I always read it, again and again. I even use Grammarly to help me with my mistakes. Grammarly is a huge help for me.

I actually pay attention to what I write. So I'm careful when it comes to grammar. I can't say I'm perfect in that regard. But I certainly don't just write whatever and post right away. It helps to read first what you wrote before sharing it.

I do pay attention to spelling and grammar but I don’t think my grammar is perfect by any means! Even as a native English speaker there are times where I make grammatical mistakes.

Thankfully these days there are a myriad of tools to use to help with spelling and grammar to make your writing a better product overall.

Yes. Nowadays, a lot of tools are available to make use of like Grammarly. This is the one I use. I also download applications that help with grammar, they are available in google play store. I also read books about grammar. I want to enhance my writing.

I think sometimes I’m in a rush so I’m a bit careless. However I don’t think spelling and grammar make work unreadable. You can always tell a typo and put the comment into context.
Unreadable work is normally a result of how someone expresses themselves. For example if English is not your first language and you think in another language and you translate it into English the way you express yourself is a bit different and sometimes does not make sense.
I would encourage anyone who does this to continue to work towards improvement. Don’t be shamed into quitting because English is not your first language. Knowing two languages is actually a big plus for you.

Yes that's true. Practice makes perfect. Also when you make it a habit to write and speak English, your English proficiency will improve. It is also one way to learn especially to those who does not speak English in the first place.

Yes, I do pay attention with spelling in every sentences that I made. This is a part of a good sentence. It is good to apply what we have learned in school. There are times that I misspelled or I don't know the spelling of a word but with the help of spelling checker I am able to correct it. I am conscious about the spelling because this will influence other reader especially the kids. They might think it is the right spelling of a certain word. Educating starts within ourselves.

Honestly when I am posting in forums or not getting paid, I don’t really proof read what I wrote. But when I do write for a job, I am more critical of my grammar and spelling. It is important to have correct grammar and spelling. Though I don’t always proof read my post on forum, I always make sure that at least it is readable.

I sometimes forget to check the spelling and grammars when posting here so I sometimes type my comments on Microsoft word and then copy paste it on the forum. Using Microsoft word could help you check if there are wrong spelling or grammars in your sentences.

They reason why people don't seem to make sense is probably because English isn't their native language. They probably want to join in on the conversations and there's a possibility they're using a translator. We should take this into consideration. But as for your question, yes I do pay attention to (and check ) my grammar and spelling.

Even if you are not able to see or notice it, the person you passed it to such as a teacher for example can be able to see what is wrong and what should be done for it to be fixed and rightfully corrected.

I can relate. It's really hard to constantly worry about your spelling and grammar. A good advice for writers is to simply let go. Drafts are supposed to be flawed. This is where you can let loose to explore all your wonderful ideas.

Some people are actually careless writers in the sense that they don't really care about how their writing is with spelling, grammar and punctuation. Once they are able to get paid with their writing in whatever manner it is, they would not care. Even when there are writing tools like grammarly for them to use and improve their writing, they still don't care.

I do pay attention to grammar and spelling. I am not the grammar police, though, and I don't mind mistakes that look accidental. After all, I myself make mistakes sometimes, too. When you read something, it is easy to identify if it's carelessly written when there are too many mistakes. A bad sentence or paragraph can already create so much impact to me, as when I read one, I usually don't take it seriously anymore. Especially on books and other platforms where information is crucial, I think it is very important to have the sentences are proofread and edited well.

Writing is basically putting your thoughts out there for the world to read, and you can think of it like putting on clothes when going out. If you want to stand out or if you want to make an impression, then you have to present yourself well.

Absolutely! I always pay attention to spelling and grammar and it is really matter to me. These are the elements of a quality writing.

Remember that in communication, whether written or verbal, message is relayed with correct spelling and grammar so that you can express yourself and people will understand your message.

I believe that a person with poor grammar and spelling can form a negative impressions on others but with good grammar usage and spelling can be sign of intelligence and being educated. Thus, you will gain credibility from using the correct spelling and grammar.

Checking your grammar had never been this easy since we have grammar checker online. I personally tend to rely on these sites whenever I do research. But in some forums, I think that my personal knowledge is good enough. After all I try to share from my own personal experience and I do not feel the need to sound too academic. But I am strict with my spelling on the least. After all you would see that red underline for your misspelled word.

Yes I do but not the point where I'm paranoid about it but sure I'm conscious whether my grammar is right or when it comes to spelling I just type it in google and google automatically suggest the right word, so I've got no problems in spelling, what I'm currently working on is my grammar, that's something I feel that needs to be improved.

I think it depends if you are doing it professionally or by just leisure. At times, I don't care about the grammar as long as I am able to send what message I am trying to say but when I have to write for something that is very important and requires formal writing then that is the time I become aware and careful with the grammar. I still check the grammar if I'm writing for leisure but not as much as formal writing.

I am not good about grammars and proper use of words in a sentence if that was correct or somebody couldn't understand what I just typed. I am also not good into spelling and sometimes I need to search from google for the right one but I usually read my work twice if it was just easy to understand.

Yes, I'm very strict when it comes to spelling and grammar. We are writers so I think we should have a higher standard when it comes to these two. As for myself, I would always double check my writings to ensure the quality of my work or if I have overlooked some things. "Spelling checker" makes my life easier. I can easily recognize if I have mistakes in my spelling and I can immediately change it.

I'm asking because I have noticed that a lot of people posting online have posts that are sometimes unreadable. It's like they don't proofread and just post the moment they stop typing. Do you do this? Or do you pay more attention when you are being paid for the posts that you make?

I always do my best to pay attention to both spelling and grammar whenever I am writing anything. Thing though is what may pass as grammatically wrong in one genre may not be wrong in another. So there is always that distinction especially when I write fiction.

That said, I'll always proofread something before submitting but occasionally there'll be a mistake or two. We're all human after all and can't therefore be perfect all the time even if you try your best.

Guilty of sometimes not being able to check my forum posting for grammar or typo errors. I would only realize that I made an error when someone replied to my comment and I was able to read what I posted.

If I am doing article writing jobs, I make sure that I check all areas of my writing.

I rely mostly on the red line for spelling when writingusing a computer. I find that I've actually relied on this feature too much as
I get mental block when writing physically sometimes just for the spelling. For
the grammar, I use the trick of "If it sounds wrong, it's wrong
grammar."

I'm always very careful when I post anything online I try to make my post as readable as possible. Without people being able to read one's write up then the message one intended to pass is lost. Writing is one thing but editing is the most important.
