One of my favorite Christmas song is, "Wish you a merry Christmas". This song never gets old in my ears even when I have listened to it a thousand times.

It's such a lively and lovely song we use to celebrate the Christmas season.

Too common that it is some form of a cliche especially during this kind of season.

Yeah. It can be a cliche. But that's okay. What matters most is that we enjoy the songs we're listening to. My only dislike about it is when it's sung by people who are tone deaf and off key.

I do agree that "I wish you a Merry Christmas is a Christmas Song made for all audiences to understand, with its repetitive greeting and catchy chorus and upbeat tone . This song is a favorite of a lot of people both young and old.

Hahahaha. Yeeeah this can be a real turn off which is why it is always pleasant to hear it over the radio or from a choir that has rehearsed well. When you are doing it with family or friends for fun it is better with or without a great key.

I like it too. It's usually the simple songs that make us really happy. Everyone knows how to sing this. I'm not sure about the lyrics since most of us only know the first few lines in the beginning.

But it's a short song. So hearing it in its entirety will refresh our memories of the complete lyrics.

Actually it's not a short song when sung in full. People just think that it's short because if the repetitive first stanza.
Here's the full song.

We wish you a Merry ChristmasWe wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy new yearGood tidings we bring to you and your kin
Good tidings for Christmas
And a happy new yearOh, bring us a figgy pudding
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding
And a cup of good cheerWe won't go until we get some
We won't go until we get some
We won't go until we get some
So bring some out hereWe wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy new yearWe wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy new yearWe wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy new year

Well for me the Christmas song that have the best lyrics is the song "Ang Star ng Pasko" an ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID. This TV station always produce heartwarming Christmas station ID and it was one of their best. It's lyrics focus on Jesus, the reason of the season. The reason why we celebrate Christmas. I was amazed when I heard this Tagalog Christmas song sang by the Israeli students. It gives me goosebumps.

I grew up with the traditional Christmas songs in our country and also the songs played on radio by American singers. Maybe I like the foreign Christmas songs and my favorite is Someday At Christmas because of the message that it brings about worldwide peace. I know that it is just a dream but it's still nice to hear worldwide peace that somehow can be achieved if we start within us. John Lennon's Happy Christmas, War is Over, comes next in my list of favorites.

My favorite would be "All I want for Christmas" by Mariah Carrey. The lines "I don't want a lot for Christmas There is just one thing I need I don't care about the presents Underneath the Christmas tree" it says we don't need presents or fancy gifts the only thing I need personally is in this coming Christmas is the person I truly care for. "Cause all I want for Christmas is you!!!"

For secular music - "Christmas Song" and "White Christmas" lead the top of almost everybody's list.
For religious music, "O Holy Night" and "Oh Come Oh Come, Emanuel".
Another song with beautiful words is "Let Ther Be Peace on Earth".

The best lyrics on a Christmas song for me is Mary's Boy Child because of these lines...

Hark, now hear the angels sing,
A new king born today,
And man will live forever more,
Because of Christmas day.
I think it just sums up what Christmas is really about. The birth of Jesus, the gift of God.

There's one song I hear over and over during Christmas time, "Mary's Boy Child Jesus Christ Was Born on Christmas Day."

The lyrics are beautiful and I particularly like this one, "and men will live forevermore because of Christmas day."

Though it's only partly true -the statement quoted above - it is a beautiful song nonetheless.

I think that this also depends on what you are looking for in a Christmas song. What does Christmas mean to you? Is it celebration? Joy?Rest? Family time. Is this just a holiday or a celebration of the life of Christ? There are so many Christmas songs nowadays from religious to those with the general christmas spirit that are not necessarily about Jesus. Artists like SIA and destiny's child have songs out about Christmas. My best Christmas song is Mariah Carey o holy night. The lyrics remind me that it is Jesus birthday.

There have been a lot of Yuletide songs that gives special meaning in our hearts. These reminds us of our childhood memory especially during this Christmas season. Few of my favorites are My ideal of a Perfect Christmas and Christmas in our Hearts by Jose Mari Chan. I love the simple message of the song. I love the melody and soft tone voice of the singer. I also love Chestnut Roasting on an Open Fire. I love the story telling song style of Nat King Cole. I feel the emotion of the song. I also love the rendition of Holy Night by Mariah Carey.

It's really difficult to pick one christmas song over all the others. I find that the songs all have great appeal depending on the person, or persons doing the singing. I could go for Oh Holy Night though, as it is one of the great Christmas songs. I look forward to listening to the choir perform it come Christmas eve.

Winter Wonderland is another good Christmas Song which quickly became a classic.
Heres the lyrics.

Sleigh bells ring, are you listeningIn the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight
We're happy tonight
Walking in a winter wonderlandGone away is the bluebird
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song
As we go along
Walking in a winter wonderlandIn the meadow we can build a snowman
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say, Are you married?
We'll say, No man
But you can do the job
When you're in townLater on, we'll conspire
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid
The plans that we've made
Walking in a winter wonderlandIn the meadow we can build a snowman
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman
Until the other kids knock him downWhen it snows, ain't it thrilling
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way
Walking in a winter wonderland

"O holy night" in my opinion also has good Christmas song lyrics. It provides information on why we are celebrating Christmas. Below is a copy of its lyrics:

O holy night the stars are brightly shiningIt is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worthA thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels' voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine o night
O night divineA thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear…

I would still choose Silent Night. Its lyrics and music are very calming and soothing. I could imagine snow falling from the windowpane and a mother trying to make her baby fall asleep. It is very beautiful scene and makes me relax. Here are some of the lyrics:

Silent Night
by Destiny's Child

Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin, Mother, Mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
